Rifle Falls State Park (Colorado) - Awesome Waterfalls, Caves and Hiking
Rifle Falls State Park in Northwest Colorado is home to one of the tallest waterfalls in the state at 70 feet and is the state's tallest triple falls. It also features caves, a campground, some hiking trails and amazing scenery. The park itself is relatively small, but when combining with nearby Rifle Gap State Park, you are in for an awesome day!

Camino de Santiago: Sarria to Portomarin
Переглядів 320Місяць тому
It was another beautiful day in Galicia, Spain. Unfortunately, it was also historically hot, which made this leg of the Camino very difficult. Come enjoy some of the sights and sounds of the famous Camino de Santiago! The hike - We really took our time on this hike. Normally, this can be done in 6 hours or less, but we made several stops along the way. The difficulty was not terribly high as lo...
Camino de Santiago: Triacastela to Samos to Sarria with a tour of the San Julian de Samos Monastery
Переглядів 1172 місяці тому
On a very hot day in Galicia, Spain, two mediocre midwestern American hikers embarked on a stage of the famous Camino de Santiago. We walked approximately 25 kms in 7 hours plus had a 1 hour tour of the amazing Samos monastery. The hike - Normally this hike could be done in far less time. Online, it quotes under 5 hours, but with the heat we chose to really pace ourselves. It definitely became ...
Camino de Santiago hike - stage from O Cebreiro to Triacastela

We had an amazing day hiking a leg of the Camino de Santiago from O Cebreiro to Triacastela. This is mostly a mountainous stage where I believe we hit the high point of the French Way at roughly 1400 meters altitude. Along the way, we saw incredible views with barely any clouds in the sky. The flowers were popping and the animals were having the time of their lives. Join us as we go adventuring...
Vintage Car Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - including a car that ran in the first race!

A great day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Every year, the Speedway hosts groups of sportsmen racers who bring vintage cars to the track to race in a series of races. This is part of the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. I took some video of some cool races, but then the absolute dream at the end showed cars that date back to the very first Indianapolis 500 run on the oval! As a race ...
Eclipse '24 at Cataract Falls, Indiana in the path of Totality

This was an incredible event and the weather cooperated almost perfectly. We went to one of the most popular parks in central Indiana, which happened to be near the middle of the Totality Eclipse line. The scene was perfect. The waterfalls were falling. The people were amazing. The Moon and Sun did the thing! We just had an incredible time. Looking forward to the next time I get to see this onc...
Turkey Run State Park - Ladders Trail - Coldest Day of the Year - Trail 3 Midwest Trail of the Year

This video is definitely not a guide on how to hike the Ladders Trail at Turkey Run. It's about a guy who always wondered what this place looked like if it were encased in ice. A tough day at Turkey Run beats a good day almost anywhere else. This one got very challenging in the canyons with ice buildup everywhere I walked. I didn't want to use any crampons because 1) I'm not sure they are allow...
Finisterre and the Costa da Morte - Exploring the final leg of the Camino de Santiago
Переглядів 9510 місяців тому
Finisterre is where the Romans believed the "End of the World" was located. One could believe it too as the land just stops with a magnificent cliff overlooking the ocean as far as the eye can see. The spot is also the final spot of the famous Camino de Santiago where pilgrims are supposed to light their clothes on fire (actually I don't think they are supposed to do that anymore) in commemorat...

What a cool little town. With a population under 100, this timeless town features a 700 year old bridge, a cool old mill and dam. Let's go on a quick tour of this treasure. Music: 0:00 - Spring Day by Gigi Meroni 3:24 - Convict Waltz by Mr. Fox
Lake Isabelle and Long Lake - Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Colorado - Amazing hike with waterfalls
Переглядів 234Рік тому
A blisteringly cold and windy morning diverted some plans, but plan B at Brainard Lake is still a pretty amazing plan. Hiked to Lake Isabelle and then beyond a bit to a waterfall on the Isabelle Glacier trail. Did not make it up all the way to the Glacier but had some amazing views of the lake and wildflowers of the area. This place is truly something special. Last year, we explored the Jean Lu...

The only thing that really saved us in this one was that the terrain wasn't too bad. We had maybe 1 or 2 uphills that you'd even get your heartrate going. Most of it was on normal hiking dirt, but the last 3 miles was on the side of the road. Still dirt, but we were completely exposed to the sun. If I recall, we took 2 different one-hour breaks in this, plus the monastery tour was a full hour, so the whole thing could be done in quite a bit shorter time. We just spread it out because the heat was really bad.

Thanks for the feedback. Where we were sitting, the winds were actually pretty strong and it drowned out the cars noise. I tried to clean it up, but it didn't sound right. Next time I go, I'll use a better microphone.

    • @markstumpf6531

Yes. You need to get a reservation from the Brainard Lake Recreation Area in order to be allowed in. However, if you don't mind walking an additional 3 miles or so, I believe you can park in a lot outside of the entrance. The reservation fee is $14 for a car and $2 for a general reservation fee. On top of that, you might struggle to get into the Long Lake parking area unless you reserve well in advance because the parking spots are limited and this is a very popular destination. One piece of bad news is that I have a friend who was out there a week ago and said that they are actually already in the process of draining Lake Isabelle for the winter. Timed entry tickets can be found here: www.recreation.gov/timed-entry/10087515 I am actually planning to go back on 9/16 to do the Mitchell Lake trail up to Blue Lake. Mitchell Lake is a slightly easier reservation to get than the Long Lake Parking, I believe.

But I trust my Indiana people! In actuality, I hid them really really well -- she couldn't even find it when I told her where they were. :)

What did you do on the coldest day of the year? Visited a place called the "Ice Box". Lol! I like the credits at the beginning. Nice touch. That ladder section with the icicles was really cool. Then crash at the end! Glad you didnt hurt yourself. That place is insane though. Reminds me of some crazy place you would find in Utah.

I'll be honest -- there were 2 spots where I had to do a rear-end slide down about 2-3 feet because there was no way I was walking on a 45 degree slope with how slick that ice was. Then, the one time I run into someone, I go splat after barely putting a foot down on the ice. I should have given credit to Nike for the jacket, gloves and stuff that kept me warm throughout. When I got back to the car, I realized half my pants legs were completely frozen, but I strangely never really felt seriously cold until the very end when the sun went down.

Enjoyed the video! ... Halfway through my 2021 Camino Frances I hurt one of my feet. I bravely/stupidly slogged on for many days.. But after the climb to O Cebreiro I knew that my hiking days were over. So I walked down from O Cebreiro to Piedrafita and then caught the bus to SdeC. ... Enjoyed the ride! ... Appreciated your shots of that 4-km walk to Piedrafita 'cause ya don't usually see them in Camino videoblogs.

Hey Nick - actually ocean water is one of the few things the Lifestraw cannot filter. So, if you ever find yourself on a rocky coast looking at stringy water that had probably been used liberally by pigeons, do not use the Lifestraw on it. In this case, the better option was probably the water fountain at the church. :)
