My 43km walk across Montreal: Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue to the Old Port
In July 2024 I walked 43km from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in the far western end of Montreal to the Old Port. It was a beautiful, vibrant summer's day - a stark contrast to the 60km walk I did across the entirety of Montreal island earlier in the year. Come along with me for the walk!
Here's my Strava log of the walk: www.strava.com/activities/12006370194
And here's the video of the 60km walk I did across Montreal island: ua-cam.com/video/rmRTkfGj9Cg/v-deo.html

The abandoned ruins of Fort Montgomery! My 200km return bike ride from Montréal to Rouses Point
Переглядів 5802 місяці тому
In July 2024 I went on a 200km round-trip bike ride from Montréal QC to Rouses Point NY to see the abandoned ruins of Fort Montgomery (a.k.a. "Fort Blunder," for reasons which will become apparent in the video). Along the way I passed through some beautiful small towns and their connecting bike paths, including Chambly, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Valentin, before arriving in Rouses Poin...
I walked 60km from one end of Montreal to the other

Join me for an epic 60km adventure where I walked from the very northeastern tip of Montréal island at Parc du Bout-de-l'Île, to the southwestern point at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. This preposterous promenade took me nearly 14.5 hours to complete, but it was a wonderful way to see parts of the city I’d never otherwise see. If you enjoyed this, check out my video where I rode my bike 150km around...
What'll Russ Cook Up Next? - A song for the Hardest Geezer
Переглядів 1,6 тис.6 місяців тому
At the time of writing this, Russ Cook, otherwise known as The Hardest Geezer, is a week away from completing his nearly year-long, 16,000 kilometre run from the southernmost point of South Africa to the northernmost tip of Tunisia. History will be made when he crosses that finish line. Like thousands of others, I’ve been following his journey via the UA-cam series put together by his fantastic...
Reuniting with a lost melody: my 25 year search for a song!

CANE FIRE by STRUM, written by Timo Tolvanen, from the EP Distant Rain. Way back in 1998 at the youthful age of 14, I heard a particular song a single time on CMT, the chorus of which embedded deeply into my memory. I've been trying to search for it ever since, and finally I tracked it down - a quarter of a century later! This is the story of how I rediscovered it. You can find more info about ...
10km straight line jog in Montreal on the coldest day of the year
Переглядів 7117 місяців тому
Saturday 24th of March 2024 was the coldest day of the year in Montreal at -14ºC, which just happened to coincide with the day I planned to jog 10km along Avenue Papineau, the longest, straightest stretch of road (that I know of) on Montreal island. Join me to see if I made it!
A short tour of Casa Amarela Cemetery in Recife, Brazil

In January 2024 I paid a visit to the Cemitério de Casa Amarela in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. I loved the aesthetic of this place, especially the stark contrast between the peacefulness of the graveyard and the chaos of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The Dog Chapel: A Tribute to Coco

I visited the Dog Chapel, on top of Dog Mountain, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, to pay tribute to my parent's adorable English Staffy, Coco. Built in 2000 by Stephen Huneck, the Dog Chapel is a wonderfully peaceful and moving little sanctuary that anyone can visit to remember their dearly departed pets. I found where the true Old people of Olds spend their time

In September 2023 I travelled one hour out of my way to Olds, Alberta, pretty much because it has a funny name and I wanted to get a pic by the town's sign. I ended up finding where the true Old people of Olds spend their time.

My straight-line mission across Montreal's Mont-Royal
Переглядів 949Рік тому
I've always been curious if it's possible to walk across the entirety of Mont-Royal - the mountain situated smack-bang in the middle of Montreal city - in a straight line. I recently put this to the test and embarked upon a mission to get from Côte-Sainte-Catherine, on the western end of the mountain, to Saint-Catherine, on the eastern end. Did I succeed? Watch and find out! Of course, the mast...
I visited coffee farms in Colombia with Nespresso

In May 2023 I was honoured to take part in a trip to the beautiful town of Jardín, Colombia, along with 19 other amazing people from across Nespresso Canada. I put together this video of the experience, highlighting our visit to two coffee farms tucked away in the Antioquia mountains, as well as the Central Mill and the dry parchment coffee purchasing point. I hope you enjoy!

montreal a massive shithole fuck that place
Takes a special person to voluntarily walk the north route rather than the south.
No joke this video helped motivate me to walk a marathon from my place in the Sud-Ouest to Sainte Anne de Bellevue. My knees hurt!
My favourite thing about these videos is hearing that they've motivated others to go on similar adventures. That's awesome! I hope you've recovered a bit now and that you enjoyed your walk!
Thanks a lot to everyone who has watched this, I really appreciate your comments! I went on a second walk during the summer from Sainte-Anne to the Old Port, it's a lot more scenic and sunny, you can see the video here: ua-cam.com/video/8ePQlF_Sw24/v-deo.html
Great sequel to the previous coast to coast walk!
Cap 🧢
You should go to Rosemère and Old Terrebonne!
You missed a lot of nice areas like laval sur le lac, sainte rose, and more... You should have went during summer. Boulevard des milles iles has a lot of bike riders during summer...
You should walk around in Rosemère, one of the nicest town next to laval😃
Merci pour ton suggestion, I've not been up to Rosemère before, I'll have to check it out one day!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You followed one of my bike routes I take out of the city whenever I go on bike trips to Ontario! lol
I've lived Montreal for over 50 years. This route you have taken has seen a lot of improvements, such as the parks in Pointe-Claire and Dorval. A wastewater treatment facility greatly improved the water quality in the Lac St-Louis and it became a more desirable recreational space. Also, these areas are becoming more affluent as people buy up property and build along the shore. As you probably saw, road quality in Valois Bay is poor, as a result of weather and traffic. The bike paths also brought some vitality to Lachine. Dorval used to be farmland and before the canal bike path, the canal itself was quite polluted.
Congrats on walking the lenght of Montreal and having such a positive outlook😊
I love biking through this route! Awesome video, and I like the historical references you added!
How do you condition for such long walks? I myself enjoy long walks but after maybe 15km it kinda feels like neverending.
Yeah I know what you mean. From the physical aspect, something that helped a few years back was committing to 10,000 steps each day for a full month, ever since then I've been able to maintain a pretty good shape. And mentally, having the goal of putting the video together helps keeps me engaged.
Great video, thank you for sharing!
Do Laval next
This cracks me up each time I watch it. 😂😂
i had a good time last month doing the counterclockwise perimeter bike tour of MTL inspired by you! what a day!
That's great to hear! I'm really happy to have inspired you to do that!
Awesome Dan! Love travelling along with you on your adventures.....(How cute are Groundhoggies!!!!!) Tourism Canada should give you your own travel TV Show....
your energy and friendliness brightened my day! thank you for this video
Thank you for recording this long walk and sharing it with the world - it's a very enjoyable watch.
Great walking video!
Very nice! You always seem happy when doing these adventures, I encourage you and I hope that other videos will come! Do you think we have to be athletic to complete this challenge?
Thank you Steve! I really enjoy doing this kind of thing, it's nice to know it comes through in the videos. It helps to be conditioned to walking, like you'd probably want to do a few 10-20km walks before going for 40+ but I don't think you need to be *super* athletic.
glad you enjoyed the walk m8. Taking the longer route along the river through lasalle/verdun is also very pretty
quickest i've ever clicked on a video. solid content, as usual!
Thanks a lot Adam! Ottawa ride coming up next when I get around to editing it
Love your videos keep it up. Cheers mate.
Beautiful Scenery, abandoned railway tracks and a Pint! That’s my kind of hike!!
Thanks bro! I had you and Adrian in mind along the railway tracks!
Very nice walk 🇬🇧
4:34 good to know it has a formal name but I will keep calling it Stargate 🙃 What a walk! Congrats on the achievement and reaching your goals.
If you wanted deers, you should have come to Longueuil, at Parc Michel-Chartrand, there's a lot of them.
Ok, you're a big rider. Nice. I just started watching your videos
My friend, I take that route a lot, and I love it. Honestly, if you want a fun ride. Do Montreal to Cornwall Ontario there and back. I did that back in August, and damn, it was hard, but it was an amazing ride. 17 hours on my checkpoint 292 km, and it was amazing. I love riding my bike. Great video man.
Hey thanks for watching! MTL to Cornwall and back would be brutal, wow 292km? I did it one-way a while back and it was beautiful out there along the Soulanges Canal. I rode to Ottawa recently and will get to editing that video pretty soon!
@@DanSchaumann that's my plan for next summer
Also, I'm planning more weekends rides
Go to l’île bizard and walk the woods you Will enjoy
There is a better way to go to saint Anne from des sources! The bike Path at the exit of bois de liesse on Sunnybrook goes all the way to saint anne! Nice vidéo ! Thanks for sharing
Hello Dan, you should make more vidéo just like that! Very nice to watch and good job!
Really like your content, Dan! You seem like a genuine nice guy. I grew up in Île-Perrot, just west of the island of Montréal, maybe I should give a try to this or your 'walk the entire island' challenge.
Thanks William! I've considered a walk around the Île-Perrot circumference as well, I don't think I'll get to it this year but maybe the next
@@DanSchaumann I strongly recommend going around boulevard Perrot, which essentialy goes around the full island. Also possible to bike it, it's not that long and the views are worth it. Not many people know the place and it's got some hidden gems. Also, stop at Smoke Meat Pete for lunch or dinner, it's worth it.
Good vid ❤
Odd choice to walk the TCan in the west island. I would have thought that following Gouin all the way to the west end would have been easier walk.
What a nice find!! I've done the 150 km two summers in a row now and it's just one of the most interesting fun ways to discover parts of the island that you didn't know existed. Also I'm thinking of doing an architectural tour around the island. There are a lot of interesting homes and locations that only us bikers see on this trip.
Harris Richard Brown Michael Perez Joseph
Very interesting! Nice job really
Thanks for the walk man. I walk a lot myself. I love finding hidden gems. Great video man
was waiting for your next video…. great one !
Thanks! I have two more filmed, just need to find the time to edit them, hopefully in the next month or so.
i feel like the views would’ve been a lot nicer if you hadn’t done this during the ugliest season of the year lol but i love this video anyway
00:56 Cool!
Great stuff, keep it up We would love to add your music on our blog
do you have any proof that you actually listened to it for 10 hours?
A man with love in his heart for the D would never use their name in vain
I watched your video a few months back and decided to do the walk today. Did the 55KM tip to tip walk in 10hr50min! Was originally aiming to get it done in 12
Great to hear! I'm pretty sure you're the first to comment about doing the whole walk after seeing the video, I'm very happy this has inspired others to do the same. 12 hours is a great time. Hope your legs recovered well!
Impressive! Now try walk 120km from one end of Greater Montreal to another (Saint-Zotique to Lavaltrie) 😂
