    At the moment I'm making my first game. Hope to publish on play store soon. But after multiple videos I already decided I don't wanna mess my game with ads at all. And specially for this amount what they pay. It's just not worth it. I will gonna put some ingame cosmetics options only. If people want to buy I'm happy if not I'm happy to. Most important for me is to get someone to try it out and actually enjoy. Money making with games are for popular and rich 😂

      That is the best way to look at it, just have fun making it and hope people have fun playing it, the money is secondary, if it comes then awesome but if it doesn’t you can still be happy with the achievement of making a game and people playing it 😁 good luck with your first game, wish you the best!

    Unity is unfortunately following many other creative industry companies in fucking over indie creators. I really hope they backtrack on this. This is a massive middle finger to indie devs who made unity as popular as it is today.

      Couldn’t agree more, however them reversing the decision is looking unlikely given their recent statement: “We are listening, talking to our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes to the policy.” - sounds to me like they are scrambling to find a way to make this policy work for them. I hope they prove me wrong though.

  • @antonioxiii3990
    @antonioxiii3990 8 місяців тому

    Thanks for covering it fairly! Like you said, for many games it may be less money than Unreal's fee (people may rightly choose to use another engine despite that). However, for F2P mobile, this basically caps how much you can bring in. Once you reach the threshold in which the install fee applies to you, your game starts losing money. Mobile F2P games do not make $0.20 per user. At that point you gotta start charging to download your game, get even more aggressive with microtransactions and ads (which will probably drive away players), or just take it off the store. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds, whether Unity will backtrack or double down. If you switch to Unreal or Godot, hopefully you'll share about the challenges you face so that we can all learn.

    • @AlextheDev
      @AlextheDev 8 місяців тому

      No problem! I tried my best not to be bias either way, I mean I love Unity but the situation is ridiculous. Especially since I make f2p games myself, l agree with exactly what you just said. There’s no way to earn .20c per user without either charging for the game or monetising it in a way that would annoy every player. People already get annoyed with how many micro transactions and ads there are 😅 Part of me hopes they reverse the decision or come up with a better strategy. Either way I plan on experimenting with some other engines. Don’t want to keep all my eggs in one basket… and I’ll definitely share my experience as I go! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😁

  • @IPlumpton
    @IPlumpton 8 місяців тому

    Yeah it's a mess. I can't see me ever getting near the caps, but it's a trust issue. Who's to say they won't drop the thresholds or up the price per install when they decide they want more money? I have dabbled with Unreal and Godot, I'm not very far into my project, I might just see how I get in with a different engine.

    • @AlextheDev
      @AlextheDev 8 місяців тому

      It’s chaotic. I’m not sure what to do, on one hand there’s years of experience in Unity. On the other, I agree with exactly what you said. There’s clearly nothing stopping them from changing the price or adding new rules as they go along. I’m ready to experiment with both Godot and Unreal. I had some experience in UDK years ago so hopefully that helps smooth the learning curve…

    • @AlextheDev
      @AlextheDev Рік тому

      Firstly thanks for watching the video, hope you enjoyed it 😁 If I remember correctly it was something to do with an asset I used for the skies. I can’t remember exactly what I changed to fix it but it was something to do with one of the lighting values/settings. Boiled down, I think it was a case of the light being too bright, causing materials to appear bright white. But this only affected older devices. It was a weird one… Hope that helps 😁

    Is it still worth it to put ads in games when they only make lil money? 😮

    • @AlextheDev
      @AlextheDev Рік тому

      Good question! Yes, I’d say so. I mean there’s a handful of other monetisation options and some might work better than others for certain types of apps. It’s always worth experimenting. With that said, ads are slow, and may be small income at first. But if you work on it, or if you’re lucky and you’re game is a success, that can change. I suppose in the end it’s down to the developer to choose whether they are worth it, or if they want to try something else.

    • @AlextheDev
      @AlextheDev Рік тому

      Honestly, the numbers haven’t changed drastically. But I would say between this video, making more games, and all the other minor marketing methods I’ve attempted. I have managed to increase my income slightly. Not by much, but it’s progressively getting better. I am hoping to do a follow up video at some point. It would be interesting to go through it all properly 😁
