I was 16 years old when this all happened. Growing up in the 70s and 80s were a big part of my life. And having this team do what it did at that time after what this country was going through was incredible. We were a counter that was falling apart at the seems, prices were out of control, everything was in a free fall and we had a leader at the time i remember was an embarrassment. I was in high school and i remember my father working 3 jobs to get us by as a family. It was a very difficult time. And then came along these college kids and it gave us all a great feeling of just how great we used to be and are going to be!!! Thankyou guys. 🇺🇸☘️
That guy at 25:10 looks like the Honky Tonk Man from the World Wrestling Federation back in the days.
I was watching this in Canada. As the applause went on and on, I phoned a fellow Bruins fan and asked him, "Do you believe this?" He said, "Yeah, certainly. How else would everyone react?"
As a Cal student (a junior) in 1982 I turned down (!) an invitation to attend this game because I had to go to work. My brother later called me at work screaming on the other end of the phone. I didn't believe what he told me, but when I got home and saw the reply, it was exactly as he described.

Elway sealed their fate calling the time out with 8 seconds left, and the unsportsmanlike penalty on the field goal.
Foreman did beat the count--but even he said afterwards that he was totally spent. He couldn't win. Had he continued--he would've suffered worse humiliation.
Elway lost that game for Stanford because he’s the one who called timeout with 8 seconds. No fault of the coaches.
Poor clock management by Stanford
Kevin Moen was a running back, not a quarterback, at Rolling Hills High. I know this because in his senior year I saw him dominate my own high school's team. Several of our players were injured trying to tackle him. Three years later I got to see him score the winning touchdown. One member of our group was in a wheelchair, and we sat at the center of the top row, right below her. It's so wonderful to be able to say "I was there".
This was the sound of hockey to us.
Him and Munson , classic ! Best Baseball !
The BEST !
I grew up in Hartord. Red sox country. I love the Yankees!
My folks are from new Hampshire. I get him. Im also a Yankees fan.
Wow, could they fly! And no masks, no helmets, no advertising and no names on back of their jerseys.
No this, no that, no anything.
@@ckendall67 Well I have to say that goalie masks have improved goadtending, but I miss the days when you could indentify a player by his haircut.
The legendary Joe Starkey on the call. Im not a Cal Bears fan but i am a lifelong 49ers fan. Go 49ers!
It's great seeing Gordy Howe, Sid Able, and Ted Lindsey. Production Line.
Great video
My favorite line in Joe starkey's call is at the end, "there will be no extra point"!
I love the tee for field goals
It was a kicking block. Used all the way up to the early 90s
@@bnegs521 that's right
Stanford should've milked the clock down to 3 seconds then kick and time would've expired and Cal doesn't have their miracle finish! 42 years ago! Damn I'm old! 😂
Great job! What an awesome video!👍👍👍👍👍👍
The build up to The Play makes you realize how epic The Play really was. Cal had won. Then thanks to the great John Elway, they lost. But then, the greatest play in football history.
Thanks for posting this.
Thank you very much. Great souvenirs
I did not know there was a 15 yd penalty on Stanford for "exuberance " 😅😊
I remembered this video and decided to see if it was on UA-cam and here it is.
My father was 22 years old when this happen
someone tell me a better highlight moment that can beat this... yeah exactly, there isnt one. some good ones but not better than this.
Thank you, Bobby and Josh!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hands down, the most exciting play ever to be seen and heard in any sport of any kind....with the golden voice of Joe Starkey leading the way.
The patriots
New England vs Philadelphia revolutionary war Sir Tom brandy with is captain john smith will sail to the ship to return to Pocahontas Play by play defense and offense you will see the captain john smith will is the best captain john smith the first thanksgiving in America
Even if Foreman beat the count it wouldn't of mattered Foreman had nothing left .Muhammad Ali was.the stronger man
The announcing was counting slow Foreman didn't beat the count can't go by announcer Bob Sheridan
Ali was the stronger man. That was.the key to winning this fight
He was ok, I guess……….
Wow. Unreal version of HSR's magnum opus in great quality to boot. A thousand thanks.
Danny Gallivan
A lot of things lead up to “the play”: Stanford leaving too much time on the clock, and the 15 yard penalty on the kickoff…
Thanks for the upload. You know, Gino was usually pretty good but on that 3rd Down sack by Bruschi on the Eagles first possession he's talking over the play-by-play man. Can't do that. That's what the idiot Zolak does on literally every play. The second half of the Brady-Belichick dynasty all the Pats radio calls are ruined because Zolak is yelling and groaning just being a complete failure at his job. Let the play-by-play man make the call - then talk. That's how it's been done for 100 years. I mean, gosh.
Zolak was overrated on the field and not much of a commentator.
One of the games greatest catchers who played his heart out and played the game the way it is supposed to be played . Great competitive player who shares the same birthday as me. Great Capricorn ..😅 no catcher in this generation will compare to this guy. A pure hall of famer.
DAMN IM OLD. I watched this gm when I was 11yrs old 😅😂
I was 14
I was 8.
It’s at 8:16
Saw the Unattached at Ralph's in Worcester a few times. Never understood why they didn't go further.
wow, this is ancient, I didn't get into pro hockey till about 1960.
Uncle Joe Starkey, the announcer, livened the magical 80s when San Francisco Bay Area Football ruled all. ua-cam.com/video/NReCD28A_qE/v-deo.htmlsi=AJlQIYcNKVExQ6c1
Thanks for the upload. Some really incredible clips there. Orr was that rare type of player, I can only think of Gretzky and Orr, who knew where everyone was at all times, and how the play would develop. But Orr had unreal speed and his hand eye was astounding. Best 2 way player ever in the history of the game.
The game was slow motion back then
@SteveJones-g9n not always and don't forget the skates they used... Many of the players of today wouldn't even be able to skate let alone skate at speed. They played longer shifts as well, and their equipment got heavy. There's modern highlights where you see the game slowed down and things happen slow speed. Great players can slow games down. Don't forget Orr, only had a few good years because poor surgery techniques didn't fix the problem adequately. On a good night Orr was one of the fastest things I've seen.
@@nthdegree1269 They'd be better than Bobby, I know the whole story about the skates. It was a different game, a much better game, the game sux now in my opinion.
@SteveJones-g9n Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player ever. He could stop pucks , play defense and play offense. He had that Wayne Gretzky psychic ability. He knew where the play was going to go. Players like that, speed of game is meaningless... because they're already on another level. That's why he could pass so well even when he was knocked down and he's not even looking. Not only the skates but the sticks as well. Everything now is to give the player an edge. Even Scotty Bowman who saw everyone said that no one could accelerate like Bobby Orr. The only exception being McDavid. And that's McDavid on new skates and equipment. Because the game was slower due to the equipment and line changes back then, Bobby Orr could play at different speeds. I remember Mario Lemieux slowing the game down, cuz everybody thinks faster, faster and faster. And that to them equates to being better. But when things slow down things can get a little difficult. Mario Lemieux would exploit that. Because people start to hesitate and move in awkward ways. And that's what Bobby Orr had. He had that ability to make everybody confused. Six of Bobby Orr would defeat six of any other player
