We're diving deep into the latest and greatest overlanding and off-roading products revealed at this year’s SEMA show. From innovative storage solutions to rugged gear that'll take your adventures to the next level, we’ve got an amazing lineup of products and companies to explore. Let’s get into it!
EX 4x4:
First up, we checked out EZ 4x4, which showcased a ton of exciting overlanding products. Their focus on aluminum construction is a game-changer for off-road durability. Aluminum not only resists rust but is also lightweight, making it ideal for the rough demands of overlanding. Their Alpha Doors have a few clever features, like removable interior panels and MOLLE compatibility, allowing you to easily customize and attach various accessories. Plus, the adjustable settings on the doors help prevent rattling as they age - perfect for keeping things quiet on those long drives.
EZ4x4 also displayed their Extreme Trunk - an upgraded version of their standard trunk with added panels and gas struts, making it a secure, convenient storage solution. It’s built for off-roaders who need easy access without compromising safety, especially for those who are vertically challenged or have less upper body strength. And with integrated locks and a tailgate table for camping, this setup is ideal for both hardcore off-roaders and weekend warriors alike.
Unplug Outdoor Co:
Unplug Outdoor Co. showed off a variety of off-road and camping essentials, including their four-tire air system and air compressors. These products are built to handle tough conditions and duty cycles and make airing up a breeze - a must-have for serious off-road adventures.
Unplug Outdoor Co. also displayed a truck camper topper. Designed in-house, these camper toppers are lightweight at only 285 pounds and are customized to fit various truck models with precision. At a competitive price of around $6,000, these toppers offer an affordable entry point for those looking to get into overlanding without breaking the bank. With features like heater ports, large windows, and MOLLE panels, this camper is designed for both comfort and function, whether you’re heading into the mountains or setting up at a desert campsite.
One of the coolest things Unplug Outdoor Co. offers is a lifetime warranty on their campers and rooftop tents. They’ve truly designed these products to last, and if anything goes wrong, they’ve made repairs easy with only three tools required. Talk about peace of mind on the road!
Wild Land:
Then we headed over to Wild Land to check out their Wingman Camper, which brings some unique features to the camping world. This camper weighs about 500 pounds and comes with a built-in battery to power its motors. With a load capacity of an additional 450 pounds, this is a versatile option for overlanders needing a lightweight but strong setup.
Wild Land also showcased a line of storage boxes made of aluminum and bamboo - ideal for anyone looking for durable and eco-friendly storage options. With various sizes and configurations, these boxes allow for maximum organization and style.
Overland Vehicle Systems
We also got a close look at the OVS line of expedition campers, which come fully assembled right out of the crate! These stainless-steel campers weigh just over 300 pounds. OVS also showcased their collapsible soft truck toppers. One of the standout features in this series is the collapsible truck topper, which allows you to fully access your truck bed even with the camper in place. This setup is perfect for those who want to switch between an overlanding rig and a regular truck bed as needed.
Expedition Caps: Customizable, Modular Storage for Any Adventure
Finally, we took a tour of Expedition Caps and their range of modular storage solutions. These caps offer everything from pull-out drawer systems to integrated shelving, allowing you to tailor your setup to fit your needs. The cap includes portal windows and glass options, so you can get some fresh air or enjoy the view while camping. With the addition of rooftop rails for tents or awnings, this setup provides a versatile base for any overlanding vehicle.
One of the great things about the Expedition Cap setup is that it's fully customizable. You can start with the foundation and add more shelves, drawers, or even a workstation as you go. It’s a modular design that adapts to your changing needs, whether you’re heading out for a weekend camping trip or need a mobile workstation for off-the-grid work projects.
Suparee:
Lastly we visited with our friends over at Suparee. They offer a wide range of lights for Jeep, Dodge, Ford, and Toyota. They were showing off a number of new designs so be sure to check them out.

It's a rough 12 miles to get to Sheep Bridge. No views or fun obstacles along the way.
Found this video today after my 2021 wouldn't start. Doing this tomorrow hopefully the main battery is still good since jeep ony has 18,000 miles. It ran all day and restarted after I jumped it.
What are the pros and cons over this type of burner versus using 1/2” pipe with holes drilled?
I thought about going that route, but felt the burner was easier, safer, and you can adjust air flow.
What year is this JL? They supposedly reversed these terminals but not sure what year you are working on.
Mine is a 2021.
I've got a 2020 Wrangler my start stop light is always on. Replaced the aux battery and light went out for a little while but came back on. Tried this and removed the correct fuse checked it more than twice. Removed the one cable it wouldn't start. Tried the other cable wouldn't start. I just have the light on I don't get the message stop/start unavailable. With fuse out no light but with the cable hooked up is it still drawing from the aux battery on normal start up?
If the cable is still hooked up, I'd assume it's still drawing for the aux battery on start up.
Good vid- straight to the point.... but, it didn't work for me. Still getting the stop/start warning light and message. Wondering if my Tazer Lite is somehow a problem. I use it to keep the S/S permanently disabled.
I've got the Tazer JL Mini and it works to disable the start stop. I'd check error codes and see if you can further troubleshoot it from there
I went in through the fuse box and removed the aux battery on my 2020 JTR. Connected its hot lead to the main battery positive and wrapped up the negative lead from the aux battery. Start stop works fine but can be turned off by the dash button. Didn’t want to carry a dead battery around forever.
Yeah. At some point I'll go in and pull the old aux battery
Do you know if this would work on a 2022 Jeep Renegade? The jeep is only 2 years old and the stupid thing always says its charging. When it was working its beyond annoying. I can only imagine the engine damage caused by this stupid feature down the road and starter damage as well.
I'm honestly not sure on the Renegades. I tried to find spent that worked like the ZAutomotive Tazer JL Mini. But I didn't see anything for the 2022 Renegade.
Best, straightforward video that doesn't waste our time. THANKS!
Thanks!
Did this and light still comes on! When I did the bypass I changed out the main battery to be safe and till get the darn warning light! Made sure it was the right negative lead and fuse. Not sure why the warning comes on but least I know main battery is new and charging.
Maybe try going to AutoZone and have them check the codes and possibly clear it.
I just tried this on my 2020 Gladiator, and nothing would power on when I uses the cable you described, but keeping the cable on the battery that you tapped allowed the car to power on. Also, I pulled the correct fuse but the auto start stop still worked
Try swapping the negative battery cable. Depending on year and model, it can differ. So try swapping them. It should work.
DOES NOT WORK WITH 2023 GLADIATOR RUBICON ECO DIESEL! Gas models might work?
What happened? I know that depending on year and model, you may have to swap which negative cable you disconnect.
Awesome! I wondered if I could remove/disconnect the aux batt and still have everything work fine. Thanks for this!
You got it! Glad you found it helpful.
I always feel like I"m going to randomly electrocute myself when disconnecting battery cables.
Yeah. I hear ya, but it's easy to safely handle them so nothing shocking happens. 😁
Does this fix affect the Remote Start on my key fob?
No. Not at all. I use the remote start all the time.
Just did this on my 2021 jeep JT life saver!
Awesome! Glad I could help.
Great video, that addresses how to disable but what causes the issue. Is it a a weak start stop battery.
Yes. I think it's just the fact that Jeep decided to use what's basically a motorcycle battery to do all the heavy lifting for starting the vehicle. I honestly don't get it. If you've had this warning light come on, address it sooner rather than later. The aux battery charges off the main and if the aux is on its way out, it'll keep trying to charge and drain the main to the point of damaging it too. I had to replace my main about a month after making this video.
Ultimately you want to pull the old Aux battery out along with the unnecessary wiring left behind. But this fix saves hundreds of dollars. There are some models where the Aux/Main battery leads are reversed, if you have any savvy with a voltage meter you can find it in seconds. But if it didn't work, try the other lead. That should do it. You effectively can save quite a bit of repair costs into the future with this simple hack. Both of my Jeeps are bypassed (2021 JT, and a 2022 JL). All Stop/Start or Run/Stop have the same flaw - the batteries are only as good as the weakest battery in the chain and you typically have to replace both by recommendation of Stellantis. $$$$. I don't think any of the manufacturers feel that this feature is a best design, but they get relief from the feds doing it. Which reveals why your congress is not the best technical advisor on your cars. Great, simple video. I have had zero issues with this bypass, which is less than I had before it..
Thanks for the info and feedback. Really appreciate it.
Please please help 😢. I did everything exactly same as video. The warning light is gone. Even tho I took of the 42 one. Stop/start is still working 😢😢 did I do something wrong? Mine is 2021 with 2.0. Help me 😢😢😢😢😢
You may need something like a Tazer JL Mini to disable the start/stop. The Tazer has a ton of other great features. Totally worth it.
@@otroverland Thanks for the answer. As long as I didn’t do stupid thing. I don’t mind to keep it like this. Am I safe? 🥲
Yeah. You're definitely safe.
@@otroverland thank you so much 🥲. I was worried about it. And also thanks for the video I hope I can keep my battery longer (2 years driving this car but I already had to change the battery😭)
You really need to review Harbor Freights Roadshock line. 1000 quality at 2-300 price. Harbor freight is really getting competitive with their Offroad offerings.
Yeah. I was eyeing those as well. They were honestly in my top 5. The price point was a bit higher than I wanted to pay. Don't get me wrong, they are great lights for the price. And clearly Harbor Freight is just branding someone else's product as their own. Which is totally fine. There are a ton of reviews on the Roadshock lights and everyone has had great things to say. So I don't doubt the quality. Suparee reached out to me and I gave them a try and was very impressed. So I did the review just to let people know there's another option to take a look at. And they are very competitively priced.
I thought the OTR stood for something else! 😂 How are you doing?!
It's actually both. 😁 We did it as an homage to the OTR and our hometown you and I know so well.
We're really good. It's a ton of fun out West. There's so much more to do outdoors and the history of the Old West is vast. We're thinking about doing a video series where we offroad to really remote areas in the Southwest where some historic thing happened and talk about it. When we travel by truck and get really remote and think about the fact that Native Americans and explorers trekked across this insanely unforgiving land on horse or foot is amazing and honestly humbling.
Idk why all of these people are saying your video worked because you hooked up the wrong cable back to the battery.
It varies depending on make, model, and year. I've updated the description and in comments.
Was it really that hot when you shot this? 108??
Yeah. That's just another day in Arizona. It's 115 today. 😅
I did exactly this today and it didnt solve the problem, still get the same warning light on dash, I have a 2020 Jeep JL 2 door Rubicon
Your aux battery or main battery may be too far gone. When the aux battery is on it's way out, it'll draw power from the main and wear them both out. I'd suggest having your main battery tested at AutoZone or the dealer.
@@otroverland I got to thinking, maybe its the other negative ground cable , even though that one was thicker and had the screw post attached to the end ( clearly it looked like the main negative cable ), So I switched the cables and the jeep wouldnt even light up, so I switched it back to the way I had it and and it cleared the dashboard error. Weird but now all good
I did this on my manual 2021 Wrangler JL and now for some reason the start stop works perfectly. I have no idea what I did wrong, I took out the fuse and taped up the connector...Maybe removed the wrong fuse?
I honestly had to look up and see the manuals had the start/stop. I truly thought you were pulling my leg. :) I would definitely check to make sure you pulled the correct fuse. I've learned it does vary by model year a bit. You may also need something like a Tazer JL Mini to permanently disable the auto start/stop.
Double-checked and had the correct fuse. Today, it wouldn't start, said it couldn't find the key fob. So I put the fuse back in and connected the cable back to the battery.
Yeah, but the charging system is set up to also charge the aux battery. I've watched my voltage and when it charges etc. Is it maybe better to leave the aux battery in since it's in parallel?
I'm saying it could possibly overcharge the normal battery if the aux is gone.
I'd say do what you think is best, but I've never heard of anyone having any issues removing the aux battery. I've been running it without the aux for 11 months now with no issues. If it's in parallel, then I don't think there's a concern of overcharge. It would just be less draw on the alternator.
Man love your rig!
Thanks buddy!
I did that and I had no power to nothing I couldn’t start my Jeep false info!
I mentioned in the description and several comments that make and model vary. If it won't start, swap the negative cable and it'll work.
fyi for anyone with a 2018-20 JL the cables are reversed. You remove the smaller cable on top. Had to figure this out the hard way.
Yeah. I added that note to the description and several comments. I wish I could add it to the video, but there's no good way to do that that I'm aware of.
Nice job. But i am wondering of 1 pound of propane how many hours do you get on medium fire.
Thanks! I'm estimating you'll get about 30-60 minutes with a 1lb tank. I bring a 20lb tank. The 20lb tanks happen to fit perfectly in a milk crate, so I just put that in the bed of my truck. A lot of people use the 5lb tanks. That would be good for a weekend with moderate use.
Hubby’s JT just experienced this and following your simple instructions I was able to fix in less than 10 minutes! Easy peasy! Thanks 😊
That's awesome. Glad it was helpful. Thanks!
Is it really 108 degrees there. Holy cow.
Just another summer day in Arizona. 😁
i did everything exactly like you did in the video and yes, i pulled the correct fuse but it did not disable the start/stop feature. i have no clue how or why it's still working.
You may have to get a Tazer Mini to disable the auto start stop
Does not work with mine. Neither does eliminating the aux battery. Light is still on.
Maybe take it to AutoZone and have them pull error codes and clear them
So the aux battery doesn’t power any outlets in the Jeep, only powers the ESS?
Yup. That's correct.
@@otroverland That’s good to know, thanks :)
I did everything as in video but still see this notification on my dashboard. Jeep JL 2022 What to do else? Thanks😢
Maybe try having it scanned at AutoZone to get the error codes and clear any old codes
@@otroverland Today will visit this place in my area. thanks. will keep you update
Is it really 108 degrees outside when you start up your jeep or is your thermometer way off like mine
Yeah. It really is 108. That's just a normal summer day in Arizona I'm afraid.
I tried this on my 2019 Jeep Wrangler and it will not start at all. Any advice?
Swap the negative battery cables. Same thing happened to me. It varies on make and model.
I done this it’s didn’t work stills popped up
Maybe try having it scanned at AutoZone to get the error codes and clear any old codes
Great video and instructions. I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport and performed the procedure. I drove the vehicle for a couple of hours and the ESS engaged when I came to a stop. Am I missing something. I have 3 other JL's and am going to perform the same procedure and see what happens.
I believe it works for some. You may have to get a Tazer Mini. That will disable it
Thank you for the simple explanation I'm thinking about this but I'm very cautious I know it's been 9 months since you've made this video how's everything working out so far did you have to put a larger amperage battery in just to make up for the auxiliary battery?
I didn't catch it in time. The aux battery leeched power from my main battery and dropped the voltage on the main too low. So I did have to replace my main. Since then its been fine without the aux battery. And I just got the Ecoflow 800W charger which pulls power from the main. It's all been working great.
@@otroverland why did Jeep mess with a good system?
Question maybe u can help me. My auxiliary battery went out so I changed it a few days the later the light came on so I change the main battery. The light still on. Do you think it’s OK for me to do what you did in this video just to get the light to go off?
I'd suggest if you replaced both and still have the warning light on to get it looked at. I'd say maybe it's still hanging onto to error code, but the time you took to replace the main battery should have cleared that code. You can go to an AutoZone and they will run a free diagnostic. So at a minimum, you can get the error codes it's throwing.
Is no one going to say anything about your pilot hole drill bit almost snapping? Wow you were giving it the business, it was bent like a bow. Great tutorial though, thank you.
Yeah, I noticed that too when I edited the video. Go Harbor Freight drill bits! 🤣
2019 JL. Pulled the fuse and the cable - and everything was dead. Put the cable back and fuse - everything was as it was with the warning light back on. Pulled just the fuse and no more warning light. Seems on some models the Aux battery handles a little something extra and not just the start stop. On others it seems it just the start stop. Removing the fuse only fixed the error message. So I am happy.
You can try swapping the negative battery cables you disconnect. I've learned it varies based on make and model.
@@otroverland I that a few days ago, forgot to do an update here. Yea- so for mine it was the other cable that connects to the Aux Battery. I also disabled the stop start using the pin under the hood trick.
I too have a 21 Gladiator same plain end neg cable removed F42 10amp fuse . Now my ESS auto start works again without F42 and without ground cable Must be a ghost under my hood.
If you get a Tazer Mini it'll definitely disable it
For some reason my jeep wouldn’t start after doing this. When I put the fuse back in and then put the aux battery back on everything worked… like the auto stop/start resumed working and hadn’t for about a month
Try swapping the negative battery cables. Same thing happened on mine. Depending on make and model, you may have to swap them. If your aux battery is on its way out, it can damage your main battery and that's expensive to replace.
I have 21, tried as shown didn't work. Watched again tried reversing grounds, nothing , wouldn't start, like dead battery. Tried again connecting plain end cable, WORKED!, Will tape up cable with stud, and cross fingers it will continue to work.
Yeah. Depending on make and model, you may have switch them.
I too have a 21 Gladiator same plain end neg cable removed F42 10amp fuse . Now my ESS auto start works again without F42 and without ground cable Must be a ghost under my hood.
A silly question, but what is the auxiliary battery negative cable bc I ‘ve seen other videos where people disconnect a different from yours?
There are 2 negative battery cables. One that connects to the main battery negative terminal and one that connects the aux battery negative to the main battery negative terminal. Depending on make, model, and year of the Jeep, you may have to swap which one you disconnect. The first time I tried this, I disconnected the other cable and my Jeep wouldn't start, so I swapped and disconnected the other and it worked.
Those make a great addition to camping/overlanding!
I haven't found anything that's a better bang for the buck.
So after all would the start stop function work again or that is gonna deactivate it ?
I don't think it will disable the start stop function. I believe you need something like the Tazer Mini to do that. This video is if you've got the warning light.
have a 2018 jl wrangler.did exactly like in this video.but had no power when i did it
Try swapping the negative battery cables.
