    Best advice I can give anyone watching as a self taught developer who changed careers late, make code and theory your obsession when you have the time to do it. Build your life around it, UA-cam videos, podcasts, small projects etc. Started my learning adventure when my daughter was born and it was tough but trust me you can do it. Blessings to all!

    You’ll get it for sure. I’m in class 4/5 learning CSS. I’m trying not to skip what I THINK I already know. I do JavaScript on freeCodeCamp on the side. And the syntax throws me so bad. I’m used to learning things relatively easy, but JS is more than a learning curb it’s a winding road. We got this!

    My only gripe with this video is that I wish you focused less on “you don’t need to know JavaScript to get a job/client” and instead focused on educating your viewers on the different types of developers (front end, back end, vs full stack). Then the messaging would be, “how to get a job as a front end developer. These are the skills you need as a beginner front end dev to succeed in your career. HTML and CSS”. Cause essentially all you’re doing is creating static web pages, which you are correct, you don’t need Java script all the time. But some Shopify stores do require you to have this knowledge, so I’d tread lightly on telling people you don’t need Java to get your first job as a dev. Just tell everyone you’re a front end dev.

    Laid-off developer with 4 years of experience here 👋. I hate to sound "negative," but it seems like the days of jobs that only require HTML & CSS are long gone. When I started in 2019, my first company hired me as a Web Developer primarily for HTML & CSS, with some minor JavaScript work. Fast forward to today, for the same position, that company now requires expertise in at least two frontend frameworks, plus solid knowledge of Node.js, .NET, SQL, MongoDB, and even DevOps. Having worked mainly in Frontend (React) throughout my career, I’m no longer qualified for the same role I was hired for back then. The job requirements have skyrocketed everywhere. I was recently laid off because of one underperformed task-just one! There's no tolerance for any slip-ups these days. And don’t even get me started on interviews... Scam jobs, ghosting, endless rounds of interviews followed by rejection-even senior developers aren’t safe. The harsh truth is: the market is brutal and likely won’t improve soon (or ever). It’s oversaturated, and companies now hold all the cards. If you’re not an expert in everything, and you’re not an extrovert with many tech friends and connections, good luck finding a job. So many developers are getting laid off. It's depressing.

    While some people might be "put downs", and shame on them, i guess the issue might stem for a bad choice of words and a bit of misunderstandings. Even though you got two positions as web developer, you, by own admission, were doing web designer work. Developer implies mostly coding. And that segues to the misunderstanding part. HTML is a markup language, which is a niche case of a page description language and CSS (up to now) is a styling language. None are programming languages thus none is code. Now, is there any issue being a web designer that wants to learn how to code, and therefore become a web developer, and, hopefully, a software developer in general? None. It's great to want to learn. Anything at all, not just programming. And if people feel the calling to learn, they should go. As for Javascript... I'd call it the "devil's tax". Its used because that's what you have to use if you need to do front end dvelopment, not because it's any good. IMHO anyone wanting to learn programming should start with C#, it's a lot more "overall friendly" and will force you to think about things in a little more structured way. And obviously do A LOT of small projects. A LOT. You learn mostly by doing, so do A LOT. Doesn't have to be anything serious or complicated. Even something as simple as "count the number of different characters in a file and their frequency" has a LOT to think about. If/when you feel ready for a challenge, CodinGame is free, and there's stuff for just about every skill level and language of choice.

    • @ErazerPT
      @ErazerPT 15 днів тому

      @CodingWhileBlack-q2n True that a CMS, some template HTML/CSS and content will be what most clients want/need, but if the person doing it is not touching JS at the front end or "insert CMS technology stack language here" at the back end, they're web designers, not web developers. The split is as old as the web. No programming, not developer.

    let me save you 35 minutes " The key points of the video are as follows. The speaker talks about her experience as a web developer. She got her first web developer job in 2019 and her second one in 2022. Her first job was for a government contract and her second one was for a creative agency. She left her second job because she felt like she wasn't ready and she wanted to start her coding journey over. The speaker also talks about how she got her web developer jobs without knowing JavaScript. She networked with people at meetups and got her first job from a woman who was also attending those meetups. She also showed the interviewer a project that she worked on where she used HTML, CSS, and Vue. The speaker encourages viewers to keep going and don't let anything stop them from learning to code. She also says that it's important to network with people and build relationships."

    So telling the truth is now being negative? Ok, Iet me stay silent and encourage you and everyone else to get into coding despite the market being the worse its ever been. Lets ignore the thousands of experienced swes out there who can't find a job because the market is over flowing with swes and not enough jobs. Lets ignore the fact that ai has now replaced the average swe, which will soon replace the senior swe. Lets just tell people what they want to hear and im sure everything will work out in the end. Unfortunately if you now have an opinion that people dont agree with then you are a straight hater. SMDH

      The word hater never came out of MY mouth. The way you started to go back and forth with someone was negative in my opinion. I ignored all the books you wrote on my last video and the accusations you made about UA-camrs and the person you were conversing with and prefer not to have that brought to any of my other videos. Your thoughts are yours and YOU can feel how you want. What I did say is none of us are all knowing and I put all my faith and situations in God and I stick by that. I usually don’t comment back to these sort of comments, but this is video number 2 with this. I get it, but it’s becoming a bit much lol. You say things in a very matter of fact way and have an undertone that is…I’m not sure what it is lol. “Let’s tell people what they want to hear” no, I tell people my actual experience and share my true journey. If you have a great job and are a swe (what you said on my last video) and you believe what you believe about AI, tell other aspiring swe’s what they can do to leverage AI and learn more about it. That’s what I’d do to help others. All I’m saying . I’m not a confrontational person so I won’t be going back and forth before you get any ideas lol. Just wanted to respond this time. I truly wish all the blessings to you on your journey. 🤎

      @@theminimaljessProverbs 26:4-5 ! some people only have negativity to add babes. Don’t entertain them! Keep talking about your journey and all the progress you have made and they will have nothing new to say💋 peace and blessings to them.

    I feel bad for people that don’t have any prior knowledge on coding & the tech industry , that will come across this highly misleading video , thinking they can get a dev role without knowing at least JavaScript + html , css and a framework like react , unsubscribing the clicks ain’t worth making content like this :) ( front end developer here ) 😊

      I’m sorry you took what I said that way. I shared my actual experience and literally said your experience is your experience and to not look at the next persons and think that has to be what your journey would look like. I also said how I started learning all over again to learn more and be more prepared. I never told anyone to go out and apply to anything only having a certain skill level. I said to network which is something I think anyone at any level should do. This was MY journey and now I’m showing MY journey learning the technologies and everything else I didn’t learn the first time. I was specifically responding to the comments that asked how I got my jobs with html and css. I don’t do anything for clicks. I share my actual experiences , how I feel, and what I actually go through. 🤎

      Most older web apps were written in languages like Java and PHP. Even today a lot of non tech companies don't use using cutting edge web technologies, especially government agencies.

      @@theminimaljess I meant to write a comment to you long ago, as I saw one of your videos where you mentioned waking up with stress. I've learned to manage it well with breath work and other physical techniques for relieving stress. Along with lots of self therapy. It definitely helps to prioritize mental health above all else. IMO it's mindset over skill set. You can always learn new skills on the fly. Anyway, blessings with your career and family!
