    Someone I know down here told me that they were more scared during Zeta, than they were Katrina which was surprising to hear. I moved down shortly after it hit, and it was pretty nuts to see all the branches and tree limbs all over the place, and roofs blown apart.

      Hi Michael! I’m still working on it. This was an easy edit as there was only about an hours footage to review. In contrast, there’s 8 hours of video, with Irma, I have to review, analyze, and edit down to a reasonable length. Still shocked and amazed by the extraordinary power of the wind and surge I witnessed in Mexico Beach on 10/10/18! That said, Irma still secures a place in the top 3 of the 31 separate hurricanes I’ve experienced, to date.

      As a hurricane chaser myself who lives in Naples, this was a nice front row seat that was cool to witness. I didn't experience hurricane Michael but prior to Irma my "born again" scare of my life moment was hurricane Charley in downtown Punta Gorda. It was much smaller than Irma but without a doubt much more ferocious as our amateur crew was caught off guard by the eyewalls 170+ mph gusts that felt more like an ongoing explosion rather than violent winds. Great work...I'll have to check out your hurricane Michael clips.

      Tropmet | Storm Chasing Thanks, Michael! I, too, thought the same about the palms we filmed. Was also surprised at the relative lack of severe structural damage considering the extreme winds we observed. Aside from the strong building codes in the area, suspect the relatively short duration of highest winds and much weaker southern eyewall also played a role in the aforementioned. Although, still saw some extreme wind damage to trees/palms and bended steel poles, etc.

    • @TropmetStormChasing
      @TropmetStormChasing 6 років тому

      For sure! I've had some extensive conversations with Jose Garcia (who chased Maria in Puerto Rico) about that topic... and what factors might contribute to the discrepancies in the damage to vegetation, as there are likely numerous factors. Still, I think you're right on the money with the shorter duration, and eroded back-half playing major factors in our immediate vicinity.
