Piper Meridian, 2 "Hot Starts" at 50°C in the Cockpit, Takeoff from Lucca, Tuscany (LIQL)
Lucca airport (LIQL), Tuscany. No fuel truck or aircraft tug was available so a turbine startup was required for taxiing to the near by gas station. 34°C outside, more than 50°C inside the cabin - air conditioning only works with a running engine. Unfortunately, due to weight limits we didn't load the aircraft cover on board to keep the cabin cool. The heat made things quite challenging as we had to carry the baggage and our little kiddies to the overheated plane. A real luxury problem of course :)
We finally took off from Lucca (05:23) abeam the beautiful historic city center on our flight to Saint-Tropez ...

Saturday Nov 5, 2022. After the Meridian spent 7(!) weeks at Piper-Germany in Kassel (EDVK) the brandnew G1000 NXi was finally installed. As part of the scheduled 500 hours maintenance requirement the FCU (fuel control unit) had been removed and sent to the manufacturer abroad, checked and overhauled. Illness-related the reinstallation of the FCU has been a time consuming effort ... so now ever...

    D-FLVL is a 2012 model (I believe). It was equipped with G1000 by the factory.

    Hi Wolfgang Nav lights of on a IF flight? Weather radar only go‘s on when lined up on runway! DE ICE is for deiceing, not to be switched on at 1 degree Celsius plus…VERY dangerous practice!!!! Read up in POH! What does the ME list state about stallwarning heat on IF flights with known iceing? Read up on the difference between do- list and check-list.! Also check your angle of the weather radar on the climeout!

      Yeah, turn on de ice boots without ice can kill you soon or later, it is just used when you see ice formation, if you turn on before ice is forming, you can make it useless...

      Compare it to a C172 or any other piston aircraft - it is not so noisy. Due to the lack of a pressurized cabin, you certainly hear the engines much better. That's why you wear noise cancelling headsets, so you really feel very comfortable and relaxed in flight ;-) .... and the iPhone's microphone is pretty sensitive too ...

      It is not an action movie! It documents a real impression of what is going on in IFR flying with a piston twin at or near the maximum altitude. It is interesting for PPL pilots etc. , maybe not for you ...

    I fly a meridian as well. 2008 pa46-500tp. We have the avidyne suite with two Garmin 660’s. I love the look of the g1000’s you have there. Was that installed from the beginning or did you do that after you purchased? I really would like to get away from avidyne but I have been told by avionics shops that it’s not worth the price to upgrade. And if it’s built in originally from the factory like that it has more integration into the airplane. Just seeing your opinion.

    The cause of the transponder error was actually the defective squad switch. This sensor on the chassis registers whether there is weight on the wheels or not. The sensor thinks the aircraft is still on the ground and triggers several error messages such as: A hydraulic warning when the landing gear is retracted. The automatic switching of the transponder from ground mode to flight mode does not occur, so that the controller does not receive complete transponder data... as happened in this case...

      The DA62 was replaced by a Piper Meridian with a turbine and pressurized cabin, because we are travelling a lot with two very little kiddies. It is not possible to make the girls wearing these oxygen cannulas during flights in high altitudes. With the Meridian we fly comfortablely at 30.000 feet on much higher speeds ... it really made sense but it is of course much more expensive :(

    Wolfgang, I have noticed that in this and another of your videos that the ladies in the rear with the young children are not wearing headsets.       Hi Ibrahim! Saint-Trop for us is one of the most attractive places for having some days of vacation. The typical relaxed Côte d'Azur livestyle with fantastic food at so many places, great beach clubs like the Club55 and all kind of watersports etc. ... of course you would find some hiking areas but we usually prefer to be close the water ;-) ... Check out my previous video from the approach and landing at Saint Tropez airport (LFTZ) ... you will get better impression from the area and a VERY special approach to the RWY 06 ;-)
