Relaxing street photography ride around Canberra
Dragged my bike up to Canberra from Melbourne and was glad I made the effort. The weather was perfect and I got to get around town and see it in one of the best ways possible.
Loved using my GX7 MkII or GX85 or GX80 - whatever you want to call it! It was the perfect balance of size and performance for what I wanted to get out and do on this and many little outings over the past couple of months.
Come along for the ride and tell me what you think of the photos!

Trying out the Canon R6 Mark II
Переглядів 1 тис.Місяць тому
Filmed on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. Recently bought myself the Canon R6 Mark II, and it's been great as a video camera for me so far, but I haven't tried much in the way of shooting stills with it yet. In this video, I change that by giving it a go and doing street photography in Melbourne. What's your favourite shot? Let me know in the comments! Cheers.
Fagus and Waterfalls in Mount Field National Park

Thanks for stopping by to check out the last of four videos I filmed in Tasmania this year! I had so much fun getting out and exploring this state, and the area featured in this video was a major highlight of my time down there. We start with the fabulous Fagus up the mountain a bit and then head down to see some waterfalls. Let me know your favourite shots in the comments, and don't forget to ...
Landscape photography on the east coast of Tassie
Переглядів 1112 місяці тому
In this video, I've made my way over to the east coast of Tassie from Cradle Mountain. A very different environment to where I've just come from, but just as beautiful. I was blessed with great light at the beginning of this shoot, but don't feel like I really did my surroundings justice with the photos I took. I still had a lot of fun, and as you'll see throughout this video, Tassie really cam...
Battling with tough conditions at Cradle Mountain

Do you think I could have fit in another "rough" when describing the weather for this video? It definitely accurately gets across what it was like during the two days I spent here taking photos. But I didn't let that stop me and I had a fantastic time, even if I didn't come home with the photos I had planned to. Hope you enjoy coming along for the journey!
North West Tasmania on Film

It's been a while between uploads, but I'm happy to be back with the first of a series of videos I filmed on a trip down to Tassie. In this video, we start in suburban Melbourne, catch the Spirit of Tasmania across to Devonport, and make our way over to Stanley with a few stops in between. All shots in this video were captured using my FujiFilm GSW690III on Kodak Ektar 100 film. I hope you enjo...
Trying Kodak E100 | Mount Buffalo National Park

Trying Kodak E100 | Mount Buffalo In this video, I visit a park I've had on my list for a very long time, Mount Buffalo National Park. Such an awesome park, and well worth a visit if you get the chance! Also, in this video, I tried a film stock I hadn't tried before and learned that I prefer other stocks, haha. Nothing against E100, I think it did a good job, but prior to making this video I sc...
Black and white film photography | Dandenong Ranges National Park

Black and white film photography | Dandenong Ranges National Park In this video, I gave a few new things a go. If you've seen some of my older videos you'll have noticed I'm not very talkative when I get out with the camera, but this time I've tried to explain what I'm doing as I go. I also shot, developed, and scanned the photos I took completely independently. And sorry for the garbage audio,...
Waking up early for landscape photography | Otway National Park

Waking up early for landscape photography in the Great Otway National Park. In this video, I took a slightly different approach to how I make these videos in two ways. They may seem a little obvious and a little uninspired but really made all the difference to my process. First off I did a scouting trip the day before I actually filmed the video. This meant I had a rough idea of the composition...
Blue Mountains Landscape Photography

Blue Mountains Landscape Photography With perfect timing, I managed to get up to Sydney and the Blue Mountains and back to Melbourne between two periods of border closures between Victoria and New South Wales. A great trip made even better and when I got to film a walk that I've been hanging out to do for a long time. I can also finally say I'm reasonably happy with the photo I took! Certainly ...
Tarra Bulga National Park landscape photography

Tarra Bulga National Park landscape photography So happy to be able to get out and film some hiking and shoot some photos of trees again. I'm disappointed the conditions weren't what I was hoping for, and that my photos weren't up to scratch. BUT, Tarra Bulga National Park still put on a show with wonderful sights, sounds, and hiking weather. I consider myself lucky that I can go out and do thi...
Film Photography | Otway National Park

Otways Film Photography I filmed this video months ago and to be honest, after my initial rough cut, I wasn't a fan. But with lockdown being what it is, I've revisited this old footage and have managed to pull something out of it I'm happy with. This was shot in a way that's different from how I shoot now and plan on shooting future videos, but I think it still fits with my channel well. To tho...
Getting out to shoot one more time | Lerderderg State Park
Переглядів 1304 роки тому
Last week I managed to get out to shoot one more time before Melbourne was brought back into lockdown again. It sucks to find ourselves here for a second time, but there are bigger and more important things to focus on, and the bush will be there waiting for when we overcome this thing. This video was shot on the lands of the Wurundjeri people in the beautiful Lerderderg State Park (yes, that r...
Medium Format Landscape Photography | Grampians National Park
Переглядів 1524 роки тому
This video is the second, and unfortunately the last, time I could get the Grampians on medium format - on this trip at least. So nice to get out into nature and shoot, but competing with the weather was a losing battle and it wasn't all I'd hoped it could be. In spite of that though, a break from lockdown and the city was an enormous blessing in these difficult times. I hope you enjoy this lit...
Velvia and Ektar | Grampians National Park
Переглядів 1684 роки тому
Recently I went out to the Grampians for a few days with friends. Hoping to get out and do a few hikes where I could shoot some film and some videos, we found ourselves unlucky and stuck hiding from rain for most of our trip. But, in spite of the weather, I wasn't going to leave without shooting something. So between downpours, I got out with the camera when I could and this is one of two video...
For a moment I was confusing this location with Grampians NP. I Spent 6 weeks in Australia in 2022. Such amazing memories. I have a GSW690 and these cameras are wonderful for helping you slow down and enjoy the process of your photography. Ah man, wish I was back in Oz now. Great place and good people.
Great video mate, love your style and photos. Keep it up
Cheers mate, glad you liked it!
Nice shots and video! Your photos have a unique look. We were in Canberra for Floriade about a month ago and did the same ride. Except we went the other way to stop at the Bus Depot markets for lunch.
Thanks! Appreciate you watching it. Nice, it looked like it would have been fun. I usually visit Canberra a couple times a year, hopefully if I'm around the same time it's on sometime in future I'm able to make it and check it out.
What camera and mount did you use on the bike?
I used an Osmo Action 3. For the bike POV shots it's mounted to the handlebars with the handlebar mount from GoPro, and when I'm using it for POV's while shooting I unclipped it from that mount and put it on a clip mount - also from GoPro - and attached it to my backpack strap.
Nice video! How did you carry the camera? On shoulder straps? Isn't it annoying while riding the bike?
Thanks! I used just a normal shoulder strap for this one. It was long enough to be relatively comfortable but short enough to still sling it across my chest and it not get knocked about my knees while riding. Would recommend taking great care doing this with a camera that you really care to keep in perfect condition, I certainly made sure to not ride too hard and take any big risks on this ride.
Please do one of these in Melbourne!!!
I'd love to! Definitely on the cards. I did do a street photo walk with my Canon R6 MkII around Melbourne that I posted just before this video, if you want you should check that one out too if you haven't already!
Nice video! How on earth do you manage to film while you ride? And so smooth as well.
Thanks, mate! I had a DJI Osmo Action 3 mounted on the handlebars with horizon balance turned on. It's got a really nice clip mechanism that made it nice and easy to take off the handlebars and switch to the clip mounted to my backpack strap when I stopped to take a photo. Worked a treat, right?!
Alex, I arrived at this video from your Canberra one and what’s interesting to me is the juxtaposition of the two cities. One slightly chaotic, the other planned to perfection… yet both presented by you in a wonderful relaxed style. I really enjoyed your bike ride through Canberra and hope to get there again myself to do the same. As a fellow recent R6 MkII owner, I look forward to watching your future films. 👍🏼
Thanks so much for stopping by and watching both! I agree, it's really interesting to see them side by side like that. Both great places, but also full of character in their own ways. I hope you enjoy your ride as much as I did, I'm sure you'll love it. Hopefully I'll have something out sooner than later for you to check out. Cheers!
very nice warm editing
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Well made video mate very nice
Thanks, mate! And go Penrith!!
Awesome!!
Cheers, mate!
Nice vid mate. I've been thinking about getting a small old Panasonic for a while now to take riding. I currently carry my Canon R6 in a hip pack but its often a bit too over the top. Looks like you got immaculate conditions on your trip. Awesome. Cheers!
Thanks, mate! Highly recommend it. Anything that gives you some decent quality and is small enough to not get in the way and carry around a lot is the way to go. My GX7 MkII/GX85 ticks all those boxes, but the viewfinder is a bit rubbish. I thought I’d need it, but I reckon if you’re like me you might be fine with an option without it, there are definitely good options out there. Love my R6, but having a smaller setup has meant I’ve actually shot more than I ever have before. Good luck in your search for your own daily driver!
Awesome video! Currently in Canberra and you’ve got me inspired
Cheers! Get out and shoot and have fun!
Takes me back! Nice video mate ❤
Thanks mate! I enjoyed making this one. Appreciate you checking it out.
Looks awesome, very insipring. great work mate
Cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed it.
Genuinely very nice video. The story telling, music, images changing on the beat, dreamy color grading. Love the attention to detail keep it up!
Thank you, mate! Very happy to hear you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Nice one man, love the one on the lake
Haha thanks mate, that one's my favourite too.
very nice photos, and love the editing
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching
Very cool. Great photos. I think my favorite one is the guy in the red vest coat getting on the tram at the end of the video.
Cheers mate! I like that one too, real happy with how it turned out. Thanks for watching

MR2 SW20 for the win 👌😎
A very welcome surprise when I saw it fly past! Cheers for watching
Nice one mate! Relaxing stroll around town 🫶
Cheers, mate! Was a great way to spend an evening. Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing. I’m looking to pickup the R6ii soon (hopefully). What lens were you shooting with?
Thanks for watching! It's a great camera, I'm sure you'll love it if you pick one up. In this video I used my EF 24-105 f/4L IS, EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS, and EF 50mm 1.4.
@@alexforsythphoto great. I have a few Ef lenses already as I shoot on Canon. What are your experiences comparing the Ef to the native Rf lenses. Are there any noticeable differences?
@@ikechadmedia3116 For the most part it's been really good. I got the EF-RF adapter with the variable ND drop in filter and for shooting video it's worked out great. It's a bit like having built in ND like the professional camcorders I use in my day job, and that's been really useful. If you go down that path though, keep in mind you'll probably want to get a clear drop in filter too, because when you buy the drop in adapter with the VND that's all it comes with, and doesn't have a clear one included. And I'm sure, like me, you're definitely going to want the option to not use it without leaving a bit open gap in your mount adapter while you shoot. Auto focus for stills is great, and for videos it works, but I've found my older lenses are a bit noisy and get picked up on my camera mounted shotgun mic when they're continuously focussing in a quiet room. I've got around this issue by using a wireless lav mic though. So really depends on how you want to use it, but for me this setup has been working well and feels promising as a good tool for me for a while into the future.
@@alexforsythphoto thanks you for the info. Yes I shoot both photo and video mostly corporate stuff. I’ve been looking at it as a hybrid styles entry into the R line.
What a peaceful, beautiful little waterfall at 4:01. I can imagine myself there. Thanks for bringing us along!
It was a really nice spot! Thanks for watching mate, glad you enjoyed it.
Love the mossy tree shots. Especially the one at 3:34. Another great one, mate.
Thankis man! That patch of moss and the mushrooms stopped me in my tracks and I had to get a shot. That area was a goldmine for that kind fo thing!
Nice one mate! 💪
Thanks! Cheers for watching!
Nice work mate 🤓 I was only there a couple of weeks ago
Cheers, Brett! I checked out a few of your videos before making the trip down. Very jealous you've been recently, I'd love to be back there again. Appreciate you watching, mate!

I think everyone should spend five hours sitting by the water in the wilderness. Good for the soul. Nice work mate! Great video
Absolutely! Worth every minute. Thanks mate!
What an amazing place. I really like the mudflats shot at 9:19. I see that type of pattern alot in my area but the colors you captured are top notch!
It really is! I was very lucky to catch those colours, thanks for watching, mate!
Another great one, as always. Love the shots you got. The colours are incredible!
Thanks man! Glad you liked them, it was a real treat getting out there!
So well put together. Love it, even the ‘obvious composition’ haha 🤙
Thanks Lucien, appreciate it mate!
Well done! Nice Pathfinder also 😁
Cheers mate! It was a great trip and the car didn't skip a beat - would have been nice if it wasn't so thirsty though haha. Recently came across your film channel and have really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the upcoming meet-up!
I dont know anything about photography really, but I know what pleases my eye and your work is awesome. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Maybe one day you should pick up a camera and give it a go yourself sometime!
Hi, g'morning Alex. at least for me, it's morning. I'm in Barbados . Yeah, I did enjoy the video. As you said, I also liked the first 2 images but in reverse order...as for the 3rd and 4th, I'm thinking just a hint of a burst of flash from the left as we viewed the image , especially #4 or you could try the image at a differenttime of day to get that back lighting...here in Barbados we don't have areas as vast as you do in Australia but that's the sort of photography that I love, so keep shooting and I'll be looking out for your images in future..have a great day safely...
Thank you, mate! I really appreciate you getting back to me with such thoughtful feedback. I'll bet Barbados is very different to where I shot this video, but beautiful all the same. Apologies it's taken a long time for me to get back to your comment, but I'm trying to get back out on UA-cam again and put out more of my work.
love your video, thank you
Thanks for sharing your photographic journey Lovely to see pictures from places I probably never experience with my own eyes Have you tried pushing your bw Film about one or even two stops - I know it’s an open secret but personally, I really do like the look of it Love to photography from Germany :) Thank you
No worries, thank you for taking the time to watch. Pushing film is something I haven't ever done actually! Although, I'll be giving it a go with a roll of colour film I shot recently that I fear was a bit underexposed so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Apologies it's taken so long for me to get back to you, I've just recently decided to come back to UA-cam and give it another go.
Great pictures. I am really into B&W photos. I like how you went step by step to how you created your shots. I t gave a greater understanding of the craft.
Thankyou for the info on the go...setting etc.
Nice video, but for me the music is far too loud!
Nice video. My pick is composition 2
Really cool video!! You can tell there's been a lot of effort put in filming it. And of course, awesome photos.
good composition. well done
good shorts, but need the sun 😁
Really liked the first two shots ,very nice, the first being my absolute favourite 😍 what a pity you stopped making videos
Nice video and photos!
Enjoyed the video!
Nice video Alex! I really enjoyed seeing your photography in an Australian forest. It brings back memories from four trips that I took to Australia between 2008 and 2012.
Super zdjęcia. Fajne kadrowanie. Bardzo dobry sposób przedstawiania całego procesu wyboru ujęcia. Naprawdę genialne! Podoba mi się. Dziękuję za ten film bo jest bardzo pouczający dla mnie. Kciuk w górę :)
Nice video. Haven’t seen you before. Just on my first roll of film & looking for ideas in Australian bush which is also new to me so thanks.
