How to Install the Panther 72mm Heavy Duty Cyclonic Inlet Kit PART 2
Interesting how you started out with £500. I started my round 9 months ago with 20k and its been the worst thing I've ever done. After 7 months I had only 90 customers after spending thousands having 90,000 leaflets printed and delivered and knocking exactly 470 doors. I then had to get rid of 30 customers due to either constant non payments or not leaving gates unlocked for access even though I always text them the evening before to remind them. Out of those 90 customers I was only able to get one on direct debit. So I'm now down to 60 customers after 9 months and some are now asking can they leave having their windows done until the new year or can they skip this month etc.. Due to the sheer amount of window cleaner's in my area the prices are very poor. Most are doing 4/5 bedroom detached houses with conservatory for only £15 and these are 500k properties. It's very hard to pick up new customers as most people who want a window cleaner already have one. The jobs you pick up tend to be awkward in some ways and are the one's other window cleaners don't want. Believe me it's not always easy to start up a round. It very much depends on the area. If an area is flooded then its going to be very difficult and you won't be able to charge much and you certainly won't have compact work which is essential for a good hourly rate. Had one customer yesterday come running out as I started cleaning the front windows saying I don't want them cleaning as my grandchildren are here 🤣 I text one customer at 6pm yesterday reminding her that her windows were down for being cleaned in the morning and she said it's too little notice 🤣 Just now I've text a customer to remind her that her windows are down for cleaning in the morning and she said they're still perfectly clean from last time and to leave it until the new year 🤣 They're not interested in maintaining clean windows, they just want someone to clean their windows when they are filthy like once every 6 / 12 months. Tried explaining that they are regular maintenance cleans but to no avail.
I feel your pain sometimes. I think maybe I was quite lucky when I started and also having another job helped because it didn’t matter how much I earn window cleaning. I’ll do a video on marketing at some point. Have you tried Facebook groups because they were good for me at the beginning?
@yourcleanerwindows6969 It's the one thing I haven't tried. To be honest I'm not sure I'd want hundreds of customers if prices are so low. There's no way am I scrubbing windows for 40 minutes on a big 5 bedroom detached house with conservatory for £15 which many are doing it for. I have one job that I charge £25 for that's got 29 windows and a huge conservatory and takes me a full hour. Her previous window cleaner only charged £15! I did 9 x £10.00 jobs the other day and because the work wasn't at all compact it took 5 hours which is £18 per hour 🤣
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 Just been looking at local Facebook groups and all state no advertising.
Nice honest informative video matt, curious question how do you handle semi detached properties flat roof garage no other side rear access do you climb over garage with Wfp kit or politely turn the job down / clean front only. Do the job charge extra for inconvenience.
Hi thanks for the question. I won’t climb over any roof or fence. At the quoting stage I mention about access. Most will leave the garage unlocked for me and as I text all the cleans the evening before they know to leave it open. If they don’t want to do that then I might do front only. Yes I always charge a bit more for inconvenience. I have some where you have to walk down a long path for either the front or the back and I charge them more because it takes longer.
Are you using the gutter vac without any filters? Pretty sure you’re supposed to use them.
No I was using the foam filter on this job because it was a bit damp. I use the hepa filter when it’s dry. I’ve never ran the vacuum without the correct filter.
Do you always use TFR to clean fascias and soffits? I find the water alone to be sufficiently effective in most cases.
I use it 90% of the time. It does make the job quicker than just water and also gives the gutters a nice shine after. I have a few customers that have them cleaned often even when they aren’t that dirty and I don’t use it on those jobs. Thanks for the comment.
Top bloke to lend you the money to get you started. Good Information in video, thanks
👍 I’ll be forever grateful to him for doing that. With him I wouldn’t be where I am today. He always say how proud he is of what I’ve done.
Great video mate. On a side note now you have your new gutter vac do you think as a first gutter vac I would be happy with the GVS Panther? Only really concentrating on residential at the moment for the gutter stuff. Do you think I should spend the extra for one of the more powerful units or would it be a waste for a basic gutter cleaning service? I like the versatility of being able to use a small generator but worry about lack of power. Cheers in advance for any advice mate 👍
Hi. Thanks for asking. The Panther is a great gutter vacuum especially for residential properties. Mine is the 1400w and I have had it 4 years and it’s been great. The new ones are 1700w so a little bit more power. You can run them off a small generator which is ideal and you can carry them through a property if necessary. I only got a larger one because I was getting some large jobs where the small one would be slower. I’m finding now that to get a generator for the larger vacuums you need to buy one that is quite big and heavy and it isn’t going to fit very well in the van. If I’m only doing residential then I just grab the little Panther. Also you can keep the smaller vacuum in the van for the times when you get asked to clear and gutter and you have time to do the job there and then.
@ Thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciate your advice. I think I’ll go for the Panther now and add a larger vac in time as you have done. Best of both worlds. 👍
@Glassandstoneexteriorcleaning G Force systems do a gutter vac the same as the Panther don’t know how the price compares but I think they are good. They also have a defector to protect the filter which I think the Panther is missing. gforcesystems.co.uk/shop/category/gutter-cleaning/
Love hearing how people got started and then grew their businesses! Well done 👏 Are you happy to keep going as you are or is there anyth8ng you’re looking to change up in future?
Thought about growing to more vans but I think actually I’m happy working as I am. I don’t want the stress of employees and I enjoy doing the work outside. Just need to optimise the round as much as I can to make it more efficient and push on towards the VAT threshold but be careful not to go over. That’s a long way off yet anyway.
Great little video mate thanks for sharing your start up story continue with the great work 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you my friend.
Was not boring at all very interesting to be honest and a huge congats you took the plunge and it has worked out. I am thinking of doing it myself but my problem is I have no clue how to price up jobs are anything,I do know a friend he was charged 95 pd just a few weeks ago for the vac job on the guttering he said took the guy 10 mins...some going that if you got 5 a day.
I think if you’re charging that then you should be taking an hour. Don’t want to seam like your ripping off the customer. You could still do 4 or 5 in a day.
Hi Matt great story and what a lovely way to get started from a good friend! Someone who saw you determined to make it work. Look where you are now thats amazing, just goes to show if you want to make it work you will. I remember my first jobs and thinking the same as you. I used to even cry round the back of my van thinking what am i doing wrong.
Yeah I have had a few of those jobs too.
Great video fella! I think we need a van tour always good/nice to see others set ups 😊
Already have them on the channel. One I did 3 months ago and the other about 2 years ago.
@ will have to take a look 👍🏼
I have just subbed mate .. thanks for the video
Thanks, I really appreciate it
Thank you, great clip. I'm literally just about to start out after holding off for last 3 years. So many similarities from your experience. So pleased it's worked out for you. I remember seeing you at the cleaning expo.
Thanks for watching. Yeah go for it, it was the best thing I ever did. Did we speak at the Expo?
What a great video. Very informative and humble with it. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
well done mate
Thank you
Great video
Thanks for watching and commenting
Absolutely love the realism of your videos inspirational
Thank you. 🙏
Now I'm bored window cleaning 😂😂 8 years
Do you only do window cleaning? Could you diversify to make it more interesting.
@yourcleanerwindows6969 yh I do guttering fasia and soffits Conservatory roofs. I've started to buy and sell going to auctions and charity shops
Great to hear your story. I started full time in June 21 with my car and 6 barrels and a Gardiners backpack and slx27. Don't be turning customers away, give them a quote maybe 20% higher than your normal work. If they accept then you can either drop a low paying job or put the price of a low paying job up and if they drop you no problem if they accept price, then up the price on your next lowest priced job. Keep that going and your earnings per hour will increase. It's all about supply and demand, you have the demand but can't supply everyone so increase your prices and if you loose a few you have some space for new customers.
That’s a good point about pricing. I’d never really thought about it like that. I’m doing a price rise in January so will probably lose some of my existing customers.
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 I'm not sure Jan is best time to raise prices as people will be paying for Christmas and it's naff weather. I am planning on doing mine March/April depending on weather as once weather improves new people will be looking for windys so easier to replace any that don't want price rises.
@ched999uk I did April last time and I think I lost 1
nice story mate
Thanks.
I love a story like this Matt well done 👍
👍 Thanks for watching and commenting.
wasnt boring at all bud ... gives hope to others out there , the first conservatory clean made me laugh as i felt the same when i cleaned my first one .
Yeah somehow didn’t with 4 barrels of pure water. It was a glass roof as well.
Nice video mate, some of those houses looked awkward to clean!
Thanks 🙏 we like a challenge.
Good videos mate.
Thank you mate
Nice to see real time cleaning rather than sped up stuff all the time 👍
Thank you.
£20 for that Castle let another mug do it for easily £40+ quid if not more with all that glass.
Yeah totally agree. Some people just want the cheapest price and don’t see the value in the service.
What's it like having the reel at the side door rather than the back can I be a bit awkward with parking?
I find it ok. Sometimes you have to make sure the house is in the correct side for the hose. I find it saves a lot of space in the back.
Nice one Matt 👍 I notice you haven’t got a scrub pad on your pole? Do you not use one at all?
I very rarely use one. If I do need one I stick the alpha tucker scrubber on instead of the brush. I did have a dual gooseneck but found it was always hitting the soffit. What one do you use on the Ova8?
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 interesting I have used a walnut scrub pad and generally leave it on all the time but I might give the alpha tucker a try, I’m about to order some bits from Da-Components 👍
@pbproclean it comes with 10 white pads and I brought some walnut pads extra.
Some nice houses there and some tricky windows. I'm surprised you could reach the velux with a 25ft pole, well done.
I can’t. I get the 35ft out for that and it’s at full stretch and I can’t really see what I’m doing 😂
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 I forgot you have the 35ft pole 🙂 but I agree that sometimes you have to just feel the window.
@ched999uk they aren’t easy to clean. There are some on the back as well. I think you have watched the UA-cam Short of me cleaning the back.
( Do not use that extension lead .) It will not cope with the watt's It will melt the plug into the socket. G.v.s sell the one you need!
Yeah I know they do. I only use it on 2 motors with that extension lead so only 2400w which is well under the extension lead rating of 3120w
To be honest I personally wouldn't do that first job too much hassle. Makes me appreciate all my little three bed Semi detached house.
Yeah I know what you mean. I donut because it’s owned by one of my customers. I clean these rentals, their house and their business premises.
I need to figure out how many put a remote control on the vacuum 😅 Nice vacuum what type of camera system are you running on your pole?
It’s a very cheap action camera. Think it’s called Campak and I use an old IPhone as the display.
@ I just purchased me an action five camera
@ how tall of a tripod do you use?
@@davidstearswindowcleaningr2677 nice
@@davidstearswindowcleaningr2677 it’s on a small clamp in the gooseneck.
That’s a big commercial job, here in my city in California Gutter on a commercial metal building like that size you’re working on the gutter size is about 6 inches wide and about 7inches deep more less . You’re definitely gonna wanna charge more money on your next job measure out the gutters with a measuring wheel and then charge so much per lanyard foot. Not sure what currency you’re using so in dollars we try to charge seven dollars a linear foot. In your country, it looks typically the debris is wet! gutters were in California a lot of times it’s dry. It can be difficult to get out sometimes.
Thanks for the comment and for watching. I did charge per meter but need to increase it if I get asked to do another. The gutters were very big and very wet contents.
Nice job mate 👌🏼💦💦
Thank you. 🙏
That came up very well. Does the TFR you use make the upvc glossy after it's dried? If so what brand do you use? Painted soffits never come up well and stains are a right pain as you can never be sure before you start.
Yeah the TFR always makes it shiny. Another reason why I like using it.
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 Sounds good, what brand is it? Thanks
@ched999uk non caustic gutter wash from GVS
Try this if it’s possible , the hose on the end of your aluminum pole, have it were it just slips on and off, make sure it’s l loose for the sole purpose when you have big debris pull the hose down cutting the air circulation and the rubbish will drop to the ground put a tarp down or or aim it for the bucket. Test out this method
Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
I use a claber female connector (from Gardiners) attached to a small length of microbore with a slick connect fitting on the other end. I plug the claber end into the customer's tap and my wfp connects via a slick connect. Much faster flow of water and it's not using my pure! Makes the job a lot quicker. I also pretreat with synergyclean pro, and then wipe dry with a microfibre like you do
I’ve heard good things about Syneryclean Peo. I’ll have to try it. Good in idea about making up something to fit the customers tap. I’m not that worried about using my pure. I have 500 litres for just me and I’ve never run out.
MAtt that will still look better than what it was, i know what you mean though with the stains and wooden soffits. I think we worry more than we need to sometimes. I always mention about stains that maybe left behind. Keep the videos coming mate 👍
Yeah I’m terrible for worrying. I actually felt worse for not cleaning her windows. I have a gutter clearing day tomorrow so hopefully will be able to film that. Thanks for the support.
Well done getting these videos out consistently, always enjoy them 👍
Thanks mate.
Good video tho Matt
Thank you. 🙏
What chemical do you use ?
TFR gutter wash from Gutter Vacuum Systems.
@ ok thank you I’ll take a look 👍👍
I used to use my karcher to rinse off with extended lance but haven't needed to recently am looking at getting a sniper nozzle for the rinsing of brackets maybe
The sniper nozzle is good. I had a spray nozzle that you screw on a euro thread but it always leaked. I use the sniper nozzle on an old pole and always keep it set up.
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 Same here
Quick to get out and use and keeps the chemicals away from the pure water hoses.
Great job done there. When I clean the gutters Soffits and fascia boards I use a glug of ups50 uPVC cleaner with a dash of ubik 2000 and it just disolves the green and then rinses off with ease. But yes like you some are badly stained
I use the gutter wash from GVS. Seams like a good product.
Interesting that you skipped when you couldn't work. I assume you are so busy you can't 'catch up' over a week or so? Great to pick up new jobs so easily.
Yeah I was debating whether to move the schedule on a couple of days or try and catch up but I like how the months are scheduled at the moment and everyone is used to be being on a certain day of the week. In the end I decide to just skip the cleans as most were monthly anyway. All the customers were quite understanding of the situation. Yeah just so busy I would never catch up. I wonder how many other new customers I’ll get from this guy not turning up.
Nice video mate. With these jobs never ever believe them when they say they're done regularly, because they never are!! And when you work out your quote always add 10% to that figure then that's your quote to give them. Great job with getting it done
Thanks for the advice. I’ll do that next time if I ever decide to do one again.
I have the odd customer that likes the sills wiped down as well Matt. I don’t mind their windows at the end of the day. Nice to pick up work because of that window cleaner not turning up 😅
Strange to buy a round and not turn up at least once. But good for me because each one of these customers has accepted a higher price. Thanks for the comment.
@@yourcleanerwindows6969all I can think they just didn’t want that area of particular houses. Like you say some people just want a regular window cleaner and will happily pay for that. Good indicators of good customers too.
👍
Do you find yourself having to travel further afield for gutter cleaning compared to your regular window round?
Maybe a little bit but if I do I charge them a bit more.
If you could get enough residential gutter work to fill your week all year round would you quit the windows?
I don’t think so. I like the regularity of the windows and I actually enjoy it too.
Pity you don’t tell us exactly what you do as you go. 1. Have you a soap in the tank! Do you use deionised water, what pole do you use. What knapsack do you use ? What brush? How about your technique? Do you only use the brush for everything? I suppose I’m thinking of starting up with no experience and am looking for a very simple and cheap way of starting up . Thanks
Thanks for watching. No soap in the tank, it’s pure water. I have a video explaining how I make it. I use the brush and pole for everything. I have videos showing all the different poles and brushes. Have a watch of them. I started up with a simple portable setup and it cost me £500. I’ll do a video at some point showing how I started.
Did your website help you to build your window round or did you knock doors initially?
I only knocked door for one afternoon. I hated it. Initially most of my work came from local Facebook groups. Website only really works now that it’s been found.
@yourcleanerwindows6969 Do you get plenty of gutter work from your website? Have you gutter work every week?
@chrisa4882 I have gutter work most weeks. I have 1 and a half days this week of gutter work. I use the website to direct potential customers to the price list page. I wouldn’t say it generates work but is still important.
@@yourcleanerwindows6969 I've been building my round by having leaflets delivered. It's a slow expensive process with only one new customer for every 1200 delivered. Like yourself I don't like knocking doors. I have never used Facebook. Do you think Facebook would still be productive today for picking up new customers? Do you just create yourself a business page?
Yeah business page on Facebook. Upload a few pictures. I then joined some local groups. For the different areas I want to work in. Post something like some before and after pictures in the group once a week. I think it’s still a good way to build up customers and it’s free. Leaders is hard to get leads from. Unless you are getting thousands delivered and hitting the areas every quarter.
