This was for me to actually see the batteries being discharged to 50% (left it running, check again around midnight). This gave me a "visual" to the importance of safe operation of a battery bank energy souce. the battery bank is a 12V35AH time four batteries in parallel to have 140AH but using no more that 50% aka 70AH or 840 watts. Now I have data to do calculations and figure more stuff out.

Performance is good, I've seen it as high as 14.5 coming in. For those of you who are new to the solar energy, this is a good start. You dont have to invest a lot of money to learn "almost" everything, where you can go in the economic side of things is, you can go to a marine deep cycle battery to learn the details of charge and discharge batteries. The cost is way lees from the neighborhood st...

    👍 Excellent demo and video! 👍 I have the smaller single solar panel and a 400 watt for my Dremel carving, but after seeing your setup I think I'll upgrade to a larger 4 panel, 4 battery and the 750watt. I don't draw a lot of power with the Dremel only, but seeing your fan makes me think it would be nice to have a larger modern and more efficient setup that can handle a fan AND other small woodworking tools that can run at the same time and still keep up without hearing the overload all the time.

    Maybe if the air has a lot of moisture in it one of those fet transistors will pop or if the timing generator is off. You might hear a pop. Its possible. Lucky they are pretty cheap.

    If I'm not mistaken the charge controller came with this kit only does 30A max on either 12v or 24v setting. So it can only parallel plug 2 panel at 12v or serial/parallel to 24v at four panel.

      The controller is a 10A just enough for the panels in the 100-watt kit.

    Good to see that you DID connect the positive and negative cables in an "opposite feed" configuration. By charging/discharging from "opposite ends" of your battery bank, you have effectively balanced the voltage/current loading/charging of your system.... One aspect to consider if/when you may build another system, is to use a 24 or 48 volt battery bank and inverter so as to greatly reduce the voltage drop caused by higher current and with running a higher voltage set up, the wire size doesn't have to be nearly as large in the AWG sizing.... You said you used what you had on hand, but, I "know" that you will want to dick around with building another system and my suggestions to use higher voltage components will reward you with MUCH better efficiency and performance.... Good video....

    When the batteries are connected in parallel they are balanced but if you connect the charger or load to any particular battery it may cause heating issues or one of the batteries might be damaged earlier, this also maybe happened to a mismatched batteries lets say old and new batteries putting them together. what is the best for the parallel string is that you connect positive wire to one of the side of the string and connect negative wire to another end of the string this will balance all the batteries in between. Here is an example : battlebornbatteries.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Add-a-subheading-4-768x432.png

    Because you have turned the inverter ( Load) on which is pulling amps directly from the battery so there was a voltage drop caused by the inverter. Your panels however is not producing enough current at that particular moment to pull that voltage higher such as up to 14.5. Using a MPPT controller will be little more efficient in this scenario. If you turn off your inverter the voltage will jump off to preset charging voltage again, by the way it is perfectly normal.

      Totally agree, I still haven't been able to purchase them. This was just the 1st Run so I can discharge the batteries a bit. Today I ran the panels to see how they charge the batteries. Yesterday the batteries read 12.5v from 13.1v when I shut everything down. I ran a med size shop fan for two hours to discharge the batteries some. This morning the bank read 12.5v. Started at 8:45am and shut it down at 12:45pm, at the two hour mark the digital display was indicating 13.1v. When I shut everything down it registered 13.4v. I left it at that. Yes the fuese to all positives cables will be done, thanks for reminding me. Good day.

    A good rule of thumb is every 100 Watts at 120 volts ac is roughly equal to 1 amp so 100w at only 12 volts DC would be 10 amps so your fan is 2.9 amps at 120 volts ac that would be 290 W roughly. But once you invert it you have to remember that load is being drawn from the 12 V so that 2.9 amps is actually closer to 30 amps DC I would say you should be able to run that fan on high for roughly an hour and a half to two hours with those batteries you have and no input from the solar.

      Yes, I purposely waited for nightfall so I can just used the batteries, not using the battery maintainer but tomorrow plug the solar panels to see how quick they charge back to 13.8V. I saw today the controller said at 3pm the panels were generating 14.1V, thats if Im reading the controller correctly, whichbis another learning adventure at 60. Lol

    • @Bbernhardsr
      @Bbernhardsr Рік тому

      @@mostrogolf22 the different modes go like this. The first mode or the first screen where it was showing your battery voltage at 12.6 V that was the main screen that shows you voltage coming from the panels and going into the batteries. The next screen where it said 13.1 or 13.8 whichever one it was, that was float charging mode. The next screen when it showed 14.4 was where you set the charger to just dump as much current as possible into the batteries. There is really no reason to cycle through the options. Leaving it on the first screen makes it fully automatic and the solar panels will charge the batteries until it gets to about 80% full then it'll switch to float charging.
