How good is 845 looking so far??
Will the f class make a return
Will the f-class return?
Happy new year steam rangers
Living down on the south coast, I regularly see drivers and pedestrians pushing their luck with the Steamranger trains. Some did not make it. 😵☠
Hey steamranger!, got a question why do you guys not use the f class?
I'm not from Steamranger, but as far as I know, the F class will return some day. They have a constant rotation of locos regularly going in and out of maintenance, with most hours given to keeping the current fleet running smoothly, while others are given more intensive overhauls. While all this is happening, there are always new additions of heritage locos, railcars and rolling stock being refurbished for future use. When I was a kid in the late 60s, Steamranger (then the ARHS SA Division) had only 4 steam locos. Today they have 5 steam, 7 diesel, 10 railcars, and I don't know how many pieces of passenger rolling stock and freight wagons. Like you I look forward to seeing the F class back on the rails again. It's only a matter of time. 😊
Our F class has moved into our main shed at Mount Barker. Though it is still awaiting restoration.
@@SteamRanger thank you
@@SteamRanger where was it before and why does it need restoration
@ameliaweston1570 Prior to 1988 F251 was plinthed at Elizabeth Shopping Centre. Until SteamRanger got it and restored it. It was fully restored to operation in 1995, where it was used to run shuttles around the Adelaide Metro and Barossa. It was last in service in the year 2000. It's on the list but does need a bit of work to get going again.
Merry Xmas & BIG thank you to all Steamranger volunteers!
Even though it is an add I still love watching there videos
Ad was worth it, also is 621 ever gonna be green and cream again?
Since it is named The Duke of Edinburgh, I wonder if it was repainted black as a mark of respect after the death of Prince Phillip?
621 was originally painted Hawthorn Green with Silver stripes in 1936 for the states Centenary. From 1946 to 1969 it was painted in the current Black livery. From 1971 till 2020 621 was painted Hawthorn Green with Yellow and Black lining (S.A.R Special Livery) though 621 never actually had this livery during the S.A.R days it was used on other locomotives from No. 605, to Rx234 and a few others. 621 currently is representing the 1950s/1960s of the S.A.R.
@@SteamRanger interesting you should put some of this stuff in the puff puff club newsletter I will be there at the end of January I will be videoing

It certainly does!
Wheres the brill 60 railcar and 621 i haven't seen them run in a while
621 has just been put back on its wheels and should return in the future. Brill 60 isn't far away from returning either. Currently under minor restoration.
@@Makataka_trains we are hoping to have 207, 224 & 621 all in steam at Railfest.
If I’m correct, the 520 is the fastest steam locomotive type in the country, isn’t it? 78mph is its top speed
Nope. Both 520 and 621 reached max speed of 78mph with 500 tons load. so, they might have gone a bit quicker with less load. However, there's others much quicker and those are the heavy Pacific 600 class from SAR system, and possibly S class from Victoria. They can and did go a lot faster BUT due to track restrictions, never officially documented.
@@Makataka_trains no, you're wrong by a mile. Instead of using from your fantasies, on record both 620 and 520 class did 78mph. Of course one tends of be slower off the start, depending on condition and load but back to the days they did 78mph. That is on record, not with your own wildest fantasies you dildo. Of course, theres rumours whatsoever one did a bit faster with lighter load.... and for the fastest steam locomotive in Australia? Sorry you're wrong. Haven't you forgotten the SAR 600 class? Or are you just a kid still playing with Thomas the Tank engine? 3801 is fast, but not as fast as SAR 600 class. Full stop.
@@Makataka_trains Sound like you have absolutely no knowledge about SAR locos except what you see with your fantasies. Officially during running trial both 620 and 520 class did 78mph. Of course with condition, loadings one can get up quickly than the others. Both with identical boiler pressure and driver wheels so that leaves their power output and weight the deciding factor. Of course they can go a bit quicker with less loadings than they did on their official run 80-90 years ago....at least 85 or 90mph but they are just rumours. Nothing else. As for the fastest steam locomotive it seems you know nothing else except playing with your toy trains. U reckon 3801 is the fastest, oh yeah the streamline does it for you whoo hoo. Sure it is quick BUT not the quickest. Try SAR 600 class heavy Pacific but I guess you’re just a kid not to know that yet. Widely documented but severely frowned on they did more than 90....on a railway system with a max speed of 70. So yeah, THEREFORE you are.....ha ha....so wrong.
A superbly photographed, edited and produced piece.
My favourite engine 621 such ab beauty such a shame its balck now
Hi
What year will 520 will be done
They say about 2-3 years
Such a travesty that the track wasn't dual gauge to Mt Barker Junction, which would allow Steam Ranger to run occasionally between Adelaide - Mt Barker - Victor Harbor. It would be the greatest heritage train trips in the country. I still have fond memories of doing that trip. Even if it was a 2 day trip with overnight accommodation in Victor.
My folks still live near Sleeps Hill tunnel... Sundays in early 90s, you hear Sir Malcom or the Duke heading to Victor. Was magic to do this run from Keswick. A long but rewarding day.
Would the 520 run on the Cockle Train Line, or Port Adelaide's Museum site (where I think 520 engine sits rusting)
When 520 returns it will be running on our line from Mount Barker to Victor Harbour. 520 "Sir Malcolm Barclay-Harvey" is located up at our Mount Barker Depot currently under restoration: www.fireup520.org/ The locomotive at the National Railway Museum, Port Adelaide is a Sister engine to 520, No. 523 "Essington Lewis".
Whatever happened to the Essington Lewis, it was working up until 2004
@@LukeWatson99523 last ran on October 14th 1968 where she failed at Balhannah and 526 took over the train to Victor Harbor. She became an exhibit at the Mile End Railway Museum and then moved to Port Adelaide
@@LukeWatson99 @maxhighet4447 523 last ran on the 14th of October 1968 when it failed at Balhannah on an ARHS Tour "Victor Vulcan". 526 "Duchess of Gloucester" came to the rescue and continued hauling the train. 523 never ran again after that trip and entered the Mile End Railway Museum on the 28th of November 1968. In theory 523 would need to same job as 520 a full restoration.
When will 520 be back
You will never see any of the current SA travel TV shows produce anything that beautiful.
Sucks that the 520 is out of service.
www.fireup520.org/
@@Makataka_trains It is always possible (however likely/unlikely) that the south line could be gauge-converted to broad-standard dual gauge to Mt Barker Junction or beyond - then it would be possible for steamranger to run trains beyond mt barker again
@@liammatthews5656no if they ran from Adelaide they would change the gauge of 520 (because she can be) and would run 520 from Adelaide to Mt Barker then 621 to Victour Harbour
@@IAmManYT It is a good idea, so therefore it will not happen
@@aussie_trainspotting_videos theoretically it can happen if they have money

@@Super_trainspotter12 well damn
@@Super_trainspotter12 I reckon 2 years before its back in steam
@@Super_trainspotter12it’s 2025 still no news about when it could be finished
Awesome, thanks.
F251 should be eventually restored, because it is best suited to the current line from Mt Barker to Victor Harbour.
I'd love to see the F running around, but realistically it's not suited to SHR's current operations out of Barker unless it's assisted by something else. It'll be perfect down South.
When 520 is restored there better be some big cool thing like this
This is some really cool stuff, she looks great in that red and gold heritage paint! Love to see the work that goes into restoring these brilliant machines.
