I lived in lisburn for many years, it used to be a nice market town, now it's run down and closed up, very depressing

Imagine an American tourist staying in the Haslem hotel and wanting to walk around the city to experience the northern culture at night

I live in lisburn and its fast becoming a dump, drug problems big time and drunks lying in the streets with blood pouring out of the wounds from falling, kids abusing shop staff no way come to lisburn.

9 years later and it's even worse than before. Very sad indeed

Lisburn is a dreary shit hole with no night life and hardly any shops. Best day was leaving the place.

Lisburn used to be a lovely town in the 70s and 80s with fantastic shops but now it is an ever expanding city with no soul or roads to cope with the traffic. Park your car for a few minutes and you get a ticket and fine. Shops pay extortionate rates and you could say Lisburn is "Over rated" in every sense of the word. Its a great place for Chavs , paramilitaries ,drugs and underage drinking. Best thing about Lisburn is the road out of it unless its the road to Lurgan and if God spares me until I retire ill be moving to live elsewhere. Ive said a lot but think it could be summed up in one word "Dump" .

I live in Lisburn and can't remember the last time I set foot in the town [don't make me laugh by suggesting it's even close to being a city] centre. I work in Belfast, I shop in Belfast and I socialise in Belfast because there is nothing resembling nightlife in Lisburn centre. I arranged to meet my wife for a drink in the centre one night after work and at 6pm on a Friday night it was like the town that nightlife forgot. A complete dead zone. That was about three years ago. There surely has to be no more lifeless town anywhere in the UK and Ireland.

I am A Pennsylvania U.S.A. resident as was my Father and Grandfather and am excited to have just found out through DNA results that all my ancestors starting with my great grandmother on my fathers side were from northern Ireland . So far we were able to go back to my 3rd great grandfather whose name was James Hogg . He was from Lisburn and was married to Ester Craig from Cookstown . My DNA has also showed that I am primarily a descendant of Great Britain although so far we have not discovered anyone out of Northern Ireland !

I worked in leisureworld and I'm now a taxi driver in lisburn. I'll be running in the next local election and trying to get a local indoor market put back into the city centre.

The only places I go to when I go home for a holiday to see my family is weatherspoons and the linfield. Beer prices are daylight robbery and when I go to an offy its even worse. I still love my home though. I hope things get better.

Nearly two years later and Lisburn is even worse!! No decent shops or entertainment here anymore. This saddens me :(

It's not the rent!!!! As a business owner, it's the BLOODY RATES!!!!! GOVERNMENT is doing this!!! Does anyone understand what it's like for business owners??? My family owned nearly half of Lisburn! Does the "Joe Bloggs" know that as a business we have to pay WATER RATES! (you think you are objecting to a "NEW" rate as a home owner!) on-top of "rates" bins are NOT included! in "rates" for businesses, water is not included either. WTF are rates for??? We have sooo many extras to pay that the consumer has no clue about, but judges us for ("sure how much is a scone!" "sure how much is a bit of ink and a needle" <in my case>" are rates for that little street lamp outside my business that flickers and doesn't work? It's different for business owners and until you become a business owner you will NEVER know how much it costs to be a business owner. "the parking.. " don't you see.. it's not the people nor the buildings, nor the business owners IT'S THE GOVERNMENT!! IT'S NOT RENT!!! the rent is the people trying to pay their bills its the RATES! US all trying to pay the government their damn wages. if i was either educated or an ex prisoner i would be able to stand for the REAL people a bit more! WE ARE KEEPING THE MLAs IN THE HIGH LIFE. SHEEP!! BLIND SHEEP!!!

I from Lisburn, I moved away to join the Army aged 16 and I am 40 now. My parents still live in Lisburn as does my Brother, in fact my mum works in Greens Food Store. Obviously is still come home and it is a shame the decline of the town. I have fantastic memories of my home town Lisburn, buying Star Wars figures from Leisure World etc. I do hope things get back on track for Lisburn, the home I love.

Some very disjointed and unintelligible cases presented by the guy with the glasses. The most obvious being "why can't local traders do Price Match?", Oh aye, why doesn't a local shop with probably a couple £100k worth of buying power take on the likes of Tesco who can sell lines cheaper than Greens can by them in?
