I just picked a 1990 Gl1500 130000 original owner, I absolutely love it. Had a 1200 but can never go back. Awesome bike

bought a 91 with 20k miles.....not even broken in by wing standards.

I have an '83 Wing GL1100 Aspencade. It's a beautiful bike with almost 80,000 on the clock. It sat for years (allegedly 10) in a field. I got it up and running again with a little elbow grease, everything works, even the air suspension! It has great power and a pretty decent ride. I don't think I'll ever give it up. I agree that the classic Wings are STILL relevant.😮

Gold Wing. the first, last & only two words any touring rider(s) needs to know. It's been said before that the Wing is the Gold standard of luxury touring motorcycles. Well done presentation and could not disagree with you that the GL1500 like all generations of Gold Wings has an undeniable presence!

I've got my father's 88 gl1500 and it has a broken starter idler gear.. haven't had it checked out yet but is that an engine-out procedure?

I got mine through a challenge I saw on you tube. Go Find one, they are out there and you will see you can get one for what you can afford. LOL The price was shown what he got his for and it was a funny one, but it ran and it still runs to this day and I see on the chanel all the time. OK so my thought was to beat him. I only looked for about a week! No joke , I went to see it and I was shocked. I even brought my wife so she could talk me out of it and she was shocked as well. The challenge as I inturpreted it HA! was that he got his for for 1.50 a CC. he was sayng it was 1500CC GL1500 but really, it;s 1520 CC. 100 HP. My 1999 GL1500 I got for under 1.00 a CC. it had 75,000 miles on it. i got three helmets ( i dont use used helmets really but still, I sold them all plus, my head is too big for reg helmets.) a Big fat manual in perfect shape, 5 oil filters and a pair of new gloves. fresh oil change and since I paid cash he sloped it down for taxes. the bummer was I didn't check the tires and they were from 2009. LOl but still new tires are awesome. I have been fixing it up looks wise a little here and there but really every time I go out to do something new to it I end up going for a ride about 20 minutes in. LOl so it;s dirty still really. oh yeah, I got a load of casset tapes that I would not trade for a 100 dollar bill. I just got a new rear fader harness set up and I am fixing to bump the system up and Kuryakyn switch blade highway pegs, it had the markland heel toe shift and floor boards which I hated at first and wanted to change out but I got used to them with this monster and I love them now. i got the additional pivot shift kit USA made one not the fake one and it;s like a dream. Makes the idaho mountains like a play ground now. woooo hooo! In spartan red. :0)

This seems like small thing but if you use a stretching cargo net (around $20.) over top of a tarp (trailer like yours or pick up either one) it won't shred..loved this video. Thanks for sharing!

Bro i need a parts list. Im in the exact same situation I recently acquired my dad‘s bike. It had set for 12 years now. I don’t care so much about how it looks on the outside. I just want it to be mechanically sound and run like a top. PLEASE HELP ME!

There are hundreds of reviews on these, and they all say "it's amazing." But there aren't many engineering focused reviews, that talk about the engine characteristics, or the gear ratios? Are the 1st and 5th gear ratios way too low---like on the 5th generation GL1800? It would be helpful to talk about the engineering details, if you get the time to do so. You're one of the most careful and articulate owners I've come across, so I'd love to see your analysis on the engineering of the motorcycle.

6:00. The caliper problem is why you should not let a mechanic fix your motorcycle. Unless you know the mechanic personally. When you bring a motorcycle to a shop, you have no idea who is doing the repairs. I was working on fancy, expensive motorcycles, when I was 18 years old, in the back of a massive motorcycle dealership. I wouldn't have ruined anyone's bike without saying something, but you just never know who you're dealing with. Interview the mechanic, and make sure that you know exactly who is working on your bike, because it's not something you can risk to chance. P.S. UA-cam shows you how to do every single repair, with step by step video tutorials, for free. Consider just buying a few more tools and doing the repair yourself, because then you know it's safe---you can put red thread locker on the bolts, copper anti-seize compound on the spark plugs, and torque everything precisely.

Everyone is buying a Goldwing now. A sign of the higher frequency shift by Humanity I guess. But I am deeply concerned about the gear ratios. I'm having a really difficult time finding the "next motorcycle" to buy, because almost every Japanese motorcycle is geared too low. The GL1800 and FJR1300 are both too low. How is the final drive on the GL1500? Is it geared way too low for high speed cruising on the Interstate? My freeway is 80mph standard speed. Is the GL1500 screaming down the highway at this speed?

Carbs are better than efi

Nice to see a raw ride on the Rs660 from adventure perspective. To answer the thumbnail, yes dad's can. More than that, I started doing track days at 44 on 400cc. now ridden litre bikes, 600 and currently own the RS660. It's the perfect mix of power-to-weight. needs clips-ons, rear sets and ECU flash to get it full potential on track.

I picked up a 96 Goldwing a few years ago. It had 45,000 miles on it at the time. Mostly because it had sat for the last decade. I did the same as you, replaced all the fluids, tires, timing belts. I did not do any carburetor work other than running a lot of tanks of fuel with carb cleaner added. After hearing about the factory 0-60 times in your video I realized I do need to rebuild the carbs. After riding it I can see why the Honda sells a lot of them. I love my Wing.

I inherited a '96 Goldwing trike and now I know why bleeding the back breaks hasn't been working. Can you describe the sequence for bleeding the rear/front linked system please? And where can I find the service manual you reference? Thank you for this video.

Congratulations for the good work, I bought a 1988 mod with 17k miles, I bought it in January 2024. In 2 months we put 4500 miles on it

I traded my 92 GL1500 for a 2009 GL1800. No regrets but I would prefer having had both in the garage.

You have to remember that Petrol (Gasoline) goes off over time, and gums up the jets in the carbs. If, like your Father, it has been sat for a long time, those carbs are going to need a clean out.

All that With all that plastic fairing in the way, it looks too difficult and involved to maintain. Parts wear out, and you have to replace them. I know, I'm always replacing any one of these... it's so much stuff, I have to do it in a rolling kind of way spread out over time.... and never all at the same time. Brake shoes, brake fluid, oil, tires, tubes, batteries, fork oil, drive shaft oil, fork seals, antifreeze, carb kit, bolts that fall off, parts that break. A well designed motorcycle is one that is a system, designed to be easily maintained, not just highly reliable. What are you going to do when the day comes you have to replace the valves, top end head, and rings on that bike? I always look at a bike like I'm going to have to work on it next week, something deep and painful to get at. Do I really want to do it. If it's too painful, then pass. If it looks like a cinch and easy, then you've caught my interest as a bike.

I don't understand why Honda doesn't locate the carbuerator where it's easy to get at it and remove it to service it.

My dad purchased his 1996 in 2000 and since 2000 he’s put about 20,000 miles on it and it’s sat a lot of its life On thanksgiving I expressed the passion I have for the wing It currently sits in my back yard coverd just waiting for me to get my endorsement! It’s blue and I’ve never rode a bike before but it balances so well!!!

My 1995 worked great right up when until the starter quit. Then the local Honda shop told me they didn't work on bikes "older than 20 years"...apparently they didn't have anyone trained on a 1500 anymore...{!-{P

That RS660 actually makes more power than your GS 850. Try it out of commute mode and above 6k rpm next time, I think you'll find it a bit more exciting.

I think the 1500’s are the absolute ugliest of all of the wings. The 1100s and 1200s look retro cool. The 1500s look like the old Astro van.

Great video! I’ve done a bunch of left for dead motorcycle rehabs including an old Yamaha Vmax that had been sitting mostly uncovered behind a deceased friends nieces house in NC for 15 years. A lot of elbow grease, tires, battery, brake lines etc and about $2500 got it back to almost its original shape. Carburetors are the biggest PIA! 😂👍

I have a 1993 red and a 97SE green, loving them, and you are right, 1500 is still very relevant today. I used to own the sixth generation 2019 GL1800, I still like the 1500 better, especially how little I have to spend on a mint condition one. I feel sorry for some of my friends who pay upwards of 20-30k for a new Harley, Victory, etc, with less amenities. Thank you for the video 👍

My fav generation of the wing. Funny I didn't realize that they were this popular until recently. We had 2 wings in the past with few more different types of touring bikes. Everybody in my family don't ride anymore haven't for years. I still have one of our bikes sitting inside my garage and will get it back on the road. 1979 suzuki gs850 touring. I really would love a GL1500 SE but prob won't happen. Sorry for long msg. Be safe and loven your GL.

You can buy a late 80s to late 90s Goldie for $1500 and people who don't know bikes think you are on a $20,000 bike and in many ways, you are. So much bike for the money and quite ahead of its time. They still look very modern in today's world.
