Well, why and why more times over should it be war, if literally everyone have the clean, free and indefinite energy at their disposal you may ask.. Well, that also is my thoughts on that matter. Water as a new natural energy would also set off an genocidal resource war since flesh water is a finite source; entire ethnic groups would be wiped out over disputes about scarce water being corporatly repurposed for fuel. A similar genocide is happening to native Amazonian tribesmen whose farmland is being stolen by global corporations, to make palm oil products and farm McDonald's Beef.

wars will be fought over what? the main source of wars today is resources. Free energy would just lead to a post scarcity economy after some restructuring. Ok the stock market may crash (only some companies pertaining to energy production like oil companies) but so what? energy will be free, who cares. Other companies will be fine. What, is little caesars gonna go broke because of free energy? is your local grocery store gonna go bankrupt? no! ppl still want to eat. If anything they will make more money as now they dont have to pay huge prices for energy. Energy being cheap or free will positively impact damn near every industry. And petroleum industry isnt gonna disappear because petroleum is still used in many chemical processes. There will be an initial shock followed by adaptation and restructuring and overall positive movement for humanity.
