Like roses wither so does hope As we approach our final fate A new dawn of man? Oh no, can't you feel, the end is on its way It's all over, said and done, haven't you heard? We are living our last days in this world Oh, give up hope, do it now The world is coming crumbling down We have passed The point of no return by far And swept away the last sheds of hope A new dawn of man? Oh no, can't you feel, the end is on its way It's all over, said and done, haven't you heard? We are living our last days on this earth Oh, your days are over! Your world is finished! Down down down down Thy kingdom gone Down down down down My kingdom come This is it This is the end Free at last
I understand why Steven Wilson sees this song as a compromise to mainstream. It's a very good song but it's just not PT, it sounds like a song from an american nu metal band like Korn or similar. And PT are definitely not nu metal.
I can't understand why Steven Wilson doesn't like song.. it's just fantastic
Probably because it's a "single" song rather than a Prog one, but sometimes simple is better imho
Really rocksss soo good!
LYRICS: I don't remember Did something in my past, create a hole. Don't use your gender. To drive a stake right through my soul. I live to function, On my own is all I know. No friends to mention, No destruction, nowhere to go Shallow, shallow, Give it to me, give into me Scissors cutting out your anger Shallow, shallow, No good to me, not if you bleed Bite your tongue ignore the splinter This city drains me, Maybe it's the smell of gasoline. The millions pain me, It's easier to talk to my PC. I live to function, On my own is all I know. No friends to mention, No destruction, nowhere to go Shallow, shallow, Give into me, give into me Seasons caught in a triangle, Shallow, shallow, No good to me, not if you bleed, Bite your tongue end on a splinter Shallow, shallow, Give into me, give into me Seasons caught in a triangle Shallow, shallow, No good to me, not if you bleed Bite your tongue end on a splinter
I don't get the whole Porcupine Tree thing. They're just a competent but uninspiring heavy prog band. Bands like Riverside and Big Big Train blow them out of sight.
I was in the exact same boat for a long time, like 15 years. I just didn't get it. Is then 1 day it clicked for me: They may not have the craziest time signatures, the heaviest rifts, etc, But everything they do is impeccably performed, impeccably produced. It's meticulous music, Deceptively simple, but when you dig below the surface there's so much there. Whether it's spacey Floyd-type stuff, Alternative tinged Prog, over the heavier stuff of their later years, everything is finely crafted.
Steven Wilson is a god damn musical genius. F ing love this song.
Legends never die
GREAT!!
Xbox 360 sent me here
Yeah, sir's you were just far prior YOUR time.
Honestly haven't listened to this album in something like 7 years. Amazing stuff.
It’s funny going back and listening to this song after hearing what Steve said about it being a contrivance, seeing as how it is one of the very first porcupine tree songs I ever heard.
Kick arse song!!! The production is amazing.
SW does not like this song.
coh ii coh ii
Red for Fire + Black for Death is peak Solefald.
is that canon in d?

This seems to be the loudest / rockiest song so far. Any pointers anyone? The rest of the album sounds really slow and quiet.
That’s the point, the album is supposed to be about (supposedly) a toxic relationship and its effect on the main character. Open car is still a pretty similar song to this one, but something like In Absentia might be more up your alley
When my mom heard this song at my sweet 16 party 14 years ago, she thought it was Nickelback, but I keep telling her it's Porcupine Tree🤣
The outro 🔥🔥🔥🔥
A great "direct rock" song from PT :-) those lyrics are killer: "don't use your gender, to drive a stake right through my soul".
Mai una nota di troppo. Mai barocchi. Mai voluttà. Grande suono e bellezza.
Vero. Diretti al punto nonostante sia un gruppo prog. Arriving Somewhere una roba assurda.
Generation Next ROH😎
This is easily one of the best PT song ever, for me
awesome!!!!!!!
What a fuckin tune!!
"Shallow": yes, I've been listening to Tool, why do you ask?
"Don't use your gender to drive a stake right through my soul."
This brings me back to my memories of listening to this song while playing "Call of Duty 2" on the xbox 360. Man, life was so simple.
Still the best-sounding album I've ever heard. This album is a masterclass in production
Man, I was just thinking the same thing! Hadn’t listened to this in AGES and it brings back so many memories. Pure nostalgia! These guys were great. Still are!!
Listen to some of Rich Mousers work Transatlantic Neal Morse Band etc
You should see them live, the things they can do with quadraphonic sound in a huge stage are glorious
Guitar tones are so sumptuous
Badass riff 🤘 one of my favorites
What a great snare sound
IKR!
It's has the right amout of mids in it ,love it!
I just don't understand why Wilson has never performed this song live ever yet!?
A friend told me its because Wilson thought this was a bit too mainstream for his liking - not sure how true that is but maybe why he hasn't performed it live.
Steven Wilson apparently does not like this song, I read it in an interview with Steven that was talking about his best song with PT
its very hard to sing
ua-cam.com/video/xB1ZDhK2dLM/v-deo.html
In a recent interview he stated that the song was written mainly to be radio friendly. So with the song he connects the feeling of being pushed by the label to write this song for marketing purposes and not for the sake of music.
My Brother's Band Is Going To Add This Song To Their Play List. Most People Never Heard Of This Song. They Don't Know What They Are Missing.
I remember playing Perfect Dark Zero with this song in the background back in 2006
I think wwe used this for a ppv theme in 2005
Sounds like silverchair
That new Audioslave song is amazing
I play gears of war with this song
Inhale/exhale Inhale the exhaled Inhale/exhale Inhale the injected voice Inhale/exhale Exhale the inhaled Inhale/exhale Inhale the lines of white noise Silence depicted the room And released the liquids in drops Infinity licks the tongue of thorns And devours the cities in drone These designers of syndromes The core of poison free sound Slowly drifting to the mind of dub Gardens swallow the idyllic life Inhales heavens to earthly eyes Open palms of autumn scars Adieus to plaintive solar charm
wish i got to see porcupine Tree live , One of the most talented bands
