    Did you figure out how to make it run cooler?

    • @chasehendricks7280
      @chasehendricks7280 Місяць тому

      No, at this point I have played with timing- currently running 1 tooth advanced, swapped to a BW 62/68/14 SXE turbo, put another brand new set of injectors, had the VE pump rebuilt twice, and it still is pretty useless towing. Way higher egts than it should. It has always smoked at idle and nothing seems to get rid of it. It has been over 2 years and probably 35k miles on this engine build…. I think my next steps are pop test injectors, and then compression test even though pistons, rings, injectors all have 35k miles or less…

      @chasehendricks7280 dang. I've advanced to 2 or 3 teeth. Ended up building compounds, rebuilt injectors, but still running hot. Pulling about 20k now I run about 1300° on 6% grade.. I've ordered 6x12s to try and see if that'll lower it.

      Yeah I hear you. I’m going to do a compression test and injector pop test here soon for the hell of it. I’m about done with this crap lol. I have a 7.3 as well with same gears, tires, weight, and this Cummins is just pathetic EGT wise compared to it. Sounds like you are a lot better off than me at least. I’m only grossing maybe 16k and it seriously runs hotter than my 7.3 grossing 22-23k….

    Hey man I’m looking to put an he351 on my VE pump Fummins and I was just wondering if you had to turn up the pump to get it to spool the he351 or if it ran good as it was?

    • @chasehendricks7280
      @chasehendricks7280 Рік тому

      I have a Hamilton 178/208 cam and 5x12 injectors and it spools almost too fast lol. I can turn the pump up or down and it spools super quick, with the stock turbine it was even faster. To be honest I wish I would have gone with a different turbo due to not being able to get a larger exhaust housing for this turbo. It spools great but feels choked up top, just like my stock turbo felt on my 7.3 which I ended up putting a larger exhaust housing and it was probably the best single engine mod I have done. The stock SD 7.3 turbo and he351 both run very small exhaust housings and they both spool super quick but the EGT’s skyrocket at WOT in the upper rpm’s. Really wish there was a larger exhaust housing or that I had just gone with a Borg Warner S362. TLDR - you should have no issue spooling an HE351

      @@Ajsatter1995 Long story short-ish, I have an F250 6 speed 7.3 with an extended cab that I spent years building the way I wanted (4wd swap, lift, flatbed, 180/30 injectors, modded stock turbo) and I had bought this crew cab F350 with no drivetrain in it with the intentions to swap my whole truck over (just to have the larger cab)..... and then my F250 got stolen. So I was stuck with the F350 that had no drivetrain, Only reason I put a cummins in is because I figured I would try something different and I have always wanted a mechanically injected diesel. It was a fun build, but looking back, if I could do it again I would have just found another 7.3 engine to build and put in. I got my F250 back but it is all beat up so its just an offroad truck now. In my opinion of basically having 2 of the exact same truck one with a 7.3 and one with a 12 valve and both engines being built fairly close to the same power (350-380) level. The 7.3 pulls harder and runs cooler than the 12 valve and the 7.3 is on 37s vs 33s on the 12 valve and the 12 valve has a lot more done to it (cam, larger turbo, valve springs, etc.) and everything is brand new on it compared to 330,xxx miles on the 7.3. To answer your question, there is no way in hell I would pull a 7.3 to put a cummins in.

      @@chasehendricks7280 honestly this is exactly what I wanted to hear. It makes my gut turn to think about driving my 7.3 to go pick up this Cummins just to turn and pull my 7.3 once I gather everything else for the swap. I’ve been wanting someone who has the experience with both and who can actually relate to the love for the 7.3, I appreciate your help lol I might just leave her alone

    Do you have a stock turbine wheel? The best upgrade you can make to the turbo is the turbine wheel, compressor wheel wont do a whole lot other than decrease spool time. Combine that with the 1.0 exhaust housing and you’re set

    Just my guess, but I think it would be happier with more gear. It's heavy and the 7.3 likes to rev out a bit - nothing insane but it just doesn't have the bottom end of a 12V. Plus with no converter I just think you'd be happier with a 4.10
