Making an Original Chef's Knife with Ryder Knives - Fiets of Strength Ep. 16
I've been wanting to collaborate with my dad on a project for a number of years and it just so happens he's become quite the talented knifemaker. Typically he makes bespoke hunting knives, and some really cool variations on a "bartender's knife". In this video he gives me a great deal of guidance in making my own design of a chef's knife and taking it from sketch to finished cutlery.
In this video you'll see both of us working on this knife together. It was an amazing learning experience for me and I loved going through the knife making process and so much fun to collaborate with my dad.
This knife uses "Nitro V" Stainless and some "garage sale" unknown wood for the handle. I couldn't be more thrilled with the end result.

The ULTIMATE Oldschool Freeride Hardtail Mountain Bike - Fiets of Strength Ep. 15
Переглядів 13 тис.2 роки тому
Today I finish building my dream bike and take it out for a shred session. This is a very weird and very rare slice of the retro freeride hardtail bicycle world from 2003 with some truly unique bike parts on it. Seismic 6" downhill hubs, Twentyfour Cycles Le Toy III aluminum hardtail frame, Arrow racing 24" wheels, and a Marzocchi Bomber Fork. It's wild, REAL wild! Maybe the best urban assault ...

I bought my 2003 dream bike from someone on the internet. Today I get to unbox it and do an initial build-up. This is a weird and rare slice of the retro freeride bicycle world with some very unique bike parts on it. Sure to please the bike nerds in your life. Clearing mountain bike trails with the Orogenesis Collective - - Fiets Of Strength Ep. 13
Переглядів 4632 роки тому
Follow along while I head out on my first ever multi-day trail work party with the Orogenesis Collective (www.bikepackingroots.org/orogenesis.html). I volunteered to help with maintenance on a section of the Klickitat Sisters Trail, just south of Packwood, Washington, and north of the Dark Divide. This is a 2000 year old trail originally used by the Tribes of the Klickitat People to trade with ...
1950s Firestone Special Cruiser to 27.5" Klunker Resto-mod - Fiets Of Strength Ep. 12
Переглядів 54 тис.2 роки тому
Happy Festivus Everyone! In this Episode of Fiets of Strength I take an old, thrashed, 1950s Firestone "Special Cruiser" bicycle frame and make it a 27.5" singlespeed klunker style mountain bike. Some special frame gussets and reinforcements, a modern fork, stem and handlebars, and it's ready to rip. Follow along to see how I do it. Instagram: j_ryde #fietsofstrength www.fietsofs...
Fixed Gear + Cyclocross + Tallbike = Tallbike Tracklocross! - Fiets of Strength Ep. 11
Переглядів 2,7 тис.2 роки тому
Last video I built up this Tall Bike Track Bike, and tried to take it to the velodrome, but ran into a bit of a speedbump... But honestly I wanted this bike to be a tall tracklocross bike all along anyway! So I swap out the wheels and tires for something a bit more suited for off-road riding and seek out some trails. I also add on a front disc brake because stopping is cool too. Here's the vide...
Fixed Gear Tallbike Track Bike - Fiets of Strength, Ep. 10
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
I've been hanging onto this old track frame of mine for YEARS waiting to make a tall track bike out of it. Finally got around to fabricating one and dang it's a fun freakbike. A brakeless fixed gear tallbike track bike, what's not to love? Hopefully this is a solid in-depth take on how I go about framebuilding a tallbike. This is intended for entertainment purposes, but hopefully you pick up so...

Just a quick process video of me assembling my friend's fixed gear bicycle after they got their frame back from powder coat. Assembling my RogueFab Tube Bender - Fiets of Strength, Ep. 8

I picked up this tube bender from Rogue Fab earlier this year and have been getting some questions about it. So I put together an unboxing and assembly video on it. This is not a sponsored video in any way. This is just the bender that I bought and my thoughts on it. Instagram: j_ryde #fietsofstrength www.fietsofstrength.com Music by DJ Tan't. I don't mind if you steal my bicycle, but only this one! - Fiets of Strength Ep. 7, "Tweakbait"
Переглядів 2,3 тис.3 роки тому
This episode is all about building up a bike from old worn out parts. It works great, and gets me around town, but is best suited for those times I need to lock it up in a sketchy place and don't want to risk having one of my nicer bikes stolen. Great for going bar-hopping, or lending to your forgetful friend who's visiting for a few days. This bike has already been stolen from me twice (and I'...
Making a kick scooter out of scrap metal and spare parts - Fiets of Strength, Ep.6
Переглядів 3,9 тис.3 роки тому
Back in the 80's during the heyday of BMX I remember a friend who lived down the street owned a push scooter with 12" wheels. At the time I thought it was so cool, even though I had a BMX bike (which is weird because the BMX was definitely much cooler). Maybe it was because it was so different. Anyway I figured I had enough scrap metal and parts lying around to bang one of these out as a simple...
Finishing my Budget Framebuilding Jig - Fiets of Strength Ep.5
Переглядів 14 тис.3 роки тому
After more than five years I finally put the finishing touches on my budget bicycle framebuilding jig. All-in this cost me about $30, plus so many years of my life avoiding it. Now I can finally get around to building a "real" bicycle frame. Bo-oring! Modifying the CJRB Crag Pocket Cleaver - Fiets of Strength, Ep.4
Переглядів 3,2 тис.3 роки тому
I recently got pretty excited about the "pocket cleaver" style of pocket knives. After picking up the CRKT Pilar and the CJRB Crag, but finding neither were quite what I wanted them to be I decided to modify the crag for what would hopefully be the best of both worlds. Plus I wanted it to be a christmas present for my wife who hates that most knives are just way oversized and dont fit in her po...
Making a Kid's Push Bike from scratch! - Fiets of Strength Ep.3
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 роки тому
This episode I make my very own tiny Push Bike. Well it's not for me, but this year I found out I'm going to be an uncle soon (for the first time!) and wanted to start down the path of being a COOL uncle by making this custom freakbike push bike for the little tike. Watch as I shorten two bicycle forks two separate ways, make custom handlebars, and put a read disc brake onto this sweet fully cu...
Putting big wheels on a tiny kids bike Freakbike build part 2! - Fiets of Strength Ep. 2B
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
Last video I did a walkthrough of how I build my favorite freak bike design ever, and this week I add a rear v-brake and give it a paint job. We also take a quick tangent this week and revisit a trip I took to Tsukuba, Japan to give a freak bike building demonstration. Chopping up a steel bike frame and turning it into some rideable artwork is fun, and a good form of self-expression. Special th...

Adding Disc Brake Tabs to an old Steel MTB Frame - Fiets of Strength - Ep. 1
It's a Scraper bike "My scraper bike My scraper bike"
loved that old school cassete at the beginning!
i wanted one of those back in the day, but got a evil doc instead...
nice. please, SLAM that rear wheel.
thank you for video :D my disc brake old bike ua-cam.com/video/LOhWinkT8ig/v-deo.html
Do tell, what are those cranks?
You sir deserve more subs! Amazing build.
Yoo where’s the ride footage?? This build is amazing. Access via Patreon? I’ll pay
How did the finished bike turned out? any footage on that?
Is that the 170mm super t pro ?
do you had any problem after you converted to disc? i've converted my crossframe but on forums people seems quite mad....
Over sized front shocks on hardtails is trending. Looks good. I like that frame a lot. Same colors I rock + on raw aluminum. Btw you can shim the seatpost its easy enough and holds as usual. Use the plastic kind they have a much firmer hold.
Incredible
I would suggest you replace the drop handlebars with cruiser handle bars. What do you care about being aerodynamic on a tall bike. That drop handle bar position is a torture position. Your neck will thank you.
I would suggest you watch the next video! :) ua-cam.com/video/tp8wgrlUOGM/v-deo.html 😁
I want to do this, any guidance on weld settings?
Brilliant! Bring the adaptor to the frame, not the adaptor to the caliber. Great video and very inspiring!
AWESOME thanks a mill bud
That bike it tight... respect
You need some OG. Brooklyn Machine Works Tenderizer pedals.... the V1 ... not that bullshit redo that they did.....
@@derekneumann I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the "shinburgers" but so far don't have the spare coin to pick up a set... Yet...
@@FietsofStrength the shin burgers are sick... and the original BMW videos of them in Central Park were great!! Sick build!
Got a nasty bomber 66 on a 2008 ironhorse freeride bike, just put an arrow dhx 24 on the rear. Love your videos motivates me to do more urban freeride.
sexy bike <3
That was fun and relaxing to watch!😅😊 Cool build! Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
Very nice tutorial! I followed what you did in this video last night and got an awesome result on the cruiser frame for my klunker build!
I like the way you added extra support to the rear stays, but what about something for the front. That fork was not designed for the extra torque/stopping power of the disc brakes. Around 70% of braking power comes from the front. I hope you're planning for that.
I really wanted one of these back in the day. My freeride HT at the time was a Norco Torrent with a Marzocchi Jr T. I had it set up with 26" front and 24" rear wheels, a .243 Racing bar and stem, a sick Titec Beserker saddle, a Blackspire Ring God, and bunch more freeride goodness.
Meesterlijk!
Good work 👍👍
Dig it!! Funna take two front brake sets+tabs off the 24”&26” hubs and rebuild 20” rims with disc brake hubs, then fab up the tabs like you did!! Thanks for the bracing advice, i admit ignorance there and in much of this cycling stuff. Schlappin together a 20” bmx frame to be all slick’n’sexy and get repainted etcetc 🤙
I have a haro zero werx and done the same , i found a brand new 888 vf , Tho I want to modernize the bike in some ways , An eagle transmission with ns rotary oil slick hubs but damnnn parts are sooo expensive still the bike looks sooo sick and yes turns a lots of heads even if is vintage . This old bikes have an aura and I love them fr :]
Building bikes from a smorgasboard of parts is so satisfying.
I'd smash on that! Impressive 👆
Satisfying
любой переключатель sram будет держать натяжение цепи лучше чем shimano shimano xt с длинной лапой подойдёт разве что для хрупких девочек
I love it. I'm in the process of doing the same to a 2010 scott voltage
Nie ma to jak stare solidne rydwany marzeń one mają dusze nowe są wybrakowane jeszcze bez przedniej przerzutki
Well I guess it's time to put my 888 bomber on the dirt jump. Cool video
Klunkin' ani't easy!! but sure is fun! Nice build!
Bellissima quella cruiser 👍🚲💯
Build your first good wheel..... LIFE CHANGING. You feel like nothing is impossible!
The bottom bracket converters do work great! ❤
Get down, bro! Biz always wants more complex, incompatible with all that came before. Hit the alleys and you can build free good bikes forever. Post-war bikes and the bike boom era are hugely cross compatible. Have fun! ❤
Good video , ditch the shitty background noise though. Painful to listen to
Ashamed to say I have absolutely none of your skills. I had to buy a new State Bicycle Klunker and change out most of the parts to make it what I wanted. Spent too much of my youth riding instead of learning to work with my hands. Regrets.
Hey now, anytime you're working on bikes it's a win. No need to bring a welder into the mix. And besides, I'm the one making up for lost time by doing a ton of riding now that I'm older (because I spent my 20s and 30s messing around in the shop)!
creo que no metece la pena el tiempo para algo tan feo y nada usable
Did you make any follow up videos on this build?
If anybody's doing any clunking remember to put BMX handlebars on not mountain bike you'll do much better that being bent over is for the birds and literally a joke
gotta get a helmet on for riding a beast like this. I love the bike tho I wanna try do something like this with my 05 devinci kicker
I can't find part 2.
Ben jij nederlands/vlaams?? Damn dacht da niemand hier zoon retro freeride hardtail had
This bike was owned by a guy who was from Holland and then brought the bike to the US when he came here for college. I bought it from him!
Brilliant
