SFAS isn't for the faint of heart. Although your prep should mostly entail reasonable, progressive training that doesn't leave you completely thrashed, periodically implementing a brutal, mentally challenging 'gut check' can be a great prelude for the inevitable 'suck' you'll have to embrace at selection. Many candidates take these workouts overboard, but when approached with precision, they ca...

How bad does alcohol affect gains? Lifting super hard 6 days a week and eating enough but drink 4-6~ beers per night. Any major issues?
But its better to just do them right?
Do a video on Combat Dive School
What is a blue slip? I’m guessing a positive or negative peer evaluation.
Maybe I missed it, but how long did it take to get through all of your medical training? Can 18Ds prescrib medicine?
Quick Question, I know you've mentioned that you were #2 Rank at SFAS, when do they tell you this and what criteria is used to determine this. Also Ive seen all your bench marks on what times and weights (ACFT SCORE,2mile,5mile, run/ruck times,BP,Squat, DL) you recommend prior to selection.. but what are times/benchmarks you would see in the top 10% of preformers at SFAS.
I respectfully disagree. Running, in of itself is already a bunch of high rep single leg strengthening exercises. It doesn’t make sense to pick up weights and do more of the same. Look at any elite long distance runners lifting routine and they all lift heavy. Ex. Jarod Ward (USA Olympic Marathoner) at probably 140lbs deadlifts over 200lbs later into his session. Heavy lifting actually helps one utilize oxygen more efficiently and it works the muscles/body anaerobically which distance runners don’t spend much time doing otherwise.
I think you're just misinterpreting what I said (this is also a clip from a 7-8 min answer to a question). Lifting heavy (for lower reps-aka strength) is EXACTLY what I would recommend for most runners. The 2 points I'm making is past a certain point, getting stronger (alone) won't make you a better runner, and that doing super high rep (inherently light load) lifting won't improve your running-specific muscular endurance (often the opposite due to the higher relative fatigue cost). As a general note, careful using elites to make your points, because although many of them do lift, plenty don't lift AT ALL, yet they're still elite. I 100% think a runner who strength trains is a longer lasting runner (career-wise), but it's not a determining factor in a 1:1 comparison of running ability.
nice! upload is right on time😎
Thanks for the support man, I am just leaving to SFRE today, I will let you know how it goes.
Good luck!
That’s a real lift as well. None of the showoff lifting belt and dry scoop of 400mg caff. He’s getting better and that’s all. Good shit. Real lifter
Currently only able to do a 55lbs suitcase carry for 1.5 min at a time. What should I aim to work up to?
Imagine how strong you’d be if you didn’t run tho. Jkjk. ❤
Insane holy
Thanks man!
Muscle density goin crazy
Very good. Damn
thank you!
Always amazing to see a thin dude put up that kind of weight. Bravo!
Thank you! Built well for deadlifting. You'll never see me sharing my bench press though😂
I deadlifted 405 for two reps the day before my first ultra on April 20th 2024. Running doesn't kill your gains. Just eat more and lift like a maniac
Hell yeah! Love that. My goal is to hit 500+ within 72H of my first 50k in April. Looking forward to it👊
The silver plates are suspect bro!!!!
Yep, I'm always looking for powerlifting/strongman gyms with fake weights so I can make people believe I'm strong while I secretly just stay weak. That's the goal!
Good job twink
I actually prefer women, but I'll take the compliment!👊
What an absolute UNIT in the field
thanks bro!
Strength and gains are different 💪 Why don't you know that??
Just watch some of my full length vids and you'll learn just how uneducated I am. But please, enlighten me!
@terminatortrainingmethod interesting 🤔 are you saying I'm wrong????
@@harveysaunders2479 Just a sarcastic response to your question "why don't you know that??", since nothing about this post (or any of my hundreds of YT vids or thousands of IG vids or hundreds of 60-90 min podcasts) insinuate that strength and muscle gains are exactly the same. So I'm not sure how you'd infer that I didn't know that.
Listening to good metal improves gains significantly

Great form!
thanks!
No body said you can't be strong and be good a running! Keep it up! Looking good and hell yea 👍🏼👌🏽🤘🏼
Thanks man!

jerry cans are 45... 5 gallon water
Yessir👊. Couldn't quite remember the exact load
Just as there is skinny-fat, there is also skinny-strong
Hey now😂! Not a lot of 198lbs individuals running 45-50 miles/week and staying that weight
Bro wha!? 🤯 that’s crazy as f
Appreciate it👊
Are you allowed to use a hook grip for some of the narrower diameter items?
Never been to SFAS but I can't imagine cadre caring about something so trivial as what grip you used to carry stuff. Just do whatever you gotta do to get the stuff from point A to point B without dropping it
@@jnew535 Nailed it
I think it's absolutely worth considering. I didn't know about the hook grip when I went, but as far as I know there are no rules against it. May as well practice it to get those thumbs numb!
That's impressive... I'm twice your size and I don't think I could do that 😂😅
Id rather a powerful heart than powerful any other muscle.
Well u most certainly can have both.
You’re going to blow out your hips. Also why not use the weights for deadlifting
I'm not familiar with how 'blowing out your hips' would work, but thanks fore the tip! I'm also not familiar with the weights for deadlifting that I'm allegedly not using
What do you think of Winne Fitness Solutions (@winnesworld)?
How do we submit questions?
I have a link in my IG bio for more detailed questions. I also do a bi-weekly IG Q&A and typically use those for the episode. (link to IG in the description)
@@terminatortrainingmethod Are you accepting new clients? I reached out a few weeks ago but haven't heard back and was curious.
Where can we submit questions to you?
Awesome possum
An endurance athlete with strength. Nice
Thanks man! Definitely showcasing my best lift. Other lifts are above average but nowhere near my DL.👊
No straps and double overhand? Very impressive!
It's a hook grip, which is very a secure grip, but doesn't require a ton of grip strength. Almost like built-in straps once your thumbs adapt (definitely painful at first). But thank you!
Either way, what's an operator without terminator grips
Places to land nav near Fort Carson?
If we cant run consistently in zone 2, would it be feasible to do inclined walk on treadmill to build that aerobic base until we can run in zone 2?
This can be great in addition to your running, but not in place of it. You'll be able to run sooner if you continue practicing running, even if you have to alternate back and forth between running and walking to stay aerobic.
I was not expecting to hear eat gas station candy to become a rucking monster lmao. Makes sense though.
Hahe, of all options it's not the most optimal, but it's far better than nothing or eating things like clif bars or other real foods that don't digest rapidly (essentially all of them). Running gels/gus/gummies are a bit more effective, but I understand they're less budget friendly so figured I'd offer the savings plan option.
I think these would be easier to watch if there were UA-cam chapters like on the big podcasts. It’s easier to scrub through that way. Not sure how that effects your views though.
The army has a landnav game made by oe games that can help with shooting azimuths and map reading. Its honestly difficult until you can figure it out technologically. But its better than nothing
I feel like we all start out with this mindset and slowly come to understand how batshit silly it is.
Vernon Griffith and DJ Shipley recently put out a video on "athletes vs operators" in which DJ claimed he knew a guy at Devgru who weighed 230 lbs and could sustain 5:00 miles for long distance. Those guys post a lot of great content, but that claim DJ made seems super exaggerated. In your knowledge and experience, is that sort of thing really possible with the right genetics & training?
Love those dudes as well, nothing but respect. I recently met Vernon at a seminar and had a great chat with him (he also had a stellar presentation). Although I've seen some savage bigger runners and a single 5:00 mile at 230 is possible (Alex Viada claimed to have run a ~4:20 at a similar bodyweight - 'claimed' being the key word), it's highly unlikely someone that size could sustain it. It just doesn't add up physiologically. For instance, elite 1/2 marathon times consist of +/- 4:30 mile splits, but these dudes weigh literally ~100 lbs less than 230😂. So my educated guess is that your hunch that this statement is hyperbolic is correct
BTW, the podcasts I mentioned (95, 85) are on audio only. I didn't start posting these episodes to YT till episode 100. 95: open.spotify.com/episode/69Ezzbc6MmD1FfDkNGRyMK?si=3c82f1479b30448f 85: open.spotify.com/episode/5DTCD3MYAoz7k3lfoqhoVD?si=cd77c2faca2d4415
where should a person's fitness be before starting a selection prep program. ex. I'm 6'4 250lbs 12mile ruck 2hr 45mins 2miler 17mins ACFT Score 536
Is there any big difference between training for selection versus Ranger School or Delta? is SFAS programming good enough for the previously stated Army pipelines?
I said it before and ill say it again: currently on Jacked Gazelle 2.0 week 5. Havent felt better, stronger, more mobile, and faster since my early 20’s. 32 meow and Ive lifted and ran (somewhat) for 10+ years. Kevin Smith absolutely knows what hes talking about and his programming is fantastic. Spend the $100 or whatever it costs and your ROI will be worth way more in the end.
took a 1 week break from training on leave to see my family after a hard 4 week block. Eased back into the workouts over this week and hit an ATG squat PR yesterday
Hell yeah. Amazing what happens after some well-earned R&R. Good stuff!
