Lalaport BBCC: The Massive RM 1.6 Billion Mall That's Declining?
#deadmall #shoppingmall
Today let's take a jog down again to the busiest part of Kuala Lumpur- Bukit Bintang in Malaysia.
Before Lalaport Malaysia existed, this site was a prison complex for the most hardcore criminals. A place where murderers, drug traffickers, robbers are jailed. It was also a place where capital punishment was carried out. This caused a lot of commotions when the prison was demolished to make way for a RM 7.8 BILLION redevelopment of the entire site into BBCC.
With this RM 1.6 BILLION Japanese-themed mall that offers unique experiences, will it be enough to overcome the stigma of its past to become the go-to mall for many?
Unfortunately, Lalaport has been plagued by horror stories since inception. Also, with the intensive retail competition landscape in Bukit Bintang, with Times Square extending just beside it, can Lalaport BBCC not only survive but thrive?

the biggest problem is, this mall is former infamous KL jail, Pudu Jail. where Botak Chin & Mona Fendi were sentences death over there. although it's already "refurbished", but "they" still there. some of mall users sure encounter such experience. in the end, their fate is pretty low.
@@adrianwang2724 😱😱😱😱
i think Malls in general have been low count of guest coming everywhere so i dont think the previous prison ghost story is the issue .
Ya various factors come into play here. There are just too many malls in the vicinity
@@ryan_go_where , some outperformed but some doesn't. why?
Mall banyak sangat maaa, buat apa. Cuba buat kawasan mall jadi tempat bersukan atau car camping besar-besaran ke, baru syok. Mall sana sini boring maaa
Ya memang betul. Kebayakan mall juga offer bahan Yang Sama.
This is my most fav mall so far besides its dark history, they have the heated toilet seats too I'm impressed! <3
Oh I didn't know that. 😂 Through any through Japanese mail
True its boring and feel like a stranger inside
Ya but at least they tried something different. Like the rooftop garden. ,
Eeerie feeling, that is still there 1896 spiritjust wont move out ?if yr wan is low better dont go there .
😱😱😱
as some of them doesn't believe. when stays there for some time, some doesn't believe and they will feel that.
I’ve had good experience visiting this malls. Didn’t feel creepy at all. This is coming from a Chinese.
Yaaa, true that.
There is a group called Community Day Collectif always host Pokemon Go Community Day event here. Usual location is at Family Dining Area inside Garden Dining Area.
LaLaport is the place to buy Genuine Japanese or Korea products , SONY flagship store also at LaLaport too. For those who wanted to buy real Original Japanese & Korean home supplies , electrical & electronics , & to eat Japanese foods , LaLaport is the Shopping Mall to visit! Thank You So Much good brother Ryan for your guided tour of LaLaport Shopping Mall near the Bukit Bintang Shopping District in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia!
Hey no worries 😊 glad you found my content helpful. Thanks for your support 🙏🏻
I still remember those day ah, everybody was holding and looking one piece of paper, tag price list and compared with other shop, and which one cheaper. I bought my pc celeron, 6gb hdd and 8MB RAM.
Does anyone know why Lalaport doesn't have UNIQLO? 😅
@@whyamiusingthis oh ya. Didn't notice till you said it😂
I went there in November and while it wasn't scary for me, it was all very empty and kind of boring.
@@DominikSchwind I think should be better now. Lots of shops have opened
Been there for more than 20 times already. The mall is good and getting better with many new tenants

Nitori is a good brand.if got discount faster buy some.😊😊😊
@@kwokmichael4895 thanks for the recommendation👍🏻
Great mall..I think the mall would receive more customers if it is converted into a college/hospital combined with mall..
@@starz2020 like Sunway Pyramid?
To be fair it’s not that scary, always having a good experience here.
@@rivai01 yup. Not too crowded and cheap parking.
My daughter likes to go to Lalaport even though we live 70 km south of KL
@@daengzool6023 😱😱😱 that's some commitment right there 👍🏻👍🏻
This mall very low key quiet and it is well maintained, despite a lot of people saying it is kinda creepy, due to its historical location which no one can blame at least Mitsui Fudosan knows what they are doing.
@@jun_suzuki42 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
turning a prison land into shopping malls is a bad idea. Chinese friends believe this place is haunted by evil spirits . i have no idea how many people was persecuted on that that hallow ground since 1891.
actually before it was a prison.., it is a Chinese old cemetery, then British ask them to move so they can open the Pudu prison 🥲
10k people.
@@syazrinsyauqi6797 the British asked the corpses to move? 🙃
@@syazrinsyauqi6797 yup it was.
@@kwokmichael4895 the prison capacity?
They built a massive shopping mall over the old Pudu jail. The car park and certain passage to the toilet walkways are quiet and scary sometimes after hearing so many stories about the mall being haunted. Doors opening by themself and someone talking at the toilet but they see no one there. I guessed there are too many malls already and this scary mall is one of the best place to explore and test your boldness to walk alone there on your own if you dare to do it. Normally I would go with friends and spent the time shopping for the whole day.
@@CalvinLimSH-ld5le that does sound scary😅
I wish they preserved one of the cells as a museum. I’m so sick & tired of these repetitive mall layouts, all they want is your money. Like is there anything else to do than shop?
it's a mall and by a private for profit company too. You don't expect them to be generous other than earning money lol
@ they need more recreational activities , not materialistic ones
@@bonksmusic1 I agree. I felt it was such a shame. The prison could have been a museum, am educational ground to show the younger generations how a life of crime does not pay.
Went to the Ultraman event 2 years ago. Good times.
@@MatTen532 Indeed😊
No bookstores like Popular, MPH or Kinokuniya, no toy stores like Toys r Us, LEGO stores, no Pet Stores - what are younger people supposed to do when they come here? Utterly boring mall with nothing to attract people other than an excellent selection of restaurants, and a car park which we can park here and take MRT to One Utama.
Ya that's true. A disconnect between the mall builders and what the people actually want
Very good mall. Tai'er and Oriental no need to queue up.
😂😂😂 true that!
Most people who live in Damansara Heights are boycotting the mall anyway. It's another unnecessary mall that is causing nothing but traffic congestion to an already cramped area. Thanks for your review btw!
@@MrAirpearl ya that's what I read in the Reddit comment. No worries, thanks for watching my video. Appreciate the support 😁 just wanna give an honest reviews of all the malls in Malaysia
why u think the wording PAVILION is gold signboard?.............ahahahahaha..............
😂😂😂
If DC mall is dead...wat do you think the fate of another mall beside DC mall?
Ya true that. Not sure what the people who built it was thinking... but hopefully with the pavilion name, they are able to turn things around.
Parking Expensive
Ya it is RM 3 per hour XD
2005 - 2007, after graduating and looking for a job, I worked as a freelance computer tech. Plaza Imbi is where I get my supplies, rams, hard disk, monitors, display card, etc. Wow, this place look really old. There is a shop in the basement where the price is cheaper than others. I saw the basement entrance in your video (0:46) and it looks like its change to something. I wonder what it is?
@@faizalnayan it's turned into a Karaoke lounge. But alas, I didn't explore that level. 🙏🏻
to be fair…in recent years USJ Summit improves alot…my go to place to get haircut too…
yup it has. Ya a lot of salons in there.
You are too chirpy today for a dead mall specialist. HAHAHA
hahaha I wouldn't call myself a dead mall specialist. More of a dead mall enthusiast.
Half-dead mall
Ya it looks like it, at least on the weekend, for now.
Can u do the video at Alamanda Putrajaya? The mall seem slow after the opening of IOI Mall Putrajaya
Thanks for recommending. I actually visited Alamanda, when I was filming another deadmall in Putrajaya- called Shaftsbury. In contrast to Shaftsbury, Alamanda looks very much alive XD. But maybe compared to IOI Mall, Alamanda isnt that modern.
Failure of a mall
😅😅😅
Fahrenheit 88 isn't really dying. They're basically a buffer mall for Pavilion across the road. I do remember the old Tower Records located at the mall in the early 2000s, before they moved to KLCC. That was a nice shopping experience - suddenly I miss buying music CDs...
yup, towards the end of my video, I did say that the mall is still thriving. :)
Greedy capitalist owner…. If you want to attract local, please larr… provide cheap foodcourt… sure people will come.. people can forget about gerai or foodtruck… Malaysian people not to rich… Do they learn from Mid Valley, which got one hidden cheap foodcourt.. that the bonus for Mid Valley…
Midvalley 👍🏻😊
When it was just newly open I come by mrt station. From exit to the mall was a lot of walking, into dark alley due to construction not fully completed. Not sure about now.
It's good to hear that they've finished the construction! 😊
@@ryan_go_where Finished?
Well the property capitalists will say "but hey the rentals around are full and high yield so f* feelings and hello investment opportunity!"
😂😂😂
1st time viewer here, I would have reviewed whether the access is easy for disabled or elderly, whether the layout made any sense. You mentioned about catering to kids, which a lot of people are still having kids hence money. But I feel like it's a very small corner from your video and they should have expanded more into it. It feels like an afterthought, after wanting to appeal to CEOs but how many CEOs will want to walk by everyday? The lights everywhere in too many spots, well that's going to take a lot of power (cost) and already they can't maintain it (the Damanela Main Entrance already have broken lights when you recorded it as you look up) I find this mall launched in 2023 to be tone deaf especially in the age of online shopping and barely out of the pandemic. The economy is obviously not good and as you said, too many other competitive malls. This mall is severely lacking an entertainment value or experience for people to want to get out of their houses and go to this very mall. In fact I can't even say this mall will appeal to the locals but it seems more like catering to foreign expats which most of them will be centered in Kuala Lumpur. There's a lot of misses and it doesn't bode well for this mall (wouldn't be the 1st time a Malaysian mall closes within 3 years).
Thanks for supporting the channel. Appreciate it! Thanks for the valid pointers, ya I can include those as well in my future videos. Great ideas mate. Stay tuned😊
This mall was $pecially built for Ro$mah & Ra$ak clan of crook$
My fav mall. Less crowd. Was there yesterday also
Yup it has good ambience, not as packed as sardines. Just wish they have opened up a cinema, then perfect
Anybody feel KL is in short and needs more shopping mall?
No, I think there is way too many malls. Especially in the Bukit Bintang and Imbi area.
Same thought. Especially most malls have the same shops and f&b. Not sure if age related, I appreciate neighborhood mall more, save me hassle of traffic and parking, just exercise a bit and walk there.
@@szeweisoo153couldn't agree more. It's a buffet selection of malls over there.
@@shioumingtrue that. Instead of building megamalls, perhaps neighbourhood calls would be more practical
If Supermarket like NSK or Giant or Lotus or what ever and got food court sure will be full
Ya, but maybe here the food court is full on weekends. Just a guess.
not safe anymore. building too old. fire safety no more implies. lots illegal activities. bangla do illegal business but no pay tax. extortion service all around. bad image for malaysia.

Anyone remember the short lived age of the supertankers ? Or the super condos around the world that remain empty , new cities yearning for people to occupy it and give it life ? There are more people now but less with the means for the lack of money .
Yup ghost cities around the world due to overdevelopment

Very true. Those who knows, knows. Unless the brand is bigger than him. Like LV
😮😮😮
Hmm. I haven't set foot there even once since 1998. It used to be Pusat Bandar Damansara office blocks with an income tax (LHDN) branch there. The firm where I worked was at block C. Still remember working until midnight, 7 days a week, 7-8 months in the year to complete tax returns and often submitting returns literally in the last 10 minutes of the filing deadline. Looks like I should drop by here this year just to check out the 2 malls. Can't believe it's been 27 years..😅
Wow, you have such amazing memories! 😊
I think this mall just needs more time to develop. Nice ambiance throughout.
Yup hope so too. 😊 It's never a good sign to see malls failing. The people who suffer are those mom and pop shops owners or cafe owners. Hope the business will pick up
The next mall you should check out is Endah Parade
I actually did one video before, but it was a Shorts. Ya I could revisit that nall again. Just that the top floors creep me out 😅
