Wool Applique Stitch Along (Beth tries Block Three)
In today's video my daughter in law Beth steps in for the third block in our work with Wonderfil's 2024 wool applique "block of the month". This episode is the robin, and Beth is showing her version while I'm out for medical treatment. As with the previous blocks, while this was designed for hand applique, we're demonstrating stitching it by machine. BTW, this like most of my videos is indexed, so if you need to review a particular section, look at the table of contents below and the links will take you directly to the section you want. I think I finally have that feature working properly.
Music: Music is a tough issue to balance. Some people find background music distracting, while others find regular machine/background noises distracting. In this video we've tried to minimize it for the central part of the video, except placing the appliques where the work is too quiet, so long periods of awkward silence would otherwise be unavoidable. Let me know what you think and we can decide how to use it in future videos. Also, the music in my videos comes from Epidemic Sound: www.epidemicsound.com/

Also, the supplies I have listed below for this stitch library are Amazon affiliate links. If you use them to purchase your supplies, I will get a small amount, but it will not increase your costs. Nevertheless, these are my favorites for this kind of work.

Borders for a Special Quilt (Using Silk)
Переглядів 397Рік тому
In today's video I share some of the careful process of sample testing I go through in making a quilt for shows or competition, focusing today on quilting designs for borders for a special art quilt made entirely of silk fabric. The central part of the quilt is something I've been working on for a while, and I need just the right borders to match, so today I have my daughter in law Beth on with...
Designing a Fall Table Runner (to fit many tables)
Переглядів 130Рік тому
In today's video I'm talking about the design process I went through coming up with a fall table runner for my son and his wife, which also became a project for this channel. The key trick was making a design to fit both longer and shorter tables. Plus it gave me a chance to make some fun custom embroidery. The pattern and in the hoop embroidery designs are free and available on my website, and...
Evergreen Landscape Quilt Completed (With "AI" Help)

In this video I'll finish the landscape quilting how-to project we began in my last video, focusing on evergreen trees. I ended up making it one of my biggest videos ever, loaded up with new content like design ideas for evergreen trees, couching yarn, a way to use thread painting as an "applique" treatment, and even some binding tips. And in this video, my tongue in cheeck "artificial intellig...

In today's video I'll introduce some new techniques for landscape quilting, and start on a skillbuilding project with mountains and evergreen trees. This one packs a lot in, on planning landscape quilts, color models for landscapes, turned edge applique, and more. And from some past responses, I'm bringing back my tongue in cheek "artificial intelligence" character, Odette. Disclaimer: This vid...
Speaking about Quilts.... (at a local quilt store)
Переглядів 284Рік тому
Today's video is a recording of a live presentation on several of my quilts and how I made them that I gave at a local quilt shop run by a friend I've known quite a while. It includes some quilts I haven't shown on my channel before, like one I made in honor of my mother, using some crochet squares she had made. It was recorded live, and the audience wasn't equipped with the same kind of microp...

Making a Needlebook (With "AI" Help)

In today's video we'll have a little fun making a small needlebook project, with the help of "artificial" artificial intelligence, purely tongue in cheek. Odette, by the way, is my Bernina 880 plus machine. This one is just for fun, so I hope you enjoy. I have to give a shout out to Josh Yeo whose @MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL video on fake AI helped figure out how to make my sewing machine Odette a chara...

Great video! Thank you for all the tips, love your videos!
Why not use free motion for tight spaces?
Free motion is a fine use in many ways in making such quilts.
I am a fan of all your wonderful videos! Thankyou!
Could you please tell me which decorative stitch you use for binding on your bernina? Thx! I love watching your videos! And, we both love Bernina. Do you have the 990 yet?
I think the right answer to your question is to note that I am using blanket stitch 1329 in my 20D foot. It is one of my favorites. You can see more about this in the first of these Fall Table runner quilt concepts. I do love my three Berninas and I use my Bernina 880 plus a lot for this kind of project. I do not plan to buy the 990 because my 880 plus is such a great machine and I own it completely and do not at this time need to purchase the expensive 990. I have obtained a lot of great feet at this point. I have some friends who have much smaller Berninas with lots of great uses too. There is so much to learn and use at this time. I hope you continue to enjoy these things.
Fantastic Tutorial.
Glad you liked this. Cheers.
Thank you so much Beth. I am getting much better and have had a very excellent result from my head surgery that is now healing well. I really appreciate my sweet Beth's assistance here so much. She has some really advanced and interesting work on this project and I so enjoy seeing what she has been and is doing. She is a fabulous quilter overall. Cheers everyone.
Most excellent video of your process and great tips!
Thank you! 😀
Fabric solvy is that the water solvable one?
Yes-- I think that is the answer you want. Cheers
Really great !
Thank you!
You did a fantastic job explaining everything thoroughly😊. Hope that Betty Jo is feeling better. God bless😊❤🙏
Thanks so much
Hi! I loved watching this! I am making a larger similar project.
Super. I would love to see your project. Send pictures (BettyJo@bjfabricartist.com)
Oh wow! This video is an eye opener for me. Ideas are just popping through my brain….lol…😆…..I have got to practice this so I can try some of them out!!
Thank you! Be sure to ask if you have any questions.
Feel better soon Betty Jo ❤️
Great job! Thank you so much for posting this, great idea's on the stitches, you inspire me! Sending good thoughts to Betty Jo.
❤❤❤
Thank you!
I bought so many of the accuquilt go borders...because at the time, i really didnt know how to cut very accurately, and the shop where i buy supplies had all the accuquilt supplies on sale.
I love accuquilt go and use it a lot. I also use my Brother Scan and Cut for cutting appliques. I bought my accuquilt dies at quilt shows where they are usually on sale.
My goodness! What a cute idea to use AI. How do you program that? Into your video?
LOL...my oldest son is my video editor. He did it. It is not real AI, but I don't know what he used.
I also love Bernina machines! What do you think of the new 990?
I think it is a major advance in sewing technology. However, it is out of my price range. I wrote a blog about it if you are interested, bjfabricartist.com/blog/f/sewing-technological-advances
Is your brown background fabric wool or a blend,?
It is 100 percent woven felted wool.
I love to work with wool!
Me too. It is an amazing fabric,
Thank you, I loved that Beth is helping. I also bury my threads, makes it look much cleaner. Thanks also for giving the stitch number info, it really inspires me to try my stitches.
So glad you liked it. I think this whole BOM project is a great way to use some of those fabulous decorative stitches and technology in our machines we have now. Cheers.
Thank you! I love it!! I also learned a lot, thx again.
You're welcome! I am so glad. :D
Looks good! Thanks for all the tips!
You're welcome. More to come soon...sorry I'm so slow.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Love this. Would it be possible to sneak a look at the completed quilt. Just to tempt us😊
Oh I would love to do that, but I haven't gotten there yet. They have the first four block patterns out they are free, so I am a little behind but hoping to catch up quickly. I am about two thirds through the video for block 2,. I am planning on including the finishing of the quilt in this series. We'll see if I can share the pdf of the overall plan in one of my blogs soon. Cheers.
Thank you😊. Love the way you open up with a cuppa. Only way to start a project.
Hi Suzette, I finally got the blog written that has the plan showing all twelve blocks. It is not a completed quilt but you can get the idea. I don't know how they plan on finishing it, but I am thinking about what I want to do with it in the end. The blocks are delightful though. Cheers. bjfabricartist.com/blog/f/finally-a-bit-of-progress
Thank you so much for sending the picture of the finished blocks. I was saddened to hear that you were in hospital. I hope you are recovering and resting up. Good to hear you are drinking lots of water( yes it is not the same as a nice cup of tea but it keep you healthy). God bless😀🙏

Keep on stitching 🤺💐

Hello Betty Jo, I received my wool from Amazon last week so I will be ready when you begin. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Oh that's exciting. We finished videoing the first block yesterday and it is possible that the first one will be edited and published very soon. My oldest son is doing the video editior. He thinks he can maybe get it out tonight or later this week although he has a regular job too, so it is not a guarantee that may happen. Neverheless we are veru hopeful we will get caught up with the Wonderfil schedule quickly. Please let me know if you have some questions.
Hi gailthecrafter. I wanted you to know that my videos have been a little delayed for unexpected medical reasons that are being nicely resolved. Their is one small thing to be fixed on te video that will likely be out on Sunday evening with subsequent blocks coming much more rapidly. Blessings. I love the way the first block ended up and look forward to sharing it. Cheers
I hope you saw I finally got block one out. The following blocks should not take so long from here. Be sure to ask any questions you may have.
Hi, did you catch that I have block 2 video out? Block 3 won't be far behind. Sorry I am behind...it's been a year.
I signed at Wonderfil fo the BOM, which promises free patterns. How can I get them? I have received nothing from Wonderfil except a welcome email.
If you go to their block of the month group on facebook they have a chat that you can join on "how to download the patterns". That should help you out. It seems multiple people have had problems with the patterns. Let me know if it doesn'[t work and maybe I can do something. Cheers
@@bettyjotatum6115 After I wrote the comment, I re-read the welcome email and there they were, the first two patterms were there! Question, I am not liking the felt sky blue background. Would think using else would be okay? I was thinking fabric with a thick interfacing on the back. That way I could use different designs, maybe seasonal. BTW, I don't use any social media, no FB, no Instagram, and so on. YT and blogs is all I do.
Oh I am glad you found them. Yes, a nice solid quilting cotton with a Pellon fusible interfacing would work fine for the background blocks. I don't blame you about the social media, though I do like specific groups on Facebook related to things like the Wonderfil BOM. The BLOG and this YT comments should be sufficient for this project. Sometimes I also put downloadable pdf files on my website shop (they would be free for this project). Cheers.
"You can't go very fast at all." LOL Much faster than hand stitching and not so many stitch endings to reload a hand needle with more thread. Love your music also.
LOL...Thank you!
Thank you! This is so helpful and exactly what I was looking for.
You are welcome! I am planning on some new wool applique projects soon.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Please share the name of your feather stencil. I can’t seem to find it with the links. Thanks! Love your work!
Hi Sharon. Thank you. I added the link in the description box below the video just now. It is also linked in the workbook/pattern available in my shop, also linked. It is called Feathered Corners stencil from Quilting Creations International.
So beautiful, love the texture!
Thank you Susan! Cheers.
How did I miss this video? Thank you, Betty Jo. ❤
My pleasure! Glad you saw it now. Cheers.
Absolutely beautiful!! I have learned a lot with you. Thank you so much for sharing your art with us and I love your videos too.😘😘❤❤❤❤❤

You are amazing, love your videos!!!
Thank you!🙂
Wow! Your talent is impressive. I love looking at your collection of quilts! Bravo
Thank you so much!
fabulous, thank you. I am currently trying to include watercolor painting in my quilts.
You are welcome! There is a lot to consider when adding such painting to a quilt...it is very interesting and fun.
I was so thrilled to run into your you tube this morning. It was like finding a kindred spirit.@@bettyjotatum6115
Great video quality 👏 thank you!
You're welcome! Part 2 will be out soon.
Accomplished art quilter is an understatement! The AI component is fun; since many people talk to their sewing machines it is only right that they talk back!
LOL...Thanks Suzan. Odette is quite a diva...LOL
I can see that u are getting more comfortable and creative in front of the camera Betty Jo. Well done.
Why thank you Carla! So happy you watched it. Wait until you see the rest of the project. :D
What a cool technique!
Thanks.
What a joy it is to hear you share your stories and see your quilts. They are true works of art. Thank you so much.
Thank you! You are most welcome.
So fun to hear you talk about your amazing artwork!!
Thank you Suzan! I enjoyed the presentation. It was damp that day and my hair went every which direction and I was disappointed in the shirt, but the video seems pretty good otherwise. Everyone there seemed to enjoy it.
Hi Betty Jo. I'm excited to see what you have for us. ❤
I hope you will like it. :D
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank yoy.
Oops, Thank you!
