Waiting for my budget mandolin to arrive from eBay. Been a somewhat banjo picker for 30 years so I’m planing on some success here. I am a Vietnam combat veteran and very deaf. The mandolins higher sounds and tones are most comparable with my hearing aids sound reproduction. I learned from tablature… is there tab for mandolin? I did subscribe and thumbs up.

i put the mandolin aside for the day and picked up the bouzouki. i have two song books for GDAD tuning i got from Amazon.

I just found your channel this week, and you offer so many excellent ideas, thoughts, ways to study and learn the mandolin. Your presentation is excellent and is conveyed clearly. I wish i had these videos when i first started, they would have removed 2 years of poorly learned skills, that i had to go back and clean up/remove. Looking forward to watching every video and learning new things and in a better way to practice. Thank you for your time and effort with all this.

i own a really really nice bouzouki and i don't play it because I'm too busy with the mandolin and guitar. i think tomorrow I'll pull it out for a spin. that mandolin sounds really nice!

Yes, I have an octave mandolin. I have a whole set of "mandos" Including mandola, mandocello, both Irish and greek bouzoukis. I'm a guitarist, and own and play any instrument with strings and frets. Also Hammered dulcimer. Anyway, I'm 70 years old and have played for over 52 years, Great video! Oh, don't ask me about my fipple flute collection.

Hi Emma. When playing the pentatonic scale over the 4 chord, what do we do about the root note, since that is not in the scale? Or do we play an F- pentatonic scale over the F chord? I know, I overthink things 😂

I got a tenor uke and put guitar strings on it tuned to G D A E sounds just like octave!!!!

I will never understand why a Mandolin exists. It's a horrible sounding Instrument. It always sounds out of tune. Even Banjos are more appealing than a Mandolin. On a Violin you can play all kind of music styles, but a Mandolin is limited to a few styles. For me, a Mandolin belongs to Folk, Bluegrass or Country but not more.

Im really interested in an octave mandolin , id love to see a video from you comparing an Octive Mandolin compared to a Bouzouki ..🤞

Speaking as someone who plays both standard and octave mandolin, I can confirm that this is not an easy tune on the octave mandolin. Great Job!

Great lesson but I'm confused. The lesson's "A" form's root is on the E string so wouldn't we call that the "E form"? And the lesson's "E" from's root is on the A string so it should be the "A form"?? Anywho... thanks for the lesson and your "mandolin exercise for speed and articulation" is really really good.

Beautiful work, however, in addition to being used in folk and bluegrass music Bach, Vivaldi and other baroque composers wrote for the mandolin long before the advent of those genres.

Hi Emma- I kinda figured out chords for Moody Blues- I know you're out there somewhere - but how would I write the embellishes? Maybe you can help with this song- or maybe write a simple embelishment so we can learn to do this ourselves. Thank you for all you do for this community.
