What happens when you take a break from podcasting?
Nice. Although why isn't your video uploaded in 4K? That would've given a more accurate demonstration of the visual functionality. Eitherways, great video stranger :) Cheers!
Why studio here doesnt offer audio podcast? im furious. I got enough videos i need some radio type ones and asks for video including. Isnt that insane? Happy new year from Greece plz help
That’s a good price point but the condenser mic picking up background noise would be tough for me. When we record at the church we usually do it in my office that is not sound treated. Great review and I like the new look of the studio!
Awesome review man. I reviewed this mic a couple of weeks ago, and it's now my fav usb only mic I think I have ever used.
Yo! I saw your review! Nice job! I literally just switched out an AT-BP40 mic that I have loved using in favor of this mic tonight. Might not always be the case but for now I think it may be my go-to for a simple set up for one of my podcasts.
@SummitCityStudios thank you for watching man. It aphids make a great travel mic for sure. It's solid, won't have to worry about damage.
Is good for singers?
I bought the Facecam Pro around 10 months ago...with good lighting, the results are excellent...I shoot in a room with large windows, the Hub lets me quickly adjust and SAVE the settings for the day easily...delighted with it.
I've still been quite impressed with mine. In fact, It will be the primary cam for one of my podcasts this year.
I currently don't have a Mic and the K688 keeps showing up as a good low cost quality starter mic. For $71, can't beat the price for a first mic.
Not bad at all for a first mic. It has served me well. And it may have just been replaced in my set up with a new fifine mic I just reviewed, the Profile 3. Its a condenser mic that is running about the same price.
I've been researching getting a mic. I currently don't have one. The K688 keeps showing up as a good , low cost, start up mic. I'll put the SM7B on the wishlist.
The SM7B is a great mic and it took me awhile to pull the trigger and buy one. But there are so many good mics out there right now for much less. I think the most important thing is learning how to get the most out of whatever mic you have before you upgrade to the next best thing.
I love my Vocaster 2. I'm not an audio guy and it got me setup pretty easily.
I can buy this mic in india in same price how can i buy in this price segment 159 $
Hii .. But in India it's priced is 21000₹ In india how can I get this prices
I've been using the Vocaster 1 for about a year. With about 70 DB of clean gain it will drive gain hungry microphones such as the Shure SM7B easily with no inline preamp such as a Fethead or Cloudlifter. I do all processing in post, but for a new podcaster or any podcaster who wants a simple, good quality interface with a bit of DSP, this is a no brainer purchase, especially at this low price.
That's a good word! Another great reason to pick this up while the price is right.
im getting it for christmas
Nice! Would love to know what you think as you start to use it.
I can only get my facecam pro to show 1080p not 2160. I upgraded to the pro for the 4k. any idea?
Not sure on that one. Are you using the Elgato Camera Hub app? There is a preview format option at the bottom of the screen that you can select different resolutions. You can see it at the 2:55 mark in this video. You may have already tried that though. The only other thing it could be (without being able to see your settings anyway) is the usb cable you are using. It needs a USB3 or higher cable to function properly. That's what it comes with so if you are using that cable that might not be it either.
It’s better tha maono pd200x ??
I have not used the Maono mic. Do you have experience with that one? I'd love to know what you think.
This thing is the biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. I've spent days trying to make it look like I'm not either wearing lipstick or green and I just /can't/ do it. Weird flickering film grain effect. It's just awful. I've had better 50 dollar webcams.
I've had those same issues with other webcams which is one reason I liked this one. I didn't have those issues. Out of curiosity, did you use Elgato's Camera Hub app with it. That's where I found the best opportunity to dial in the settings.
@@SummitCityStudios Yup. That's exactly where I've been messing with the settings. High light, low light, front light, back light, natural light, artificial light, nothing works.
@@AlRubyx That's frustrating. I sent another camera back (different brand) because of that. It sounds like it may be a white balance/color temperature issue. If you still have the camera, try turning off the auto white balance and move the color temp slider down to 3500 K. Then slowly move it up from there and see if you can get any better results.
@@AlRubyx Maybe a defective camera then? I've had to deal with that too (not with this one, but another brand) when reviews are all great and the one I get is always out of focus or oversaturated.
I normally don't like webcams, but I do like this one. Did you say how much it was?
Actually don’t think I mentioned the cost in this video. It’s $299 USD. Perhaps a bit expensive for a webcam BUT consider that it’s being compared in this video to a MUCH higher priced mirrorless camera option.
Can you use this with a dj mixer?
what kind of mixer do you have?
I know I’m a little late to the party but if I have an audio only podcast do you recommend I pair clips with some eye-catching but unrelated video? Or no video, only audio?
great question! In this case, I would only pair it with video IF it's related to what you're talking about on the podcast. I wouldn't use just random eye-catching b-roll. A couple things you could do: 1. film short segments of your podcast on your phone and post those as shorts or reels. 2. use AI generated captions and create video clips that feature your podcast logo and the captions displaying dynamically as you are speaking. 3. record separate promo clips to share when your episodes release. “On this week’s podcast my guest is…. who will help you…”
Did you use usb or xlr with the fifine?
For this comparison I used XLR. I did a review of the K688 in another video where you can hear both USB and XLR: ua-cam.com/video/W_l3ahBEwXE/v-deo.htmlsi=8PWkFE6k-JnYc_NC
I try to post an episode and its telling me that it can't but wont say why
I'm not sure on this one because. Anchor.fm has been taken over by Spotify since I made this video. Are you using Spotify now or is it still allowing you to create with Anchor? That may help me answer your question.
There are FAR better interfaces available for under $30! And I use mine on my Fifine k669D, so it's not that I don't like Fifine.
What interface do you use? What other ones under $30 would you recommend? That could be really helpful.
heyy i need an audio interface for my k688 can you please drop some recommendations for me
@@tigerrawrmeow what will you be using it for? streaming? podcasting? recording music? I might have different recommendations for each?
@@SummitCityStudios basically for online meeting calls, discord, valorant. I just want my k688 to sound better with cheap interface like fifine sc1
@@tigerrawrmeow The Focusrite Vocaster One could be a great option for you. It's normally on the higher end of the "budget interfaces" but right now it's on sale for under $60. It has some voice enhancement features along with auto gain controls. Here's my affiliate link if you are interested (I get a small kickback and it supports this channel but doesn't cost you anything additional): amzn.to/3OxBN2N
Is the dji worth it what’s the price range for that ?
I LOVE the DJI mics. I've used them in a variety of settings due to their portability and flexibility of use. I have the first edition of the DJI mics and those are running about 250 (amzn.to/48gb5F7) on amazon. the new version is running around 350 (amzn.to/4dzveqF)
Thank you! Super helpful
Glad to hear it. Are you setting up a channel?
Thank you, that was helpful!
Great information, thank you. Just letting you know your audip volume is low
yeah i didn't get this one quite right. thanks for the feedback. much appreciated!
hi is the ports of the jack 6.35mm?
The spec sheet lists it as a 1/4 inch jack but I believe that's the same as a 6.35 mm jack. guess it depends on where you live. Should be the same size.
Do you think the Fifine SC1 would upgrade the sound quality of Fifine K688?
I haven't paired the two but using the XLR input usually does improve the sound quality over the USB input ever so slightly. However, using the K688 as a USB mic isn't bad. If you wanted to improve the quality you might look into a USB interface that gives you more control with features like a high pass filter and a compressor.
I have done all 3 of these mistakes so many times. And when I double check one I tend to miss something else. I usually talk too much so it’s easy to fix and edit out. I do enjoy a short blooper segment at the end of a video. As far as edit mistakes I had a close call today. I uploaded a video and it was a continuous shot of me talking in my backyard. My dogs were walking around in the background. A few seconds after I uploaded I got scared that maybe they were on camera going to the bathroom or something behind me. 😂 So I watched the video at 2X speed to make sure nothing happened. Thankfully they were just walking around. I started laughing thinking about that video going viral if my dog had been going to the restroom. Great stuff Brian. Thanks!
My biggest mistake was recording 3 videos in a row. After finishing i realised that i got the pressing record out of sync. I had the first video great, however because i had pressed record at the wrong time, i had only recorded myself inbetween takes.
Great points Brian! Building community has been one of my goals for my channel for a long time but I need to better implement social media and other tools to help make that happen. I mostly rely on people leaving comments. That is good but I know there is a greater reach if I develop a strategy. Thanks!
building community has been huge for me. admittedly there are times I'm more intentional about it than others, but a growing community definitely builds momentum.
Wanted to see the hair light, should it be diffused too?
The light I use for my hair light is a godox ES45. It's more of a gaming type light that you might mount behind your monitor but I have it mounted to my ceiling and use the detachable remote control to adjust the brightness. It's ideal for me because it is diffused light already and I can "set it and forget it." What ever you use I would recommend some diffusion. If your key light and fill lights are diffused and your hair light is not, it could cast some pretty funky shadows. Here's a link to the light i'm using: amzn.to/3yTGOi1
How’s the TRS output quality for studio monitors?
Great review. Definitely like the processed XLR best. I’m not great at listening to those details in audio. I can hear it when you mention it and change the settings. It is an area I’m trying to learn and improve. Thanks!
It definitely takes some training to not just hear it but also learn how to tweak it. Sometimes it takes awhile for me to dial in a new mic but once I do, it can set it and forget it.
B sounds so much better. The plosives on A sound compressed and overall the sound is of lesser quality.
It's going to cost a lot less too ;)
To be like someone else you have to be the best. Just like the Olympics being the best is hard. I have realised being myself and being different from everyone else is so much easier. I am now the only one doing what I am doing. Much better being different than like everyone else.
Authenticity is the way to go. Only you can be you!
So much value in this video <3
glad to hear that. are you getting your space set up?
I had not thought of most of these ideas. These are great, wonder if any libraries around here have them set up? I had thought you were going to say 'in your car' or 'in a cupboard' or something. Your ideas are way better than mine. If I didn't have a space at home, these could be options.
You can record in a car. I've even done an episode about that. but I wouldn't recommend it if you can avoid it. ;)
@@SummitCityStudios i would love to see a video on why the car is wrong place to record
@@MorningStarQuest I don't know if it's the WRONG place. just not an ideal place. I'd be happy to make that video though. stay tuned 🚗
We record in our church office which usually works well until a mower goes by or phones start ringing in different offices. The library is a solid spot and I’ve never thought of that. Great info Brian. Thanks!
I had a guest in my home studio today and my dog was not happy about it. Made for a tricky day of recording 🙁
is it better than the Maono PD400X?
I wish I could answer that for you. I have never used the Maono mic. I do know some folks who have had good success with Maono mics but I personally have not tried them. I would love to hear from anyone in the comments who could potentially answer that one.
I started with voice memos in my iPhone, then I got a USB mic (Samson Q2U) and plugged that into my MacBook Pro and recorded into Garage Band, I’ve got Rode Wireless Go 2 microphones that I use with a guest and record video as well both with my iPhone but still playing with that. I’ve got 2 spaces at home where I record. 1 is a bedroom sized home office, the 2nd is my fitness studio/lounge room and a 3rd is not converted yet but is a converted carport all built out into an artist studio. I’m going to repaint, get some rugs and am thinking of doing a multi person podcast so will probably get a Rodecaster Pro 2, plus two new USB/XLR mics (maybe more Samson Q2U’s) plus I need a set of headphones as the ‘producer’ with headphones for my co-host and guest/s. I had a one person podcast but now am collaborating with my new co-host to interview people. We are so excited, but want to get the planning done well so that we know what we’re all about and don’t run out of ideas! I want this podcast to last longer than 3 episodes!
I love the flexibility you have to be able to record in multiple place! Also, the RCP II is a solid choice, but I would suggest picking up a couple XLR mics for it rather than USB or USB/XLR combo mics. You will have more XLR inputs with that board.
Great straightforward deepdive. To the point but at a "what you really need to know" level. Nicely done.
Great points. I’ve heard the avatar idea before but I’ve always struggled doing that. It sounds like it could really be helpful to drill down to who I’m really talking to in my podcast. Thanks!
The avatar idea can feel a little extreme AND also feel a bit like you are limiting your audience. But by being able to focus on that one made up individual, you will likely also speak to an audience that shares some of those same characteristics.
What backlights do you use please. Looking to get some backlights for my videos. Thanks
The backlights are GVM-850Ds. They are mounted from a bar on the ceiling and easily controlled with the GVM app from my phone.
@@SummitCityStudios Thanks 🙂
Hey great video! i want this to play guitar with fx softwares liks biasfx and all Is it good for that purpose like there won't be any issue of latency and audio quality right!?
Great question. I thought the audio quality was up to par for a simple audio podcast and I did not experience any latency. unfortunately I can't speak to the the rest of your question because I have not tested this with anything other than a mic.
Oh wow... that's inexpensive! I wish that was around before I bought my vocaster. Very nice! A two-mic version will be a gold mine. Good to see another video!
It is an intriguing price for a decent piece of equipment. I think your Vocaster suits you well though.
Am learning alot from this channel. Kindly requesting you to donate some of your old equipment. I would like to start a podcast.
Glad this channel has been helpful.
Great video! Thanks for doing this. It has had my curiousity for a while because of the price.
It's a nice little interface. I wouldn't replace the gear you already have though.
Looks like Behringer has some competition! 16 or 24 bit?
16-bit/44.1k-48k Hz
definitely some competition. glad @m4nc1n1 was able to answer your question before I got back to you.
@m4nc1n1 thanks for chiming in on that. I've been away for a bit.
I could hear the mower, I also heard faintly the gardener coughing several times. seems a good mic but I can see you would have to keep the windows shut when the neighbour mows his lawn which I can not accept.
Bro what are you on about😂
Still couldn't hear the mower but should have turned the fan off 🙃
