Tenchi Muyo! - Opening Theme (Full Version with Intro)
The theme used in the opening sequence of the anime has a short lead-in that isn't present in the official full length version of the song featured on the various soundtrack albums from the show. Every version of the full length song I've found abruptly starts without the lead-in. as far as I know, there is no official release featuring the full length song with the intro lead-in, so I created my own by splicing the intro from the anime version into the full length version.

What's crazy is listening to this with headphones, and knowing what a midi track sounds like, then realizing just how much of this was in midi... yet it felt so organic and alive.
So much hard work, inspiration and genius went into making this artstic expression (and the anime, also). Thanks to all for the experience.
Still one of the very best anime opening themes of all time. And the best traditionally Japanese sounding songs I've ever heard. Always sounded so damn cool.

I'd call it jazz fusion. It has elements of typical Japanese fusion of the time, as well as traditional Japanese folk music. If you like this, check out stuff by bands like Casiopea and T Square.

If I recall correctly, this theme never had an official name. Websites back in the day called it "Ballad of Ryo-ohki" so that's what I've always called it even though it's not a ballad. Lol.
I always heard it called ryo-ohki, but never understand why that would be its name. Wouldn't it make more sense to just call it Tenchi Muyo??

Thank you for making a version with the lead-in from the anime and including that bit of information in the description! Way, way, way back in the day, back during the days of dial-up connections and WinMX/Limewire, I spent so many hours trying to find a version of it with this lead-in for one of my custom CDs and could only find official soundtrack versions without it. I thought I just had bad luck, but now I know that it was thrown in just for the anime intro. I'm feeling nostalgic and created a playlist of all those songs from back in the day, so I'm going to download this and replace the one I had so I can hear it how I remember it. Thank you once again!

Jeez does time fly. Tenchi Muyo was one my favorite anime’s of all time. Ryoko will forever be a badass, she was the best character in the entire show. I had a massive crush on her when I was a younger.
Still have a crush on her. Yeah, she's not real but you can't help wishing that she was. My favorite female anime character hands down. After her is Project A-Ko.
Man this brings back memories,90s anime,toonami,cartoons,movies, the 90s and 2000s were an awesome time I do miss it,Ryoko is still my favorite character from Tenchi.

too many modern anime have openings from angry rock bands and promiscuous idols both singing about their uneasy lifestyles through the song when the anime most likely doesn't have anything to do with it, sometimes you just need a opening instrumental with a sense of mysticism and traditional jpn instruments mixed with electronic music

How on earth did this thing get dubbed? This kind of anime isn't the kind of thing you should EVER import. Not that we shouldn't get representation, but certainly not on a kids channel.
Let me explain for people that don't know: This is a Harem Anime. All of the Tenchi series are. They HEAVILY edited the series. So much that I think they changed the Story premise for it.
@torn side Japanese standards for 12 year olds likely aren't the same as ours. Culture differences and all that.
@@kadindarklord This series is actually a lot tamer than most harem anime. The plot is intact, the only edits are the more risque scenes, the use of language and maybe some of the violence at times. It was pretty popular back then, mostly because anime on broadcast TV was relatively rare at the time and the industry dedicated to presenting it here was still in it's beginnings.
