I accedently read sapka (The Hungarian word for hat) instead of sakka💀💀💀
This is why, out of the many faults that Other M has, i never found fault in her dialogue. Of course its going to sound deadpan - you know what she's been through, right? She basically hrew up without anyone she could call "close", and lost everyone that even came close, including losing the only creature resembling a child that she ever had literally right before Other M's timeline.
This is very well done, and I like to see someone point out Samus's humanity. Yes, she is a Chozo-Metroid-Human Hybrid but still Human. She has human fallibilities (trust, empathy) but also the ability to power through objectives like nothing (Humans are amazing machines). I honestly think Samus sees the world in shades of grey. There is good and evil, but she is the balancing point. The Federation and Space Pirates are the opposite sides of the same coin, and she is in the middle. And you never play both sides against the middle. Samus is a Chozo-Metroid-Human but still human. As of right now she in her prime, not only a woman but also as a warrior. Her profession demands the 110% and she can give 110%. Her genetics notwithstanding, Samus will eventually have to slow down. Father time is undefeated, as it is for all of us. And she is in a profession that people die young in. IMHO Samus would a wonderful person to know, to talk to, to have a drink with. Chat about things. And if she ever became a parent, she would be a fantastic one.
what is he cooking up
@@oreomerchant6600 would love to find out
Did you use Ben Drowned music?
I feel bad for Samus she's been through so much and for what just to do it all over again? I know Zelda and Metroid don't exist in the same universe but I remember something in Ocarina of Time when you go to the Shadow Temple a sign reads "here lies Hyrule bloody history of greed and hatred." Samus's story reminds me of what that sign said she lives an endless cycle of greed and hatred because the Space Pirates and the Federation want the exact same thing, Power, and she has to live knowing that, that's why she trusts no one.
BTW love the Analog Horror feeling you gave to the video. 😊
How is your channel so small after two years? The writing, delivery, tone, storytelling, voice inflections, and pauses are incredible. I say this with all honesty, this is the best, highest quality video I have watched on UA-cam.
Samus Aran is my favorite protagonist in video games and there was no reason why this video was so good... Kudos 🫡👏👏👏 See you on the next mission 👍
Huge fan love the music it’s so sad about Samus aran’s legacy 😭
These two videos on Mario Galaxy have been really incredible to me. I respect how well you set yourself apart by analyzing the game for what it means more than what it is. There are probably literally millions of game review videos on UA-cam, and I've watched many of them. But as I've become increasingly conscious of how and where I allocate my time, I've found that many of them are simply...insubstantial. Which is fine I suppose, they're usually well-produced and executed for what they are, but like your comparison to cheap toys vs things with true meaning in the videos, you've managed to attain the status of having created art. These videos are really great and I've enjoyed watching them tremendously. Incredible work delivered very well.

The story book is the reason why Rosalina was s my favorite Mario princess.
im not the kind of person to cry that often, i have been through too much in my life to let myself go. but without fail, every single time i listen to Sad Girl and Luma, i break instantly. there is something in the calm, gentle melody that just snaps me back to my childhood, to when i first read through Rosa's Storybook and truly understood what it meant to be lonely, to find family in the people you meet, and to make a home out of the space you occupy in the world. i could talk about how much i love this game for days on end and still never reach the truth of it. Super Mario Galaxy is and always will be my favorite video game in the world
I’m personally an inbetweener of group 1 and group 2. I prefer the story of galaxy 1 and it was emotionally driven, but group 2 clearly has the more expanded upon gameplay. I thought galaxy 1 had unbelievable gameplay, but then galaxy 2 came and blew the doors off space. It hurts that galaxy 2 has a soulless feel to it, but, since galaxy 1 already delivered on that and I’ve already experienced it, I’m happy to say that galaxy 2 is where you need to go, BJT, only if you’ve fully experienced galaxy 1. Galaxy 2 gameplay is just immensely crafted. Tbh, we shouldn’t even be having galaxy 1 vs 2 battle, we should be seeing galaxy 2ad an expansion and nothing more. To me, galaxy 1 hit with the story, gave us amazing gameplay, but then galaxy 2 came and said “hold my beer”. I stress, do NOT play galaxy 2 if you’ve not experienced galaxy 1. The two go hand in hand as galaxy 2 expands galaxy 1 gameplay. If you play 2 first you will feel like galaxy 1 is missing a gamplay step.
well said!
You are still the best
you're the goat dude, always so glad to see your name pop into my email notifications. hope all is well :)

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I have heard that Yoshiaki Koizumi wrote the entire storybook in one night and surprised the office with it the next morning.

The issue with RE2 is that is a pretty bad remake, largely removing a lot of elements from the original game, not that's it's bad, but I'd prefer a RE1 remake over what they did to RE2 anyday.
very fair. remakes sit in such a difficult middle ground, i just don't see how it's going to be maintainable

@@SakkaSays haha, crazy what you can forget over a year or two right
i wanna point out for the soundtracks i always have loved the buoy base theme
While i love the galaxy, i have to disagree with you on some points. Putting gamers into just two categories doesn't make sense to me. People aren't black & white. Some people enjoy both atmosphere and gameplay or level design. I play some games just because they're fun. Games like monster hunter are my jam for that fun reason alone. And i enjoy the atmosphere in some games like Bloodborne, super mario galaxy, god of war &... The key thing is: a game can easily have both. Bloodborne is extremely atmospheric but it also has great gameplay and level design. You can say the same thing about the super mario galaxy. The controls are beyond excellent in that game even for today's standards & the level design was excellent because it introduced 2 new things to the genre: spherical platforms & gravity focused platforms. Many of these ideas were used in better ways in the next mario games but the super mario galaxy was the pioneer. Super mario galaxy is excellent not because of just its atmosphere and music but because it is the full package. While red dead redemption 2 isn't because it's not a good game. The gameplay and level design in that game are carried by the story and the atmosphere so red dead redemption 2 or the last of us aren't comparable to super mario galaxy because they lack the basics of what a game requires. Another great example is: Celeste. That game also is the full package: Excellent level design, excellent story telling, excellent atmosphere, great soundtrack & ... Sure some games can put emphasis on the gameplay aspects more and forget the story completely because they're games after all. But I can't understand games that devalue gameplay and level design for storytelling while there are far better mediums than video games to do so. Red dead redemption 2 and the last of us could easily be movies or shows and the last of us tv show's success is a proof. They don't need to be video games and in fact, I much rather watch a movie or tv show telling the story without all the bloat that a game like the last of us has.
So I agree with you, but I'd like to clarify something: in the video, when discussing the "groups", I mention that you *can* like both, but it is *undeniable* that everyone has *priorities*. It is just a fact that certain people are more psychologically inclined to search for certain experiences and certain games, because of pre-disposed genetic/cultural variables. A "full package", like you say, is rare, and often the games we love most are full packages, but then, they're only full packages to *us*. For example, The Last of Us 2 is a remarkable game that I love, and I would long have said that it's gameplay was excellent in a way it's predecessors wasn't, with a beautiful story to boot. So yes, it is a "full" package; great gameplay and story, but let's be real: it's gameplay is *still* not as solid as a Breath Of The Wild, because TLOU2 prioritises story, EVEN THOUGH it has *good* gameplay. I am biased in my tolerance of the gameplay, because I love the story, and I cannot control that. For someone who hates the story, the game cannot be a full package, despite its excellent gameplay. In that way, there is no such thing as a full package in my opinion! Every video game maker is biased in what they prioritise by what they love. I adore Red Dead 2, by the way, because it hits the notes I look for, and though it's gameplay is bad from moment to moment, it is so on purpose, because the joy of that game is rooted in immersion, not fantasy. I'd rather not dissect Red Dead 2 in the comments, so let's agree to disagree. Fundamentally, there are no basic requirements for a game, because a game is more than a toy on the TV. In that sense, what a game designer decides is fundamental is based on what they value most. Bias is inherent, and so are individual values, and so a package cannot be full if it lacks in any of the infinite departments. Thus, the best generalisation POSSIBLE to define taste, is (A) intrinsic motivation, or (B) extrinsic motivation. These are the most fundamental design priorities, everything further from that (story, platforming, etc) is a variation on those core principles. That is why I used those pillars, and that's why I stand by them in the context of Galaxy specifically compared to other Super Marios. Anyway, thank you for your comment and criticism, I enjoyed thinking on that necessary clarification, and I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Good stuff dude
I am so glad i watched this... Your perspective is one I adore, thank you. truly remarkable. As a kid around 7 years old I never really paid attention to these details in super mario galaxy. Yeah I went into the library and saw colorful pictures but didn't really absorb the context... Today at 18, I admire and appreciate the storybook's existence. Super Mario Galaxy is really entertaining, the mechanics, the presentation, the level design is muah, Out of this world! But during all that fun you'd start to notice... the atmosphere, the mysteries and lack of context, there's a bigger picture, a story it's trying to reach you. the library... warm and safe. in there waiting patiently for your presence... a story about everything. Her storybook hits me hard emotionally everytime. It was a really special feeling when it first dawned on me. Every reread I swear i notice something new. Today you blew my mind when you mentioned that Rosalina visits her home planet every 100 years which has caused the celebration of the star festival for the inhabitants of her home planet. It's a detail i missed somehow but it feels amazing to know. I love this game so dang much. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I feel the same way I searched the literal title! I think Ubisoft is my favorite dev they consistently make the games that I play the most and I love all their games
I gotta say this video for me was a rollercoaster of emotions. At first I was confused, then laughing, then finally understanding and appreciating. I love London 2012 for the Wii, I started playing in the holidays of 2013 and I spent so much time with it. Played London Party so much and I love everything about this game, the quantity of collectables, the quality of the minigames and the music in general is awesome, its truly a special game. It was the game that properly introduced me to Sonic and his friends btw, the quizzes were hard, I didn't know they have ages for example. About Rio 2016 I gotta say as a Brazilian, the games overall felt disappointing. My country wasn't prepared at all for the Olympics and the fact the games happened after an injustified president impeachment didn't helped at all, but talking about the videogames, the music is alright to me, I specially love the "Carnaval do Rio" theme, it was the best lyrical music regarding Brazil in games since Samba de Amigo that I know, so it was huge for me and other than that the Wii U version is very bland like you said, the 3ds one however is more interesting since the story mode in it takes place in 4 regions of Rio, it feels like the Adventure Mode of Vancouver 2010 but more basic and actually in the host city, it had problems but it felt more realized than Tokyo's one. The biggest problem however is that Sega didn't even bother to translate the 3ds and Wii U games to Brazilian Portuguese, our language, so basically almost no brazilian played the games by official means, it had marketing via a magazine that I own, but in addition to the fact that Nintendo stop supporting Brazil in 2015 and didn't returned until 2020, these games had almost no coverage here. Beyond that yeah, the videogames are worse than London and maybe worse than Tokyo was well. Tokyo is complicated so I will not say much about it, my only gripes is that they removed a lot of features like the custom music, statistics, Mii costumes, have less characters than Rio overall etc, Story mode deserved more than just be a level select with no exploration. There was sure a lot to talk about these videogames but I thank you very much for making such a heavy informed video as this and sometime in the future I will see the Part 2 with the Winter games.
well i guess i have good news because part two exists! it's over on the UA-cam channel SpeedTheWeeb :) thanks for the kind words!
@@SakkaSays You're welcome. I like a lot watching the Olympic Games in real life in addition to the Mario & Sonic games. I hope could give you a bit more info on Rio, since I'm brazilian and all. What you said that London was the most magical (or another word that I forgot) Olympic games, I totally get you, I loved the opening ceremony, with Mr. Bean playing piano, the Olympic Rings being forged and raised to the sky, the Fake Queen and 007 jumping from an helicopter etc, it was incredible. Rio's opening was very simple, that at this moment I don't recall anything amazing and Tokyo's was good only because of the video game music during the countries parade.
Wowie, for someone with such a small audience you spoke wonders. You indeed do have a point in where Galaxy goes above and beyond what most would expect from a Mario game, it's an outlier in the franchise because of that. There may even be a deeper reason as to why Rosalina's Storybook is the main reason Galaxy is as amazing as it is. Storytelling has always been a part of humanity; it's how we share information and what we do with it to explore something far more infinite than any galaxy: our imaginations. Once, there was an idea to depict information through rough drawings on the rocky wall of a cave; once, there was an idea to create words, phrases, and ideas that could be put down on a sheet of paper. Now, ideas are spread around the vast cyberspace (if you catch my drift) of the Internet, but what's most important is that the concept of storytelling has always been important to us, not for any logical reason or pursuit of higher understanding, but to simply create stories of our own and share them with others, and it's when we are given an old-fashioned, but welcoming storybook that we are filled with that sense of nostalgia of when we were read bedtime stories when we were young or told legends or folklore of things we cannot comprehend. That is what makes Rosalina's Storybook so special to us, it's a story of an era long gone but not forgotten. This idea does contradict with the whole basis of the Mario series: funny wahoo man jumps his way to beat the bad turtle and save the princess. As I said before, it's an outlier, but I think it was also a glimpse into what lay beneath the surface of the very basic plot that most other Mario games tend to have. As there tends to be with a lot of fictional characters, there is a lot more to them than meets the eye, and in Mario's case, the story is kept simple mainly because for the most part, it doesn't need to get complex. That said, when it does get complex, it leaves you wondering about things that you would've overlooked without giving it much thought. Take Rosalina's mother's death for example: in the Mario universe, there are literal mushrooms that can prevent "permanent death", and while death in most Mario games just is part of the game experience, in this one instance it feels...out of place. "How could a character in the Mario universe die?" It's just not something you expect from a Mario game, especially in a storybook created to be read to literal star children. Even the ending in Galaxy feels so different compared to any other Mario game, since your conflict with Bowser quite literally brought about the end of the universe, and then all of a sudden, it was like it never happened. Perhaps it's meant to be a final clash of sorts, since most other Mario games don't go to such a scale in their fights with the Koopa King. It's also why Rosalina as a character is one we can appreciate and love so immensely; despite how much tragedy she faced as a young girl and continues to face onwards she continues to care for and understand what it means to have lost something (or in this case, someone) important to us. She also shows that she's not afraid to look back on who she was, returning home once every 100 years to remember what life was like before everything changed for her: simple, care-free, happy. And we can relate to that. Maybe someday, we'll get to see what Rosalina's life was like before Mario's time, and then, just maybe, Rosalina's Storybook will be fully complete. Anyways, really enjoyed listening to this. Keep doing what you do best! (+1 sub)
