September 2024 Lipedema Patient Roundtable, Hosted by #LymphaPress
How did Lipedema Patient Roundtable regular attendee Marcia Witt finally get her #LymphaPress Optimal Plus? The September episode “connected the dots” between her desire for a Lympha Press, how she became connected to her local LP representative, how that connection worked with her doctor’s office to ensure proper insurance documentation, and how her device is making life better since receiving it! David DiBacco, the Lympha Press territory manager for her geographic region, was on hand to explain the process and also how Lympha Press helps set up the device in the patient’s home, teaches them how to conduct their first therapy session, and how some of the features - like the wave function on the advanced pump - are particularly helpful for #lipedema patients.
Since September is #PainAwarenessMonth, Linda Anne Kahn shared different tools to help reduce and manage pain, and the panelists shared their favorite modalities. Vibration plates, compression, swimming, movement, massage guns, and more were covered.
A huge topic in the lipedema community is the long-awaited creation of ICD-10 codes. For patients, having a code signals a sense of validation, that “what we have is real.” Dr. Karen Herbst joined to discuss her work to spearhead getting the codes established and how the audience can most effectively submit their comments for consideration. Interested parties should e-mail nchsicd10cm@cdc.gov by the October 10th deadline.
Dr. Herbst also covered the impact of #GLP1 medications on lipedema, the difference between #lymphedema and lipedema, and how patients can arrange appointments with her practice.
You could hear in Cara Cruz’s voice the aftereffects of recent surgery to address her adenoids/tonsils. Though still recovering, she is now able to sleep through the night when before, apnea would cause her to stop breathing. In another “connecting the dots” moment, Dr. Herbst discussed and explained the correlation between the lymphatic system and her condition. Questions surrounding #menopause were also answered in this information-packed hour.
As always, the evening ended with powerful words of encouragement for the audience from anchor panelists and guests:
- Jenny Beaujean (@jenny_beaujean)
- Siouxie Boshoff (@lipedema.living)
- Angelique Charles (@TheLippyButterfly)
- Pattie Cornute (@LipedemaFitness)

I was finally losing weight on an elimination diet. I've been allergic to dairy since my 20's, so i cut all animal products and grains. All the swelling and cellulite disappeared. 3 years have gone by, and I'm back to the animal products and grains. The cellulite and swelling have returned along with the pain. It's time to go back to the elimination diet.

For me it has been a sense of shame for most of my life. My older brother was tall and relatively lean and expressed his disgust for ‘fat girls’, I think projecting his hatred for me onto them. So I got that message loud and clear. And then negative comments I got from my father, uncle, grandmother usually about my legs. I probably have only ever been at stage one but have had it in my arms and legs. I was lean on top with next to no boobs so felt I was this mishmash of non matching body parts. I didn’t fit the fat arms big boobs, small bum & slim legs pattern. Or the skinny arms, small boobs bigger legs pattern. My brother had ‘blocked sinuses’ as a teen and the doctor prescribed him a steroidal sinus spray. My mother assumed I had this issue as well and got it prescribed for me as well and so I would use this steroid sinus spray, for no reason not realising how it was negatively affecting my hormones. I think that’s why I didn’t have proper breast development. I have even had multiple comments - usually by women commenting on how small chested I am which I find really offensive. Am in my 50s and even recently a friend made a comment about it. I now think I likely have a type of EDS along with various other issues and this probably explains my long narrow feet and long fingers and toes - yet another source of criticism and comment from others and sense of being out of proportion. So disguising parts of my body via clothing has been a dominant feature for most of my life. It lead to me overspending on clothes and shoes to the point it was an addiction. I would buy a lot of clothes but could never get the proportions right unless I spent hours and hours trying different combinations on. I would constantly be late to school and later to work because I couldn’t get my clothing looking or feeling right. I have bought multiple swimming outfits over the years ‘in case’ some spontaneous trip to go to the beach or pool came up that I couldn’t get out of. Which it hardly ever does. I used to dread going to the beach as I just couldn’t figure out how to look good. I hate photos and opted out of a family holiday at the beach because the thought of having to figure out what to wear every day was too much. That is the same thing for every summer holiday I go on. Partly because of that (plus other issues like food allergies) my family hardly ever goes on holiday. For me its not just the not looking toned, proportions not right but I’ve also had issues with varicose veins, broken capillaries on my calves which also add to the problem of even wearing a knee length skirt. I now basically live in oversized tops, leggings or skinny jeans which act as a type of compression garment. I dislike wearing anything loose fitting now as I have got used to the compression and even the thought of wearing dresses to funerals and weddings fills me with a sense of dread that most people just cannot understand. I knew this obsession wasn’t normal which added to the sense of shame always pretending I wasn’t trying to hide everything as much as I was. Its quite a relief to know I wasn’t just being paranoid about all my issues over the years and there were reasons behind it all. Sad that I felt so bad for so long though, spent so much time & money on clothes & shoes and had to put up with so many judgmental peoples comments as well.

You have put many different pieces together for me. I learned so much from listening to this interview. I am also thinking magnesium deficiency plays a part in these sensitivities. Animal foods are low in magnesium. Greens have lots of magnesium. I believe lack of magnesium creates allergies and sensitivities. So grateful for the many insights you shared. I have wheat allergy and some people suggest dairy protein similar to the wheat protein that it creates antibodies and allergy to wheat. I will see a heart doctor that specializes in lipidema for the first time in two days. This added information will be so helpful.

I think most/many people say IgE response is "allergy" and lgG is "intolerance or sensitivity. I have long had food allergy/sensitivity/intolerance problems. Much allergy testing of all kinds over the years. I have very few IgE responses, a few IgA, but lgG is off the charts. I avoid as much as possible but also take allergy shots for airborne inhalants which cannot be avoided.

I'm a Lymphatic Detoxification Therapist, Nutritional Therapist and Optimal Blood Chemistry Analyst in the Mpls MN area. I've been working with lipidema & lymphadema since 2002. There ARE blood tests to determine food sensitivities that are quite reliable to easily tell you what foods NOT to eat! There ARE Professional Nutritional supplements that assist the body to breakdown the stagnant lymph and debris in these pockets, so the lymphatic system can remove them from the body. I have also used a medical device to assist lymphatic drainage that is 5-8 times faster than manual, lymphatic massage. The medical device is something that I couldn't live with out! It's been a miracle for me, personally as well as for my clients. Once you get the entire lymphatic system cleared with our protocol, the results are AMAZING with no surgery!! It is, however, a deep commitment and everyone responds personally to their own path from circumstances and abilities. I'm so happy to find these groups on UA-cam and this medical issue being brought to light!👍❤ THERE IS HOPE!

I’m not supposed to eat food. I tried almost everything fasting for days cutting calories, working out until I would get nausea. Three years ago I was so frustrated I took food out of my diet and just drank golden milk. Thats turmeric, ginger, pepper and canned coconut milk. within three months I lost fifty pounds. I didn’t know anything about lipedema until a few weeks ago. I gained all the weight back of course, but I started back and the legs are going down already.

Says this is not recognized as a disease so not covered by health insurances. Seems to be primarily common among women which could hormonal involvement. For this reason I stay away from All animal products except free range and organic. Many times animals are fed foods that encourage fast growth of animals to get them to the market faster meaning $$$$$, I’d also stay away from factory raised meat/chicken, we just don’t know enough yet.

I noticed my body, particularly my legs, getting bigger(!) than they already were and I couldn't understand what was going on. Earlier this year, I learned about lipedema and I've been on the journey to diagnosis ever since (yes, I have food-and-hand-sparing lipedema) and I'm going to start lymphatic therapy next month to hopefully help arrest progression. I am grateful my body actually survived an entire marathon and that it continues to serve me. I'm grateful for this group and so many other resources from citizen-warriors that are out there to provide hope. This seems like a devastating, hopeless condition (and there are many clueless doctors) and seeing so many women thriving is priceless.

@@leonormartinez9108 i went in the lab and did blood test for food tolerance. Apparently, I've been eating mostly things i wasnt supposed to. It's a narrow choice -non dairy, no egg yolk, only white fish, turkey white, greenery. No fruits, no roots, not even oregano and i ate it every day. No tomatoes, no grains....etc...but now i know i started getting weight when i started using dairy 😱🙈 in first 5 days i lost 3 kilos. Since i am stucked in the office, i cant really do much of the fitness but i feel ok, no dizziness etc Glucose levels are normal, slightly elevated, still in range, i guess it's normal because liver is releasing glucose stash. They told me that it's very important to be absolutely clean for a 3.months and then i should still avoid allergens as much as i can but include "lesser allergens" 🤷 i guess if Jordan Peterson Survived 3 months eating only broccoli and chicken, we can do that too 😂

This really drives home the Mayra, 'do what works for you' What a great aha moment, I've had diets that did work for me in the past. I've been carnivore for a few years and have sensitivities still.

I agree with Cheryl in everything. I diagnosed myself with lipedema since no doctor knows about it. For me starches like potatoes (yes, same as her I used to gain 6 pounds during the night when I had a boiled potato for diner, nobody believed me) but also wheat, less intense with rice, yuca, plantain, basically carbs are not friendly to me.. I'm 64 now and I was starving myself for decades... I found keto and I did it for four years and it did nothing for me on the contrary during that period I gained weight and cellulite like crazy I got to the conclusion that some no starchy vegetables are for me like poison like broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes, etc. you know the ones you eat when "eating healthy" and I had been eating healthy for the last 40 years of my life.. who knew.. so now I have been in the carnivore diet animal based only for 18 months, I have lost 25 pounds but I have had a lot of progress and my body has been reshaping very nicely... I used to use different devices vibrational plates, massagers, etc. but I got tired of them because you use them for an hour a day or so and nature is working against you for those 23 hours left it's like weeding the garden you will never win, never. Please women around the world if you find this video go carnivore you will not regret it.. The fact that this is an issue for women only makes me sure that hormonal issues are a big part of this illness too.

Same experience for me too. Most veggies are poison for me, but fruits are fine - even fruits that masquerade as veggies like squashes and avocados are fine. I just do better on a meat-based diet.

Same for me - gained on keto. I decided to try carnivore January 2024 and lost over 20 pounds in about 2 months. I did not know I had lipedema, diagnosed with fibro over 20 years ago plus arthritis, and I am going to be 72 soon. I wish I had learned of this sooner to have been able to live with less pain. Important to locate grass fed beef, but for me, I try to drain most fat since I suffer with GERD. Pilates has really helped so much.

I am self diagnosed (same problem as the other women here) and I've been eating 80% meat for almost a year now. My cellulite is very noticeably improving! I am struggling to go the last 15-20% to make it fully carnivore, those hyper processed foods are pathologically addictive!
