THREE NEW WAYS to start your next meeting!
The first five minutes of any meeting set the tone for the rest of the time spent together. #Icebreakers get a bad rep, but they don't have to be long, convoluted, or childish!
In this video, we break down 4 processes that you can use to get REAL answers to the generic question, "How's everyone doing today?"
👉 Get your deck of Facilitator Cards here! shop.facilitator.cards/
Will you use one of these processes for your next check-in? Let us know which one in the comments!
🗣️ Declarative Pairs - use the sentence stem “Today I’m feeling…” and have everyone respond to their partner for one minute straight
⏰ Minute Papers - have everyone write for one minute in response to, “How are you feeling going into this meeting?”
⭐️ Fill In The Gap “Today I am feeling ___, but also ____.”
🤔 Thinking & Feeling, “One thing you’re thinking and one thing you’re feeling going into this meeting today.”

    Hey, thank you for featuring my Zoom plugin for Stream Deck! I wanted to pop in and leave a note that the Zoom plugin is retired and succeeded by MuteDeck, which can be found on the Elgato Marketplace, and has a standalone app with much more stability and features than the old Zoom plugin. Just FYI. 😊

    I love all the products (cards, blog, videos) you offer and just wanted to let you know that I recommend them to others all the time, and continue to come back to them myself year after year. I just checked to see if you are still doing zoom calls, I couldn't find that information or link - but I loved those as well.

    I guess this video is over a year old but I just found it searching "better zoom meetings". You do a very good job of teaching and showing value for the technology. I am 68 years old and I have participated in terrible zoom meetings that turned me off to working virtual, your video kept me from giving up on virtual work. I can't wait to check out all of your videos. Thank you so much for showing us how to put " pay attention " into virtual work.

    Have you had an experience where OBS or Stream Deck failed during a workshop? If not, do you have a plan if the tech fails? ...and thank you for creating this video. It's a great teaching resource.

    • @FacilitatorCards
      @FacilitatorCards Рік тому

      Oooo great question. I've had OBS fail... and generally speaking I can just go back to screen sharing when that happens. Most of the time restarting my computer fixes it and I usually catch and glitches before the workshop starts. Never had stream deck fail but if that happened everything it's doing I can do with a mouse or copy and pasting so it's not essential i just makes everything more smooth!

    Great video! So am I understanding correctly that you're spotlighting yourself (or having the host spotlight you if you're not the host) instead of hitting "share screen" and choosing the Mmhmm virtual camera? They both can work I guess... is there a difference/benefit either way?

    • @FacilitatorCards
      @FacilitatorCards 11 місяців тому

      Hi there! Yes I'm spotlighting myself and then sharing all my slides in mmhmm. I find screen shares disorienting, i think they unconsciously indicate to participants to check out, and i find them to be hard to be present in because people are seeing something different than i'm seeing so i like to continuity of having my slides in my screen it feels more fluid and seemless

    • @kplicanic
      @kplicanic 11 місяців тому

      @@FacilitatorCards Agreed! The problem I'm having is that apps like Zoom aren't optimized unless in screen share mode.... so if I'm demonstrating software like Photoshop, the menus look blurry unless I'm specifically in Screenshare mode.... which means.... I end up not being able to take advantage of all the fun features of mmhmm and ecamm, etc.... Apparently you can request full hd from Zoom, but..... I can't control that when I'm presenting at events hosted by others..... It's a bummer. Is there something I'm missing that magically solves this?

    • @FacilitatorCards
      @FacilitatorCards 11 місяців тому

      gotcha!@@kplicanic well my best thought on this would be to make the most of the times you're screen sharing, ask people to annotate your screen share occasionally like have them put stamps on a "strongly agree to strongly disagree" line to make it interactive and then maybe there are moments where you need to reference photoshop but don't need the full clarity and to use mmhmm or ecamm in those

    Just got my stream deck. This was a great overview. I loved the text shortcuts, but, wanted it to put the focus on Zoom, open chat, type the note. So, I created a multi-action, (open zoom, cmd-H, text). Worked great the 1st time, but - the cmd to open chat is also the same as close chat. So, if chat was open - it closed it, and lost the keystrokes... Uggg... Any ideas?

    • @yomeg895
      @yomeg895 Рік тому

      Hey Clark... well my suggestion honestly wouldn't be to create a multi action. I personally click a button on the stream deck to open the chat and then put all the text files on separate buttons to sorta avoid that closing/open problem. I realize that's not ideal because if you're in a different program you're having to focus on zoom, then hit the chat open and then the thing but that's the most reliable way I do it is one button programed to open the chat and then a separate for the text

For us we mostly are training other trainers, facilitators, and educators, most of whom are using Zoom for their work and so we want to be using the platform our clients are using (which is mostly Zoom) Butter does have some cool stuff but it just hasn't been *enough* of a reason for us to keep the switch for most of our work
