    Do you think this is a better option vs having a 220 volt electric heater hooked up?

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 6 місяців тому

      Great question! All comes down to budget and frequency of use. I’ll list a few pros and cons of each. Electric 240v Pro: heat at the flip of a switch Pro: no fuel to replace Con: initial cost of installation (I was quoted between 1500-2000 all depends on the length of wire needed to be run to your breaker box) Propane: Pro: anyone can install it, all you pay for is the heater itself Pro:very efficient Con: you’ll have to switch out the propane tank every so often. Not a deal breaker for me, but something to consider. Hope this helps! I have another video on my channel going over the yearly review as well with FAQ’s.

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 6 місяців тому

      Oh I will also add; a con to the 240v is the cost of electricity. This could turn into a big cost.

    Co2 is odorless so you will not know if there is a leak unless u have co2 detectors. If you smell rotten eggs thats a gas leak. Both propain and natural gas have a similar smell that is added so u know if there is a leak. Also that tank is 15lbs.

    The dyson heaters surge to 1800 watts for the first 30 seconds then go to 1500 watts. That will blow some fuses in some houses.

    Problem I’ve heard about using a propane heater, is the moisture it puts in the air. You noticed it yourself with the water vapor on your weights. And with my garage being used as a woodworking shop, all my equipment and tools would start to gain rust. I say that as it’s happened to others. Wish it wasn’t an issue, or I’d be using that heating system!

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 7 місяців тому

      Hey James - Luckily (or unluckily) my garage isn't well insulated or air tight. Because of that, moisture has not been a problem at all. And with the fan in place as an extra way to circulate air, I have yet to run into that issue. Pop in a dehumidifier into your garage. There are fairly inexpensive ones that start around to $40-$50 USD range. Without a doubt, that will definitely fix the issue, should it become one. Thanks for watching! :)

  • @FRUGALWITHJOHN
    @FRUGALWITHJOHN 7 місяців тому

    How is all the extra moisture doing in your garage with that style heater, or do you also run a dehumidifier at the same time?

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 7 місяців тому

      Hey, John. I have a video on the channel with a year review about it all. But in short, the moisture hasn’t done any “damage” to my gym equipment. No extra surface rust on any equipment or weight plate that would’ve otherwise happened on its own without the heater. My garage isn’t the most sealed. Which conveniently enough, allows me to not even have to open a window. (I’m looking at my not-so-well sealed garage as a plus in this light lol) So, if you have a well insulated area, ventilation via a cracked open window should be enough. If it’s a very small space you’re dealing with or hobbies that can get ruined with small amounts of moisture, than I would consider getting a dehumidifier. Thanks for watching!

    Approximately how long does it take this to heat your garage up say 20 degrees?

  • @silentstormstudios
    @silentstormstudios 7 місяців тому

    Looks like a good solution for someone that only needs to heat the garage while they are in the garage. However, I needed a solution that was safe enough that I could leave it running all the time, day and night, to keep the garage above 50 degrees or so and never let it drop below that. The idea is to maintain a temperature that is better for my cars and won't allow my auto detailing chemicals to freeze. My only option seems to be electric infrared heaters. I've installed one infrared 1500W heater and it seems to keep the garage just above 50 degrees when it's cold out. I plan to install another one on the other side of the garage (on a separate circuit) in hopes that the two of them might be able to maintain the garage temp at around 60 degrees, which I'd be fine with. Yes, I will have a higher electric bill from December through March, but that's just how it is unless I go to the expense of installing a 240v power line and get a more powerful heater, or install a mini-split. The heaters I got are also WiFi and are programmable via an app on my phone. I was able to setup rules to run the heater at different levels depending on outside temperature, or turn the heater off if the outside temp is above 50 degrees. The important thing is to make sure you garage is somewhat well insulated, including garage doors and any windows, so that it keeps the cold air out and keeps the warm air in. I insulated my garage doors a couple of weeks ago and plan to insulate my garage windows this weekend. It was 23 degrees outside last night and my garage stayed between 50 and 55 degrees, with the heater running intermittently to maintain that.

    Do you have any issues with the 20lb tank rather than than 100lb? I really only want to Run it when it gets close to Below freezing in the garage

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 7 місяців тому

      No issues at all. only difference is that the 100lb will last you a bit longer. I run mine constantly for 2-3 hours a day and im usually good for a 2-ish months. Just remember, your time on either size tank will depends on how the insulation is in your garage, how big it is, and how big of a change in temperature you want. Cheers!

    To be clear. LPG (liquid propane gas) is odorless. They put mercaptan in it so that if there's a leak, you'll be able to smell it. That's the odor he's referring to. It's also heavier than air. CO (carbon monoxide) is odorless, that's why you need a CO meter to detect it. It's also lighter than air so the meter shouldn't be placed near the floor.

    im looking at buying one of these. question thought. if you have it turned up all the way. how close can you stand up to it without it being extremely hot? The reason im asking is, where i am wanting to install it, my bass boat sits about 3ft away from it.

    • @carlosistribe
      @carlosistribe 11 місяців тому

      Great question. i believe the manual says 24-36 inches from whatever is directly in front of it and at least 18 inches above it must be free. if its an aluminum boat with nothing flammable in the immediate area, its risky, but your call. if its a fiberglass hull, i wouldnt run that risk at all. What i did was install it about 4.5ft up on the wall and had a fan above it as shown in the video. and it works extremely well. There is another video on my channel going over a review after a year. hope that helps!

      @carlosistribe Рік тому

      Hi, Cathy! not sure what you mean exactly by space heaters. But if you mean the electrical ones that plug into a normal outlet at home, those in terms of cost, is the least feasible for a garage that isnt well insulated and of this size. Trust me, i tried. I had four 1500 watt space heaters lol barely moved the temperature up 3-4 degrees. And thats not taking into account the sky rocketing of my electrical bill for those two months. hahahaha

      Depends how long the heater itself has to run to warm the room. The smaller the room the longer a tank will last bc the heater won’t be on for very long at a time. The larger the room the more gas needed to heat it.
