Our Nomadic Story
United States
Приєднався 18 бер 2018
We support you living the life you imagined. You can live the life you imagine. We can show you our journey and how we made decisions to live intentionally as nomads.
We are a family telling Our Nomadic Story through sharing our adventures, thoughts, and experiences. We include things we learn, the places we visit, and our experience with items we use on our journey.
We started the full-time pursuit when our youngest son graduated from college in 2018. We had been preparing for years including several trips in rented RVs. Our nomadic family consists of Don, Neva, Charity, and our travel companion (dog) Zoe. We spent 2017 learning in a travel trailer and now have a class A to support our Nomadic life. We call our home base Nano RV Park (#NanoRVPark) since it is effectively a one site RV park. The site includes a concrete pad, RV style power pedestal, water, and sewage hookup.
We are currently in Chapter 1 of our story.

I realised that the fluoride filters are leaking white sediment and the tank has becoming almost crusty white . I had to use vinegar to clear it out , it almost looks like calcar . Do you know why is this happening ? Thank you
Thank you and yes I am new to Berkey but will be using the flouride filters. Reason, questionable manicipwater source plus the health benefits of pure, clean water.
Good vid. Thnks 4 postin!
Just got the Berkey...so nervous to use it...thinking of sending it back 😢
😊how long do the filters last? How many years before you need to replace them. 2:19
There is a Better Berkey hack that eliminates bacteria growth on the carbon filters.
I'm keeping my tank closed simply because I just learned that from you and I knew it having fun like this and I'll be doing it the rest of my life thank you for your channel I will be looking you up quite a lot The learning curve on these things are pretty tough on me.
And you didn’t remove the sticker 😂
Very helpful video-- thank you!
Thank you for these videos! I want to make sure I install and prime correctly. I just received my first Berkey filter. I got the "Big Berkey" which came with 2 of the black filters. I also purchased the Flouride+Arsenic filters. I live in a town which sometimes has water pollution problems, plus I'm interested in avoiding additional toxins that don't get flagged by standard EPA legal requirements. Berkey does not participate in NSF/ANSI-certification, and I haven't seen it mentioned in common consumer report articles, but it seems to me that their published lab results indicate they are high on the effectiveness spectrum, and do filter out some contaminants not handled by other brands. I'm glad to have found your UA-cam videos!
All of these videos use hose or old faucet. Easy. I have a new kitchen faucet, the end is wider and difficult to attach filter/washer. Frustrated.
Thank You for your videos ❤
We use the fluoride filters to remove as much as possible. I have convinced the wife that clean water is critical for health in general. Thanks for the video. My filters were plugging up and had to be primed 2 more times before we could use the Berkey.
How long do they last these filters?
Great to see an explanatory video without distracting and irrelevant background music.
It looks like you put the white filters flush with the wingnut? Is that right?
Why don’t you show what your doing on the inside of the canister? Does the black filter go on the inside and the white screw to it?
What is the water supposed to taste like?
I started to use these filters. I am fairly confident (as can be for a newbie) that I primed them properly as I didn't see any particulates afterwards after running water through them about four times. But man.... I have never experienced such slow filtering. I mean painfully slow. Like it takes all day slow. Is that normal for the white filters to make the process significantly slower? It was never this slow with just the black filters.
Thankyou for a helpful video!
My water tastes bad after installation. It tastes like plastic/ chemicals. The water looks clear. Ideas?
Take off the plastic from the white PF2 filters!!!
thank you for making this video God bless
I’m about to try to do this but I’m a little overwhelmed by it because I live in an apartment and I don’t have a hose and neither of my faucets are like yours. I didn’t expect it to be this complicated and have asked them their return policy.
You’re better help than the berkey channel . Thank you!
Which means if we put just one white filter and we fill’ the Berkey up once a day we can keep the white filter one year , if we put two white filters we can keep the white filters two years ? In the same fact of filling up the Berkey once a day. Right? Thks
Another video from the UK mentioned also cleaning the ouside of the filters with a scouring pad before initial use....
I have no idea if I’m using mine correctly. I also have no idea how much water I use.
Hi, I thank you for your helpful videos. I am using the fluoride filters for the first time. My question is, are we supposed to take the plastic sticker off of the filters- the plastic that says which way the water should flow before installing??
The fluoride filters come with blue caps to keep water from going into the filter, that way you can wash them in soapy water and not get tap water into the filter. You should save those caps and use them every time you wash the filters.
You need to remove those caps to prime the filter 😊
Thank You!
Do you need to do the red-dye test each time you clean and reassemble the Berkey?
Do I remove the plastic off of the filter?
NO! THE BURKEY WHITE FILTER HAS BEEN TESTED TO LEACH OUT ALUMINUM. BERKEY IS APPARENTLY A GRIFT! CHECK OUT PROJECT FARM.... ON UA-cam. SADLY I SPENT THE MONEY ON A BERKEY. 🤬🤬🤬
I was gonna try and use the pf2 filters with my berky. However it’s internal is half alumina balls and half carbon. After flushing both directions with 30-50 gallons of water if you shake the filter then flush again quite a bit of milky white alumina still continues to come out. I have big concerns with alumina coming out in my drinking water. I purchased a digital conductivity meter to check the water after filtering and with the pf2 filters I was getting higher readings then normal tap water. I eventually threw them away. Take your new filters off shake for a few seconds and flush thru it. Nothing but toxin coming out. It’s my understanding aluminum causes Alzheimer’s.
Yes, we use the Fluoride & Arsenic Filter. Thank you for putting up your video explaining the filter installation. I have a spray at the end of our water outlet and what a mess it makes doing this. I love your explanation of going to the bathroom faucet to do this procedure. Love your video, it was very helpful❤
Great tutorial!
Do you have to prime the carbon after cleaning?
where did you get your dish strainer that fits perfectly in the second sink?
hi thanks for the video. did your water come out a milky color when you primed it? I see no mention of it in your video or the Berkey official videos. you did mention particulates coming out.
💛
I have been leaving it opened while hooked to a camp site. I think after this video I will keep it closed from now on.
We had no idea about keeping the grey tank close when not dumping. Since we did not know, we thought we would share the information. Thank you for your comment.
I clean mine not even once a year. My water is perfect. I used the pump to prime my filter as I don't want "dirty" tap water to go inside my filter and contaminate my water and the bottom fountain. So all bacteria are left out and you don't have to worry so much.
That makes a lot of sense. When we first had the Berkey at our house we had a similar experience. With us traveling around the country in our RV the quality of the water is variable. When I made the monthly video we only had a 20 micron filter. This means lots of stuff got to the Berkey. With experiencr we now have three filters from the water source to the faucet we use to fill up the Berkey. The first two filters are on the hose. It is a combo design that has a washable 20 micron filter and a 1 micron carbon filter. This does a lot of the big particle cleaning. This is the water that goes to the fresh water tank or directly to the faucets. On the way we have a 0.5 micron filter to capture more. These changes should increase tge time between cleaning and helps in other parts of our RV water system. Even with filtering to 0.5 microns, we still use tge Berkey for all the other things it's filters. Thank you for your comment.
@@OurNomadicStory Seems like an excellent system! Do you get your water from the wild?
I can't understand the logic in using this priming method, filling the inside of the filter with tap water, when the very thing you want is to filter the existing murk OUT of your water. In doing so, you irreversibly contaminate the inside of your filter, hence the water that will go out of it when you start using the system. I am sure the few people reporting problems with Berkey did it that way, it doesn't make sense as tap water is anything but clean in most parts of the world. Better to use the soaking method, the sucking method, or the manual black rubber pump that Berkey sells as well. I have bought it, it works very fast and with no hassle once you have noticed all elements have a specific direction for a specific use (you can purge your filters as well with it). I bought my system 6 years ago and I am so delighted I did, that I offered one to my son as well.
This is a good question. My thought is I was using a good source of water to prime the filter. The priming runs the water from the less clean to the clean side. If you could store water through that had been filtered by the normal black filters and prime under pressure it would be better than using city water. Since I do not have that ability, a good source with pressure is used. Priming is needed since the size of the filter will not operate correctly when dry since air in the filter. The Black filter has an option to prime via soaking. This option is not available for the Flouride & Arsenic white filter.
@@OurNomadicStory yes that's right. The very first time I installed it I didn't have the pump do I just soaked it vertically in a jar, then installed it, and first it still took forever to filter. But then it worked. Now I have the pump and am not looking back!! 😄 Fluoride filter is another kettle of fish. After my last miserable attempt to prime it I thought I would try from the pump. When it start rejecting clean water from the black filter, I will keep that water and force it through with the pump and using the white join. Not sure if it would be enough pressure but I'll try. It's too bad Berkey doesn't include an adapter for that purpose. Maybe there us a way to design one.
I took the plastic wrap off the flouride filters does this mean I can't use it,?
Do you take the plastic off the filters
Thank you so much
So does he mean change them ever year 🤔
Thank you! Question please.....they are way backordered on the Berkey site. Do you recommend using or not using amazon for the filters if they are on there?
so how does that work if you have two carbon filters and two floride filters isnt it only filtering the water that flows through the white filter what about the water that flows through the black ones
I'm not sure why there can't be priming and installing in one video? the steps aren't that long.....
