I watch American Blackout and it's predicespredecessor UK Blackout once every 2 years or so...just to revisit and get a kick in the pants. These movies started my prepping journey and 3 years ago we went without power for 11 days. We moved to the country prior (as part of our preps) but we are on a well and it was winter so the solar didn't work. Learned a TON of lessons and luckily we were very prepared...our biggest hurdle? boredom at night. We didn't have enough to do in the evening and the nights were long since this was January. Most of my books are non-fiction (how to manuals) and reference most of my fun reading was on my Kindle but not yet downoaded. Our gas stations and cell service were out of power too (it was a city wide phenphenomenon during winter Ice stroms. Anyway I digress, I think everyone should watch both Blackout Movies, ifyou haven't seen the UK version it's still on YT for free and the American Blackout is still for free on Vimeo.

Nothing ever happens. On a more serious note, I live in Houston Texas. Seems like we've been having at least one SHTF a year for almost a decade now. Hurricanes and Derechos smashing buildings, putting millions without power, and causing historic amounts of flooding. Arctic blasts knocking down the entire states power grid. Droughts and heat domes for months and months on end. With Beryl a few weeks back, I was honestly surprised at just how many of my neighbors were prepared to ride out the insanity. I remember a decade ago only a few of my neighbors even had generators. Now, at least 50% of my neighbors have generators, and the fuel to run them, and stored water and food. At this point I suppose the real insanity are the few people who still live like nothing ever happens.

I have had a couple SHTF moments in my life already. I was laid off from job with a 6 month pregnant wife, another time I was injured working my rural property & spent 2 week in the hospital & 3 months off work. These are a few of the reasons I put financial prepping so high in my priorities.

OH man, if these had been around in the early 2000's when I was really into backpacking, this would have been amazing for heating up some Mountain House in my tent. But, today, in 2024, these are going in my camping gear, my disaster prep kit, and this will come with me to work every so often to heat up tasty left-overs. I love when we put science to work for us.

This would be great on the long soccer tournament days.

I think you're missing the pretty significant aspect of practice, training, and sighting in your weapons when it comes to your reasoning. 10,000 rounds of 22lr isn't so you can kill 10,000 squirrels. It's so you can teach members of your community how to use a firearm or practicing your own shooting. Same with pistol rounds. Your relatives or neighbors that never thought they'd need a gun are going to need to learn somehow. If you're prepping for yourself--someone who clearly already knows how to shoot--then your needs will be different from someone who is prepping for a community or family.

I am no survivalist, much more of a preparer. As I prepare, I prepare for the most likely event. Financial preparedness is critical part of my plan.

If anyone needs 100 thousand rounds of ammo, you probably are not going to survive! Maybe if you have a large family or group of people with you. I did 3 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. I just can't see people surviving an SHTF event that will be able to sustain a fight or many fights that takes 100 thousand plus rounds of ammo.

We haven't had the product (Patriot's) for long enough to be able to say whether it's a good product long term or not, but after we got it, we did have a short power outage, and so just testing it out for that short amount of time, I was able to run 2 fans since I live in an area that gets hot during the summer and a lot of times during the early fall, and it worked out great for that (so far). We also used the generator to power our fridge for a while, and it worked ok for that too. So with the small amount of time we were able to test it out, so far it worked good (if that helps any). I'd like to add that they DO say that you don't run your fridge off the generator constantly, but run it for say an hour, and then turn the generator off for 3 or 4 hours etc. over and over, but don't run it constantly with no breaks. I'm thinking about maybe in the future buying a small fridge off amazon, because I think that would be a better fit for the generator though.

Excellent real word testing! I prefer solid panels over the soft foldable panels. My power stations will accept up to 400 watts, which means I hook up to 600 watts of panels to get 400.

I feel like the inverter is using more power on standby than the freezer. You have the space, why not put some big panels up?
