    Thanks for the video, will do a few training sessions to get better as I approach A-league (only started last week). An odd question, how do I best get the platinum medal on the Old Cairo track that needs me to cross at 1250km or more but my power level is below 400? Have tried Asera with emphasis on top speed, but do I need to focus on a thrust and stability build because of the tight left before the finish straight? Cheers!

      @@samuelpearsall8624 hi mate.. glad you found redout 2 and hope to hear from you again 🤣 The platinum medal is different from the bonus Trophy.. for the platinum you just got to be really fast and it basically does nothing .. so I guess we're talking bout the Trophy... theres 2 trophys im b League Cairo that require you to finish at 1250 but i guess you mean the Time trial one ua-cam.com/video/s3o6-hA-r0s/v-deo.htmlsi=RFLwwLAWTM3T2SNO Its in this part of my let's play .. race starts at 4:30 i think but you will gind all timestamps in the video description..sadly my controller overlay is fked at this episode but i basically just strapped the ibv1 propulsor on the asera and a bit durability with some steering and was surprised how easy it was ... Thing is you need some speed when you exit the turn so i start boosting im the turn but you can see for yourself - by the way whenever you struggle with a Trophy I can recommend this spreadsheet that hydroglox made for my let's play which i will add to the video description of every episode on my let's play ...       @ this info is awesome thanks mate! Once I finish work I’ll have to give the bonus trophy another go, amazing that you used a sim wheel for Redout 2. Currently using a pro controller with the paddles on the back for both boosts. The Excel spreadsheet is a brilliant resource, thanks for sharing this!

    🎉 Congratulations of completing the recording of the Redout 2 career, including the DLC for the Summer and Winter pack! Probably would have seemed incredibly daunting back in June; still things turn out to be even more work than we first imagined. 1:32 The aggravation regarding the drop in recording quality is understandable but at least the entire career (including DLC packs) is available now. Often YT compression wreaks havoc on the quality of content anyway (and for comparison have a look at review footage for the Switch version of the game). My point is that some of the content might not be as “pretty” as you had hoped due to conspiring circumstances but the information for those who want some help with playing the game is all there (at the very least it establishes that some of the early performance targets aren't quite as unreasonable as they may initially seem). Great job!

      @@loolfactorie the steering part mostly but the boosting mechanics are vastly different ... But a few quick tips .. Upgrade your ship (the 4 internal ship upgrades .. kinda hard to find ingame) For the power ups i always use the turbo boost .. On the passive power up its harder to decide .. usually i go with AP (Augmented Propeller) on a tight windy track its MS (Magnetic stabilizers) but mostly on speed events and time trials and you can always check builds there for "inspiration".. Last but not least on a asera or koen. I sometimes use OET (Overcharged energy turbine) just for fun .. With these tips on hand you should be able to get gold everywhere 🙃 platinum is another story cause they tend to be on the rough side in Ro1 .. and Pure races are always a wee bit harder ... PS my one and only personal favourite setup is Lunare with AP and the Turboboost ... works wonders fir newcomers 😉

    Considering the investment it takes to “git gud”, I think “Redout 2 is a tribute to classic *arcade racing* games” sets entirely the wrong expectations for newcomers.

      @@tairach6373 In this particular video I found the drop in frame rate particularly noticeable-not that it diminishes the actual content (imo; it still conveys what is necessary to achieve these kind of lap times). I'm far more tolerant to drop in resolution; it's only the last 80 hrs that I've used a PS5, spent 4 times that on PS4 Pro. So unless it interferes with me evaluating the driving/piloting, I wouldn't notice. Look for the “Wipeout Pure - 10 - Sagarmatha” video (from 2009-01-25) to see what I'm willing to tolerate.

    I like to consider myself fairly decent at AG racers in general, but watching you pilot and really push this ship is just awesome. I’m still at the point that I’m psyched that I can cross the finish going 700+mph. The speed you can achieve is staggering. The off track sections really mess with me.

    13:17 The Tartarus Mines (16:05.794)/Genesis (18:37.794)/Terror Rupes (?15:00?) endurance triplet make perfect sense as a theme given that Terror Rupes is essentially a hybrid of Tartarus Mines and Genesis. 17:23 If Tartarus Mines is the proverbial “Hell” then Terror Rupes is “Hell, Frozen Over” (not universally too hot but always too cold or too hot). Similarly Tartarus Mines is an acquired taste so it shouldn't be too surprising that Terror Rupes isn't an immediate favourite. You can't just drive Terror Rupes-you have to *know* it. In this case appreciation only comes with familiarity.

And unlike the other two that one can't regenerate during any one event. 41:42 “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”- in terms of Redout 2, if you have to think about it, you've already lost; reacting just isn't fast enough. 54:20 Congratulations! Interesting T-shirt. I'm so tired at times but i desperately want to keep up with my schedule 🤣 Next point XD 41 cant see the number XD ... yeaaa and with the wheel you sometimes got to relearn some jumps.. ahti spiral jump was a manace to relearn ...       Bro shut uuuup 🤣 you're way better than me... 🎉 But just in case you're not kidding ..to the question.. trick jumps ... wherever, whenever .. I'd love to elaborate some time in discord if you really want to but in short.. Never boost in the direction you do not want to go ... Always boost into the direction you want to go ... Keep your inertia in mind , you dont change direction mid air you just add new forces , because "turning" your momentum is what stability does and "no track no stability"... Aaand wherever you can and it feels right .. try to change direction with strafing... most effective movement device in air .. Last but not least... git gud my friend ... git gud ❤ Edit: .. if you watch that particular jump you can see my strafe work kicking in to bring me down and to the right the moment my right side faces the track

Though perhaps detached from the track to be replaced by Tomasson at 32:00 with 661m. 35:01 Zhang goes from 6.36Km to 3.86Km. A 2.5Km leap forward (again)? Yeah, right. Hopefully that's just the distance heuristic having trouble with multiple possible paths. Still would be preferable to have an optimistic distance heuristic that jumps to a greater distance once shorter paths are pruned off. Seems this one is often assuming the longest path until the opponent chooses a known skill cut (which a non-player opponent has some likelihood of taking).

As I mentioned in part 50, I was pulling my hairs out trying to reliably detach at the Tantalus skill cut because simply pitching up as indicated in “Class A Trials-Detach” doesn't always work as it does for the final cut (3:18) of the track.

    I see the break in r2 gets more use than in r1. I could think of only a few occasions where the break has been useful in r1, where I don t lose a lot of speed as opposed to just hitting the wall

      @@DorianBlackberg jup definitely, since wallgrinding is punishing as hell and the break increases steeringspeed and heat dissipation.. breaks get a lot more use .. Since the controls are also snappier breaking is also more satisfying 😅

      @@tairach6373 aaa, I had no idea it worked like that, they never mention that steering reduces speed, or that breaks increase steering speed. They don't even have a pop up for breaking. A better tutorial than the first one, but still missing a lot of info.

I'm not entirely shure about the steering increase.. I know that it tells you that breaking increases heat dissipation but I'm not sure about the steering ... the game would benefit from that

    Such a blast to watch :) 9:38: on this right turn, the ship slows way down, yet you never release the thrust, and you don't pitch up either. How do you explain it? Sure, you are counter-strafing, and I guess we could say the slope upward + horizontal pitch might account for some slowdown, but the actual slowdown seems more intense.

I think the sloped turn plays a part in it but I'm 90% sure its the magic of stability.. or in this case, lack of .. you can compare with the double loop on Qasr Al-Nile in episode 1 ...       @@tairach6373 an easy fix for the pipes would be to make them wider. Gives you more time to respond to the curving of the space and also slows down the disorientation because of the reduced curvature on the contact area with the ship.

    Btw, for the split second you take your hand off the wheel to activate hyper, don't you essentially lose control over right strafe,? cause your hand can't be on that back button anymore. So if you are in a corner, while needing to stafe right and at the same time activate hyper, how does that not hinder you?

      One is heavily incentivized towards a healthy lead otherwise incidents like the one in part 24 at 21m28s happen during a low resource moment. The “insane lead” is a reflection of how much “skill through practice” is part of the game-skilling-up is an aspect that the game heavily rewards (and doesn't constrain beyond the design of the tracks). Depending on skill level, on some races, one can be just as easily feel trapped permanently in 6th place-in which case it is important to focus on the finishing time improvements rather than being demoralized by “6th place again”. To some degree this is even true later on as your finishing position is often more a reflection a particular draw of opponents and their match to the race's builds. While skilling-up Zhang, Songg, Ibrahìm, Ívarsdóttir and Giovannelli can still hassle you plenty provided they happen to land on a suitable build.

    Something you didn't touch on is how many times I see top players use pitching in order to brake. But this is an awesome video, it really shows how difficult it is to take all these elements into consideration, and there's almost a checklist to be done here, and then you can focus on one element at a time until they become second nature.

    This might be hands down the best let's play of this game on yt, top quality gameplay and presentation. only thing is i would like for the controller to be front screen somehow, smaller and between the resource bars and the ship. but there is no way for it to be visible and not eat up a bit of the ship. i find myself watching some sections multiple times to see the inputs and then to see how the ship reacts to those inputs, because you can't watch both at the same time. redoutberg's uncertainty principle :)) pinpointing the specific timing of said inputs is thus impossible. but hey, that is no fault of your own, it's a compromise either way. keep it up.

Boss races don't have qualifications (to refresh track memo) so you have to warm up on the first lap (at least on Mount Fuji one lap is less than 4 minutes, not almost 7 minutes like on Genesis). 13:04 When did you lap Rodriguez, for him to come up behind you? There is no reason on Mount Fuji for opponents to de/respawn. Seems Terror Rupes should appeal to you due to the inherent difficulty of being essentially a Genesis and Tartarus Mines hybrid. 1:13 z. K.: Wasserstoff und flüssiger Sauerstoff 1:26 (n.b.: “you” as any RO2 pilot in training) In general it makes sense to cater to your current level of skill in races-especially when you are farming stars. It's time attacks and speed events where you have to accept a higher level of risk *and* improve your skill. For example there was a time where I split the stacked hyperboost on the (forward) final mega jump on Genesis (Cain's Flats & Neumann's Outpost) on races because I still wasn't that great at “piloting” a stacked hyperboost on non-straight track and much less unconstrained flight. The time attacks and speed event have a much lower time investment and greater return potential; if you need to get better at races, practice on the related time attacks and speed events (if you are still collecting stars) or go outright into arcade training via the garage to get better at the track with your current build were you can practice tricky sections with infinite rewinds. 2:11 You should definitely skip; me, I'm just not there yet. 2:34 Getting good at that jump reaps incredible rewards; the blistering speed you get when you get it just right is ludicrous (Spaceballs reference). 2:53 For you this isn't a race, it's “the fox and the hounds”; you are the fox and they are the (ineffective) hounds. 4:22 Apples and oranges. The Qasr Al-Nile multi-jump is easy to skip because downwards single G makes sense. The multi-G sideways gravity make Voyager's multi-jump intimidating, especially if you mess up your hull and cooling reserves; most of the Origin Black Hole jumps require careful resource planning, at least initially, until sheer repetition makes the optimal boost rhythm second nature. 6:08 My choice: AKT for Cloud Ocean, Genesis and even Neo Tokyo, HEL for Mariana Trench or any track with sufficient (under) water sections and SUL for everything else. 6:15 I will often sacrifice stability for thrust (or perhaps durability). What happened to Nguyen (5th) and Ívarsdóttir (6th)? Were they busy respawning in fear when you passed? 25:29 Fully expected you to switch craft at this point. 32:11 Zhang and Ibrahìm are really off their game on this one, leaving leading the hounds to poor Giovannelli. Less than optimal build assignments perhaps? 37:28 Cut yourself some slack. Communicating in a language that's not the one you're thinking in will divert much needed attention from piloting an AG racing craft which requires full concentration at all times (particularly in SRRL). 39:36 … OK that explains it. Giovannelli was hogging the HEL 1119 and Mermand the CNQ 1082. Zhang and Ibrahìm typically do better when they get one of those (it's a toss up with the LUN 1099). 40:14 For me Mariana Trench needed the most preparation to get the short term track memo down, even more so than Tartarus Mines. 40:19 Surprisingly Genesis was even more difficult than Origin Event Horizon. It can be won within ~21 minutes but after the first 2 Boss laps mistakes happen all too easily. In other news, after doing a PS4 to PS5 transfer I discovered that I spent 450 hours since March getting the Redout (2) Champion (complete the career) PS4 trophy and unlocking all the Summer and Winter League events. But just like the trophies, the saves are separate so I'll have to go through the PS5 career again to collect all the custom loadout components. So far B league and first half of the A league module events haven't actually been boring; it's kind of refreshing in the face of the build performance constraints to focus entirely on improving based on driving rather than hanging on by the skin of my teeth by taking every possible risk (and failing); i.e. this run through is a lot more enjoyable compared to initially (and repeatedly) incompetently banging around the track. Also enjoying using ESA again given that I don't have access to AKT, SUL and HEL yet. CNQ makes me pine for SUL.
