Just found him in 2022 and feel blessed to have heard him live and say a quick hello. Lived in Carrboro and chapel hill for over 20 yrs and still missed him. What a legend that has inspired so many artists, his biggest fans. Saw in an interview he defined rock and roll simply as “ Speeded-up folk music” hell yeah! Did great visual art also. Rest in power Dex. His energy and music live on!
Rest In Peace Dex. I got to play with him a few times and o e of the times I asked him what happened to The Mos. He told me this wild story that his buddy and him took acid one day and Dex went on a walk. His buddy fell asleep somehow in The Mos and woke up to the place on fire. They were using candles as a light source. He ran out of the place before it went down. Dex around this time came back and saw the whole place going up in smoke. Still high and thinking his friend was still inside burning, he ran into his moms house crying and called 911. That's when his friend came in from the front porch to Dexter's extreme relief.
I drove from Kentucky to Carrboro in December to see him at the Cradle. Never thought it would be the last time but damn I'm glad I got inspired to make that trip. Heartbroken.
You don't know how many times I googled different combinations of the lyrics I could decipher before I read your comment. Thank you sir. I knew the song was familiar.
"All towns are lonesome"? Dexter Romweber, Who told you that and why? It certainly seems to me to fit in with the clip recorded of you and Crow playing "Girl On My Mind", What with the reverb-y vocal and nobody else appearing in the clip but the building and trees (Correct me if I'm wrong) and you being into 50s and 60s music which I don't think many other people your age when this was recorded were into at the time.
At that time around raleigh, durham, chapel hill area, lots of folks were into A LOT of good music of ALL KINDS of music. It was an explosion of cool ish (all up and down the east coast even), and folks were collectors. Dex was just really, really good at it. And cause he was cool/crazy/awesome, he got gifted awesome collectors ish, too. Bet he's got the best underground stash in America by now. Ugh...
Soul Brother Number One, Bad Man Brown! Rest in Peace, Mr. Romweber
Rest in peace, legend
I seen Dexter Romweber many times as Flat Duo Jets & on his own. Rest In Peace....

0:05 - 0:12 : isn't that Peter Zaremba from the Fleshtones walking into the house? He presented Cutting Edge on MTV in the 80s
This is from the Cutting Edge, and yes, Peter Zaremba.
