Wow! I have never seen a live green star-awesome!
Miss you guys!
Whoa, super cool guy!!
Enjoyed your demo, very informative, easy to understand only one complaint. You are so long winded, took forever to get thru this and please don’t take this the wrong way Thank you dear
Excellent video, learned alot, thanks.
Awesome finds and great editing :) That spiny jewelbox is spectacular!
Great video.
I love shelling too but live in Canada. I have some shells from the south shores but only some. However, does too much shelling cause soil erosion.?
Carpenteria state beach had tons of those wavy turban snail shells. 🐚 ❤
THE BEST!!!!
WOW that is amazing!
Great video! I am going to work on my collection ASAP. Thank you so much!
First clam is a folded littleneck, few cal. Cones then a Nuttall’s cockle. Then broken wavy top snail, then festive rock shell. Wavy top Bean clam, folded little neck, California Venus, pac. calico scallop, great shape sunset clam (great find usually fragile and broken) Washington clam. White sand macoma, calico scallop, folded little neck, Washington, clam, calico scallop, broken Lewis’s moon shell, California, jack, knife, clam, horn shell, California cone, great! Gould’s bubble, purple Olivella, dove shell possibly. Calico scallops, recluz’s moon shell, incised tower, Lewis’s moon shell, and great chestnut cowry. Trash pick up is a must. Cheers.
My husband sprayed a gloss coat on some of my bigger shells.Really look beautiful.Thank you for the restoration demo!
You can't get Meuriatic acid in uk , suggestions please ?
What month in your opinion is the best for shelling?
HW ror sure!
Really! I was hoping you would say it’s a milk conch. Now I have to tell my husband he’s right and give him back his dollar! 🤦🏻♀️🤣💵😄
Next time you find too many alphabet cones and want to give some away let me know and we’ll give you our address.😂
Look at that seabiscuit. Its awesome😍😍
Hawk wing if I had to guess
🙏 for participating. Guess my husband is right…
What beach are ypu guys at? Looks like quite a few shells there.
Hi Shannon. We’re at Juno Beach.
Awesome find!!!!
🙏
BEAUTIFUL ❤️
Thank you.
hawk wing!
My husband and I have a friendly wager. So far, my husband is winning. 😅 Thank for your participation.
NEVER pick one of these up, harpoon snails, verry extremely dangerous
Wonderful shell
Thank you.
@@theshellnutsYou're welcome 😊
Go Babies Go! ❤
We are going to South Marco the week of Thanksgiving. I have heard about this low tide spot before. How low was the tide when you were there and how long did you stay there? We would like to know how long we can stay there before the water gets too deep for us to get back. The lowest the tide will be when we are there is .5 feet.
Hi guys! We just got home from Vero Beach and unfortunately I found a deceased baby sea turtle 😢 but my daughter was at the dog beach and found a live baby! Took a photo and helped him get through those rough waves 🌊 they were having!! Take Care Friends! TTFN 👋 ❤
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It’s amazing that your daughter was able to help a live baby sea turtle make its way to the ocean. Every little act of kindness makes a difference. Take care and have a fabulous week.😊
Where did you park in Fort Myers Beach?
Hi Betty. Sorry for the delayed reply! There are small streets near the beach where you can park. It is pay-by-phone parking. I think it was about $5 an hour.
Dont you rinse the shells in water after bleaching?
Yes, of course. We do mention rinsing the shell in water for the large Horse Conch project towards the end of the video. I guess we forgot to mention that during the bleaching section. Thanks for mentioning it. :)
Omg I haven’t found one in such a long long long long time 😊🫶🏽🩷
We were incredibly lucky to stumble upon this sea biscuit. Here’s hoping your sea biscuit luck turns around soon! 🤞😊
Wow, that's awesome. Definitely one of the best shellz I think to find ❤
It really is and we agreed. Thank you tuning in our channel Melissa.
So stoked for you guys, it’s a beauty! Wow, so perfect and whole as well, I’d be screaming with joy too 🐚💖
Hi Maddie! Thank you for sharing your excitement with us. We’re still over the moon about it!
If you are ever able to get to the Bahamas, I went snorkeling at Jaws Beach on New Providence Island (Nassau) and could not believe my eyes at how many sea biscuits there were in the area. There I saw hundreds of dead ones of all sizes. That was the beach that rekindled my love of seashells.
That’s incredible! 😍 Thanks so much for sharing your amazing experience at Jaws Beach in the Bahamas. 🏖️ It sounds like a seashell paradise! 🌴🐚 We can’t wait to visit someday. 🤗 We’re especially happy to hear that you’ve found love for shelling again! 😊
Beautiful 😊
Thank you 😊
@@theshellnuts You're welcome
Hey Chris and Kandie! Lovely early morning adventure for you guys; what a big trip! I also love the early drives... no traffic!! It's pretty amazing to see the effect of the hurricane even after a year. I have been wondering how you and everyone else is doing after the one from a few weeks ago (Idalia)... hope you are all doing alright, and are finding some goodies washed ashore because of it! Mostly, I hope you and your communities are okay. Onto the shells though! Loved the Florida Fighting Conks, your Lettered Olive, a of course, the hinged Spiny Jewel Boxes!! SO NICE!! To me, it looks like there was a lot of shells at Fort Meyers, how wonderful! It definitely wasn't a wasted trip! The favourite for me today was that lovely and dark Apple Murex, wow. Thank you so much for share your shelling adventures :D
Hi Maddie! Thank you as always for all of your feedback. You're the best! Sorry for the delay in responding. We took a little break from online activities to recharge. The recent storms this summer did bring us some great shells on both the east and west coasts of Florida. We have a really good video we're going to post soon about some great shelling days on the southeast coast thanks to those storms. The storms missed our part of Florida so we're okay. Thank you for your concern! Yes, Fort Meyers has a lot of great shells. To be honest, we typically find more shells there than Sanibel. I think Sanibel is worked over pretty hard by shellers every day. We hope you're doing well and keep up all the great work on your video channel. It's tough to keep up with all your great content!
@@theshellnuts Oh my goodness, don't worry about that; I can barely keep on top of my messages too! I can't wait to see what you've found after the storm (I'm so, so glad that the worst of it missed you); you guys always find the best shells while you're out there. Huh, I suppose Sanibel sees a lot of visitors and people looking for shells; it must be hard to be the first one there to find them! I bet it feels pretty good when you beat everyone else to the best ones though :) Thank you for taking the time to reply, and stay safe you two!
What do you do,when you find a shell with a live animal inside?
Good question. We return any live critters and their shells to the water. We do that in many of our videos and try to promote that habit to others. We're only interested empty shells.
Very nice that you ventured to give some love and attention to Sanibel and Ft Myers beaches.. the hinged jewel boxes are spectacular! Thank you for bringing us along.. seeing the progress warms a broken hrart..
Gotta ask why the gloves???? Lol lol
Good question. :) We're getting older and trying to keep the sun spots to a minimum on our hands, so they're simply for sun protection. We prefer slipping these on over wearing sunscreen. They're lightweight and dry very quickly.
Will Be arriving at Vero Beach this Saturday for 2 weeks!! I hope we find tons of beach treasures!! Any advice on good shelling beaches?!?!? TTFN 👋 ❤
Vero Beach is a gorgeous area, but we've yet to hit the beach there. The furthest north we've gone is Walton Rocks Beach which is about 30 minutes south of Vero Beach. We've heard that South Beach Park in Vero Beach can be good for shelling, so you might try that one. Hope you enjoy your vacation!
We went for the weekend last week.Only shells I found were scallops and a lot of tinies for my granddaughter.Shelling in May was better for me on Sanibel.Every day is different. We helped other people shell for awhile.I found 1 fighting conch I dug up in the sand and gave the shell away.Take Care!
So you had about the same luck we did. :) You're absolutely right about every day being different. That's cool you could help some others shell. :) You take care also!
What do you use for the noseeums?
Good question. My wife Kandie is allergic to the bites so she’s tried everything. Nothing works perfectly when they’re thick. The best bet is to stay in the breeze(>10mph) to keep them off you, and breeze typically is stronger mid-day. For bites, Cortizone-10 cooling gel and stay in cool air.
@@theshellnuts I have heard many suggestions but the common theme seems to be what you said and to wear a thick lotion/cream of some sort because they are too little to penetrate through the barrier. I’m allergic also and I am always a mess for a month after we come back to Ohio!
I saw a guy in Sanibel with a full No Eeum suit. It was mesh and some kind of material. Those noseeum are horrible
😊 Was this before Idalia?
This was in early August.
Lovely Spiny Jewel Boxes and my favourite Coquinas. Thank you for sharing your trip.
Thank you for watching and your kind words. Much appreciated. 👍
I’m missing Sanibel so much. 😢
We were too! Thanks for watching!
🐞Where did you go to breakfast? Thanks. 🐞
We were soaking wet and sandy from snorkeling and the dirt parking lot(shower facility not working yet), and Kandie was torn up with noseeum bites, so we were a bit of a mess and decided to stay out of site and hit the McDonald’s drive-thru on the way to Fort Myers Beach. For lunch we hit up a food truck there in FMB.
Jerry’s store has a restaurant for breakfast. We didn’t find a lot open.2 Seashell shops are open and a couple restaurants. We stayed on Fort Meyers but shelled and did some shopping on Sanibel. The surf shops are open also.If you go online will tell you what is open.Their also doing trips out of Captiva Marina 😉
Where is this? Where in California? What beach? I can never find a shell since I’ve been here. I live in Ventura, Ca
Newport Beach in the Orange County area and Del Mar in the north San Diego County area.
At 4:41 the auger type snail you found is a Snakeskin Turrid always reminds me of a chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream cone common name I have heard is Mermaid Tear. The shells you refer to as looking like Coquinas are, like in SWFL, Donax. Here they are Donax gouldii, the common name is known as Gould's beanclam. In SWFL the Coquina is Donax variabilis. The organism attached to the Donax shell here is a hydroid known as Eucheilota bakeri which is a tiny predator related to a jellyfish and have have a symbiotic relationship with each other. You can find them as far north as Pismo Beach down to southern Baja California, Mexico. At low tide when the Donax beds are exposed, is a good place to find sand dollars. My husband and I live in North Coastal San Diego County and sort of are the reverse of you both. We go to SWFL annually in the fall and, until Hurricane Ian, stayed on Sanibel. Since last year we stayed on Marco Island and will be there this year again for most of November. We always laugh when folks ask us why we travel there from SoCal. Yes, we don't go there for the warmth and sunshine 😄 it's all about the shells and fishing. We were divers and actually got married underwater in the Florida keys. Love finding elusive treasures😎
Thank you Victoria for the identification help. Much appreciated! And thanks for watching! :)
We call them sand crabs in California.
Hello Brenda, thanks for letting us know you call them sand crabs in California and for tuning in. We really appreciated! 🙂
