Hello VC,
My name is Alexander, and I have long been a fan of this content in this corner of the internet. Now I am trying to give back in the form of lessons from a sommelier (and wine distributor) and will attempt to break down the walls of wine and other beverages as well as sharing my incessant love for music. Follow me on my journey collecting music and bottles from all around the world.

Wrapping 2024--Great Vinyl Finds to End the Year
Hey VC,
Been a minute since my last video. I hope there are no more interruptions, but you realize some things are out of your control. Anyway, I just wanted to put an exclamation point on 2024 as it was an excellent year of collecting. Apologies for the delay.
Of course, the fires in LA put a crimp in the plan as I filmed the night of crazy winds in the beginning of January that led to some unbelievable destruction here at the edges of the city.
Enough about that, this video is all about some of the best finds from thrift stores to two really nice jazz additions found at a great record store just outside of LA. So, onto the new year and more videos coming soon.

Vinyl Gifts From Japan

Hello Vinyl Community, I had dinner with some old friends, last week, and they presented me with some gifts from their respective journeys to Japan. Spoiler alert it was nearly all records. A big thank you to these brothers for the very generous presents. Record shopping in Japan must be difficult but they scored huge. A little wine too. I had a bottle open from the legendary M&S Bouchet 'Le Sy...

Also, a little birthday wine too, with a great bottle of Cru Beaujolais from Jean-Marc Burgaud. From the village of Morgon, one of ten cru villages, that produces outstanding wines of Gamay. Hey VC, As promised from my last video, this is a video where I steer away from the rare value finds and pony up some real money (in some cases), for some true gems. There is a couple Jazz grails, new indie rock and some others that I have been after. Been a pretty good year so far despite having to sleep in the doghouse after making the video. ; ) Also, a link to some great channels: www.youtu...

Hello Friends, Found an incredible collection of music at a thrift store in the Los Angeles area, from promo copies to a really rare jazz label. One of the best finds I have stumbled across recently. No wine in today's episode, but the question of the day is what was your best find in the wild (thrift to yard sale, or maybe the dollar bin at your record store)? Let me know in the comments. Nice meeting you today!
Hi Alexander. Good to see you again. You cannot go wrong with Double Nickels on a Dime. The two jazz albums. Dynamite. Grant Green album is strong. Great finds all around A. Well done~ Rob/Boston
Thank you, Rob. For sure that record has aged beautifully. Grant Green in that shape is tough to come by so it was amazing. Thanks for watching.
The only stuff I find at thrift stores are Jim Nabors and Engelbert Humperdink records. Woo hoo! Tremendous finds and values. By the way - no shame about picking Double Nickels on the Dime record from Minutemen on Discogs Not everything can be a thrift find
It is so true. I have found one punk record at a thrift store and as you can imagine, it was not in listenable condition. Thanks for watching. Yeah, if I keep watching Henry Rollins then I think my pocketbook will start hurt.
Awesome score, man! That Dave Burns for $1.99 is easily one of the best thrift scores I heard of in 2024. Unbelievably cool!
Thank you, good sir! Yeah, wasn't aware of that record. Now looking for his other release on Vanguard, which I don't think I will get to score for $1.99.
Original Physical Graffiti & that Rolling Stones record - sounds like you hit it big. Better find a local casino and test your luck, but maybe that Dave Burns vinyl will suffice. Nice finds
Thank you kindly! Dude, that Dave Burns record was bananas--didn't even know it. Those Rolling Stones records made me sooooo happy.
That Brothers Isley / Isley Brothers is not a bad album at all. I think that T-Neck was their own label. <> Solid info on Soul Mining. I went to see them in and around 1989 when Johnny Marr was playing with them. Excellent show at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston. Can't say anything but quality choices Alexander. Really nice. <> Have a super Thanksgiving. Catch up with you soon~ Rob/Boston
Thank you, Rob! Yeah, it was their own label. That live show with Marr too would've been special to witness. Happy Thanksgiving!
i have thhe john hartford aeroplane record good choice
Dude, that album is sooooo enjoyable.
I live in North LA county (Santa Clarita) and I have 3 Goodwill stores within a 5 mile radius of my home and for the past 6months to almost a year, they've had almost no records to buy and the ones that they do carry are in hideous condition and they want $5 for each. We even have an Assistance League thrift store that used to have some real good cheap heat but for the past couple months they've been bone dry. Idk if you're willing to share this info, but what thrift stores do you frequent? Every time you post a thrift haul video you showcase some real bangers and at bargain prices. I don't want to infringe upon where you get your stash, but I'm jonesing for some thrift buys and my usual suppliers are not supplying. Anyways, I dig your vids. Keep posting. Maybe we'll run into each other during a vinyl hunt. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Yes, I can share some spots with you. It will involve some driving (because that is my gig), traveling wine sales guy.
If you would be so kind to share where you score some great finds. If it's in the LA area, I'm cool with that.
@@guillermocevallos9587 Find me on instagram and I can share a little easier. Cheers!
Dude - ditch the shrink! Great thrift finds!
Thanks, I get lucky thrifting! I have some weird attachment to preservation--can't get rid of it.
Hey Alexander. Just don’t watch videos with the frequency I used to, but still try to catch up with folks when I can. Happy belated Bornday! A finds video filled with heat. Very cool Thad Jones score. The Hazelwood has a gorgeous cover. That Alice is the one I’m still missing any pressing of. What a find! All that said, I think the Blue Nile is the best score of the bunch. But that’s just me. Always great to get some impromptu live music in as well. I miss those days of fly-by-night traveling. Great video. Cheers ✌🏻
All these records look like they belong in a gallery. Those seem to be some great finds.
Everything was NM and packed with care from Japan! Pretty lucky guy.
Why are you doing this?
Happy late Birthday! Glad you had a great one! Nice memorable finds. God bless
Thank you! I appreciate you watching. Feeling pretty good with these and didn't break open the wallet too wide.
Good finds. Antique stores around here are really hit/miss (mostly miss), but you did okay. Too bad you missed Shake It!
I will file Shake It under unfinished business. Thanks for watching. Luckily, I will be going back to Cincinatti again.
Good evening Alexander. Thanks for sharing your appreciation for wine. Your appreciation passed down to us is appreciated. Thad Jones and the Blue Nile. Fantastic listens. I am not familiar with that Alice Coltrane release. Journey in Satchidananda and Ptah, the El Daoud are the only two that I know and own. But naturally I will check out her second album "Huntington Ashram Monastery" thanks to you~ Rob/Boston
Thank you, Rob! I am a sommelier and wine sales guy for my day / night jobs so thought I would share some nuggets. Most people who aren't interested can skip ahead. That Alice Coltrane record is more like Satchidananda so I am sure you will enjoy it. The Blue Nile was / is a special band. Very happy with it. Thank you for watching!
Those $3 finds tho! epic!
Right!?! Thanks--a lot of misses at antique stores but every once in a while.
happy birthday, that thad jones looks awesome, congrats!
Thank you! Yeah, the birthday month treated me right!
Great video! That Herbie Mann album is fantastic. Hah. Loved your line about your GF saying you looked like a caged animal, 'cause I know that feeling when you see records like that. Something Else is a great album! I'm new to the VC. Posted my first video about 4 weeks ago. Cheers
Thanks for watching. Yeah, it was rare to come up on that much music at a thrift and so I reacted in kind. Will check out your videos post travels.
Wow, congrats, dude! Basra is a huge pick up!! I’m a big proponent of trading. I like to keep things pretty small around here, so I always develop a stack for trading, and I’ll usually take it in whenever there’s some more expensive stuff that I’m after. It’s great! Cheers!
I love that! I am no into the trading as well. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Looks like you turned lemons into lemonade since getting rid of 100 records is no small feat. Well done, sir.
It felt good. I got lucky and probably gonna do it again.
Happy Birthday Alexander my birthday is today that Pete Laroca is a monstrous addition congratulations big time .
Mine is actually the 19th, but that is amazing we are both September babies!!! And it was nice to have an old co-worker even remember. Hope you found some gold for your day, and I excited about your next vinyl finds video.
@@wax_n_wine yes The Virgos rule brother 🤜🤜🍻Happy Early Birthday
Happy birthday my dude
Thank you, Jimmy! Happy Birthday to you (16th right)?!
Hey Alexander - love the channel. I have a strong overlap in music, but also found some new stuff through you (Local Natives) - so thanks. Let me know if you would ever be interested in doing a co-video. I could do a beer and you do a wine. Take it easy.
Nice mix of titles! Went and streamed Ducks Ltd - gonna pick them up. Very jealous of the Soul Samba record - mine is a so so repress
Thank you for watching and commenting. That Soul Samba was long sought after and sounds great! Happy you liked Ducks Ltd--I spin my copies often.
Good evening Alex. I remember when John started his channel. I have met a lot of fellow collectors/friends in the last fourteen years in the VC. It is always a pleasure meeting another. You showed some fine artists. I thought you scored on the Bowie Mofi. Good to see you listening to some Jorge too. Nice jazz grabs. Charles Tyler is brilliant on Albert Ayler's "Bells". Looking forward to seeing more. Way to go~ Rob/Boston
Thank you, Rob! Appreciate you watching my content. Will try to stream Bells. Jorge Ben has been one of my favorites this year.
Great stuff man. Enjoy your take on the channel, wax and wine reviews, brilliant. Prices in LA are all over the place. Looking forward to more of your vids. Subbed. God bless
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, we are a beautiful mess in Los Angeles. There is a lot of value here too. Thank you for the follow!
Alexander wow nice finds that Gigi Gryce is a smokin’ record I wish he would of kept recording. That Cure pressing is the best of that album IMO. That Mofi Bowie sounds so good marvelous finds man so far I really dug it have a great week man.
Thank you kindly. Got lucky on the MOFI, just found it out there on ebay and the auction stayed low. Gigi Gryce is so hard to come by and yes I agree. His arc was just beginning, and it appears he was content to slip away into academia. I just found a really cool book on him I will be diving into shortly too.
Nice Bowie goodwill find and Disintegration is a gem.
The Cure record is everything I could've asked for... happy to add it. I got lucky on the bowie. Thanks for watching!
Hi Alexander. Ive met John a few times most recently in London a few weeks ago .. we’re hoping to go over to the Netherlands to the den Bosch record show in 2025 together.. thanks for your kind words I agree with your real estate connection. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks, Rob. That will be an amazing record show if you make it. Thanks for watching.
Wow cool Goodwill and thrift finds in Cali. I thought there were no deals left to be had especially in LA. The Rush and De La Soul can’t be too common in thrift stores even in Cali. Rasputin is funky! Dang Nas for 2.99. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Thank you! No, those are definitely highlights. Not common at all. The prices are creeping up everywhere but some diamonds slip through the cracks. Thanks for watching!
I like Local Natives also. Hey it’s time to post another vid! 🙏 Looking forward to it.
Great Video.....NEED SOME WINE!!!!...or BEER! The Booze Geek!
You are still the man!! And "Fly By Night" kicks some serious ass!! Fly by night, Away from here..........The Booze Geek!
Sometimes a record calls to you.
Let's hope!
Weird, my copy of Wish You Were Here has the EXACT SAME smoutch in the exact same spot.
My 2016 repress didn't have that... didn't even know that was a thing. Either way, I am happy with the music. Thanks for watching.
My local thrift store has the dollar shelves one dollar… They do not know what they have… I have literally tripled my collection of mint or near mint records a buck at a time… Literally, I am there waiting in a lineup on Mondays to scour the new Vinyl… Great video! Thanks
That is the fun of it. Especially when the prices of used vinyl are climbing so fast, it is nice to have some dependable thrift stores to help ease the pain.
De La Soul is a stellar find!!
i have 2 other charles earland records, he is a good musician!
good jazz finds man,!!!
The luckiest I have ever been. Still chasing that feeling with frequent trips and never getting close.
@@wax_n_wine i have at least 3 Kai winding records, his music is good

some good jazz albums you shown, alexander! i heard you mentioned on RG!
Thanks! That was kind of him.
@@wax_n_wine you bet!
Also here by Rob's recommendation. Very cool finds, although I prefer more squawks in my jazz!
To each, their own. Thanks for watching!
The Waxed sent me! I have subscribed!
Love the Dr Octagon. I have the European version on Mo'Wax Records. Worst live show I've ever seen though 😅
Don't have a lot of live hip hop experience to speak of, so will take your word. Still really enjoy listening to that record.
Sent by The Waxed...which means you may want to block me...I kidd 🙂
Rob sent me to sub ya. Take care
That is very kind. Thank you!
Welcome, looking forward to your videos, Rob sent me.
Waxed was mean to me at Erewon on Beverly once too.
Very specific LA reference--great and expensive grocer. Haha. Thanks for watching and envious of your Instagram for the store.
Nice score on the ESQUIRE score. Lots of these Prestige catalogue UK pressings were RVG stamped
Just learned that and was pleasantly surprised by the pick up.
