Looks to me like the back end went first, started to overtake the fronted then the front lost grip. (play at .25 speed, you will see), Possible causes. Deisel/oil. Worn or cheap back tyre. If it was uphill you would have had more potential for wheel spin on a slippery road than on the flat as there would be more power going to the back wheel. Either way that was extremely unlucky. Not much you can do once a bike slides 2 up fully loaded. Good to see that you were OK..
...what you need to do is get off the wrong side of the road.... before you cause another accident...just because you fell off your bike doesn't mean you OWN the road...in fact the road nearly OWNED you!
American garbage bikes are not suitable for the Alps. I know what I'm talking about, in 13 years I've brutally overtaken everyone on my scooter without a single exception. If you see me in the rear-view mirror, you've already lost. 🤣 The tires must be pretty crappy, so always ride when it's dry and there are no curves nearby. 😎
Absolutely first thing - nobody injured!!! 👍👍👍 I've looked at this at quarter speed and a very slight wrong line with the slightest of adjustment but to me it's really it's just down to road conditions / change in road conditions at the end of the tunnel, although it's difficult to judge your speed. Without knocking a manufacturer, Harley's are not really designed for these types of roads, especially in the wet, which is why they're not great sellers in Europe for these types of trips. The gamble of no insurance and no gloves may not have been the best bet, but as my parents lovingly used to tell me, "your old enough and ugly enough to make your own decisions". 😂 FYI, gloves and helmet are a legal requirement in France. Anyhow, stiff upper lip and carry on! 👍
Boa sorte!
Riding to conditions is really important in the wet. It looks as though the corner tightens towards the end of the tunnel and you don’t have that view when you entered the tunnel. It can happen, but less speed mitigates the risk. Lucky spill. Count your blessings.
Yes no oncoming traffic was a true blessing. Sorry I have no idea, I had never had that happen before, was driving very normally for those conditions IMHO
It’s happens to every seasoned rider. Happened to me back in 1979, Phoenix, AZ. Hit a fuel slick accelerating around an off ramp. Back then some car manufacturers use to put the gas filler behind the license plate. Bad Idea. Watch them RR tracks in the rain too.
Luckily you seem to have no severe injuries! Riding without gloves is not possible. One can see ruts on the road, filled with water (0:03), you began sliding before reaching the end of the tunnel (0:06). Too much lean, too much speed, too much weight. My point of view. Have a safe ride! 🖖
This was no Diesel spill - simply overcompensated late in the bend because it was going wide, combination of concentration (lack of) and speed on we roads but mostly the former. The best outcome is you were both unhurt. Ride safe in future buddy.
A lot of comments regarding rain, wet road and diesel fuel, but you notice other riders coming out of the tunnel no problems. Speed too fast for the riders rain/wet road experience, Big heavy loaded bike. Slow down in turns transitioning out of a tunnel in the rain. 👍 Get an RT and take rider experience courses.
When roads are wet , you MUST limit your lean to as little as possible . I dont care what kind of tires you have . 200k on bikes . I dont ride in the rain . If I do get caught , we slow roll back to wherever we came from that day .
Thanks and i agree with you....that rental bikes tires were decent enough, not sure what your seeing here but my lean was actually quite minimal. i had been riding for hours in those same weather conditions. I am 67 and been riding since 14 owned more than 20 different bikes, 4 presently so i have a mile or two myself different bikes all weather conditions. Thought about this for hours and other than something slick in the road (it just washed out like hitting ice... (and it wasn't freezing) in the sum of my riding years, have never had this happen except once many years ago with ice) the only other thing i could chalk it up to is there was no Gremlin Bell on that bike:).......That was day 2 of a 12 day ride.... Spent 10 more days riding around Europe on that rental and had a great trip all and all.... Blessed no one was coming the other way👼
I recall as a kid seeing Evel Knievel interviewed on TV. Even though I was not then a motorcycle addict, I never forgot him saying that he considered riding in the rain to be crazy.
If ur caught in the rain then by definition you do ride in the rain. Alot of ppl think riding on wet road is like ice its not, you still have alot of grip.
@@steve00alt70 Let me rephrase my post for the smartasses here ... I never intend to ride in the rain .. but have been caught in it . Also wet roads are not like ice .. but your grip is severely limited ESPECIALLY the more you lean the bike .
Me Either :)
That’s why I hate having a pillion. Takes weight off the front wheel.
Okay, they must have already said it but 2 big mistakes, too much lean and speed for those conditions and an unjustifiable absence of gloves

Never had a problem riding in rain. Yes oil etc can make it slippery but the signs are usually there.
Good that both were ok after this. Thank goodness there was no speeding vehicle coming the opposite way.

Well no insurance first thing to enter your mind ,second thing was is the wife ok 😂,you were going really well until you fuvking crashed dude 😮
I had the similar accident, do have not possibility to avvoid the situation!
are you ok? we had an accident during the motorcycle test. ua-cam.com/video/S0_NBnf_Z_Q/v-deo.html

Same thing happened to me with my Ténéré 700 right after a bend on the right. What to say? It happens... All the best 👋

Harleys are tricky in wet conditions. A mountain of torque at low rpm and no traction control. Be careful specially when cornering.
I have never had an issue until that day with a Harley...BTW I live in Texas...👍
When you have pillions rear luggage it removes some weight from the front (which is where u want it) towards the back. Was this in Germany?
Yes it was Germany

Ma cosa ca22o aspettano a rialzare la moto ????
Glad you are alright! Oil over Rain Water is un predictable when mixed with an 800 Lb soft tail, rubber, and 350 lbs of cargo !
That’s not a soft tail. It’s a tourer bagger with twin shock back end.

Wet roads , maybe something slick on the surface. Can happen to any of us. Gear or not, I try to avoid riding in the rain. Glad you two are ok
We are fine, Thanks!
why no insurance?
Wow, that was quick!! Hope y”all were not injured
Hello! Would it be okay to use this in compilations and possibly on some of our social networks? You will receive full credit for it. Thanks!

Applied front brake to aggressive in the turn on wet road ?
Oh, my gosh. What was the reason for that slippery? The wet surfave? God bless you. Best wishes fron Germany
Step 1 learn to ride Step 2 buy a motorbike.

Well, riding in the rain requires a bit of extra care… try to stay off the middle of the road where all the oil is.

Slippery when wetter.......😢
Did I really hear someone called Hoffman saying that they didn’t understand German?
