Hi! We are Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck, glassblowers and co-founders of Vetro Vero Glassblowing Studio. We create handblown glass decor, sculpture, and tableware designs. While glassblowing is on hold for much of the world, we strive to create and connect community through technical and entertaining videos, workshops and live streams. With over 40 years of combined experience, we merge expert knowledge, keen intuition and obsessive finesse to inform our techniques.

Blue Spooled Bowl Part 2: Blown Glass Pattern Encased in Color by Schunke + Gluck
Welcome back! This is Part Two of our Spooled Glass Bowl process video series. Thanks for watching, feel free to ask questions or leave comments, share with others, and please remember to subscribe!
In our collaborative handblown blown glass bowl series, we (Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck, designers and co-founders of Vetro Vero) layer innovative glass cane and murrini patterns to examine relationships between order and disorder. We frame the patterns within a sheath of contrasting color to expose the space where chaos reveals beauty. The handblown art objects touch on themes of beauty, chaos, and the spectacular mundane.
This video features the second phase in our intensive process to craft a large-scale shallow bowl. In this segment, we fuse the intricately patterned blown glass component (from our last video: ua-cam.com/video/an7DjrolTns/v-deo.html ) onto a large blowpipe, positioning it to become an interior core. We gather more hot glass over the core, and encase the pattern in a blue exterior by blowing into a color cup. The combination of the pattern and the color cup becomes a massive core of accumulated molten glass, which will eventually be formed into a substantial showpiece.
Glassblowers will notice that we are constantly cleaning and inspecting the glass. Also note the shape and temperature of the pattern going into the cup, sealing the color over the glass without trapping bubbles, and the scale and temperature of the bubble prepared for a final gather.
Don't miss the rest of this process! Subscribe to be notified when the next video is released:
We will demonstrate the final gather from our furnace, and show how we shape and finish the completed handblown glass vessel.
Thank you for watching!

Looking great!
Hello Michael and Josie! I was in your goblet workshop at Corning about 10yrs ago. Loved the experience and hope to be able to learn more from you again soon. Are you planning to continue your teaching workshops?
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!
Please show the finished works
Beautiful ! Thanks for sharing. I would have loved to see the finished goblet, though.
Beautiful ! Thanks you for showing the final result !

I bet this guy is an amazing lover.
Totally.
omg when the piano drops at 7:47 - i love it
picking up the cup from the kiln so centered was athing of beauty
THAT seal to the cup was DEAD CENTER! so many hot shop goblets are not nearly that clean, amazing work by a master
Awesome 👍
I'm curious, is there a specific reason the patterned bubble was puntied/put away and picked up on a collar later rather than just being stuffed into a color cup while still on it's original pipe? Only thing I can think of is breaking up the time (that extensive threading/melting in must have taken ages).
Beginning glassblower here learning so much! To see what is possible is hard to believe. Completely awed.
Very nice cup skills! Having fun with a pineapple mold at my studio here in MN. Welcome anytime! Using a 95lb Phoenix from Mobile Glass Studios.
I never realized how exact of an art this is, and having a partner that is so in synch is wonderful.
Hi Michael, It's great to watch your video. I have been practicing the skills in this video, it's hard for me to pull the glass in such a calm and steady way. May you share any tips for me? Thank you!!!!!
It's very generous to share so much of your process with us. As we all strive to run prefect bits and make tight avolios this insight is invaluable. Rock on.
What color is the cup if I may ask?
Amazing <3 I am needing a hand blown Amethyst purple glass votive replaced...would you be able to make it & how much would it?
where is part 3?
Ok. Only 1 question then. Who made your jacks? Thanks.
the ones in the video are jim moore, but its in the hands anyway
2 questions. 1). Are you using batch or cullet? 2). Who made your jacks? Thanks!
Love the videos! Pensacola FL glassblower here, really trying to get my twisty cups down, you make it look so easy!!
Beautiful 🥰
Great video, so well crafted.
How the f%%% are you wearing a white shirt? : )
Question. The Jacks you’re using. Who made them?
hypnotizing! I will never get tired of watching these!
every time I watch these I learn something new. This time I caught the guideline he put in prior to thr flash and trim. simple but excellent
Yes! Good eye.
These are wonderful videos and the music works beautifully!! You guys ROCK!!!!!!
Thanks so much! ❤️
Why does he jerk the pipe across the arms of his chair? I’ve watched several videos and I can’t tell if it serves any purpose or if it’s a habit. I’ll go rewatch another video and time the area I’m speaking of...
Yes, let us know where you see this happening and we’ll do our best to explain!
Do you mean right about when he's about to sit down and the blowpipe is resting on the arm and is tilted downward a bit? Some of it I'm guessing is just to maneuver himself into the seat and sort of stepping "around" the blowing end of the pipe. But also I think it's to give the glass a little bit of time to elongate, hence the downward tilt.
the only other thing i can think of is when he wants josie to stop blowing and just moves the pipe away instead of telling her. but i don't think i see that happening here... plus, to your point, @atombob, there is a hefty mass of glass there -- heavy stuff to stretch out without using the rail.
Amazing!
thanks, charlie!
🙌
Awesome. Love that Chaotic cane pattern!
Thanks! It takes a long time, but the results are worth it!
🙌
Cool video with beautiful hand-blown glass. Excellent clarity, spectacular colors and exquisite craftsmanship. A showpiece for any interior.
Thank you!!
Aaah nice punty😊 I miss making glass😣
hope you can get back to it soon!
I can't imagine how long and how much skill it takes to create just one goblet!
Only about 30 years of practice...!
@@VetroVeroGlassblowingStudio I"m not surprised. It would take a lot of practice to make it look so simple!
Incredible glassblowing skill however a very mediocre execution of the moonlight sonata.
Lol
thank you... we'll look for better recordings in the future!
a lot of skill and craftsmanship. I know these are a lot of work what does one sell for?

I hope the world never gets to the point where this art is lost. Really amazing process and talent.
we'll do our best to continue teaching and sharing so glassblowing continues!
You make that look easy... Beautiful work!
So many years of practice. Thank you!
So much work goes into the making of just one glass object that allot of the time it's such unappreciated work until you see the making of said product that is when you start appreciating things more.
Thanks for noticing!! It takes years to learn, and time to refine. Thank you.
Agreed!!
have you ever gotten burned?
Lol, yes. But not so much anymore.
this glasswork just nothing like it.
thank you!
so good! love the videos
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying them!
So stoked to put some faces and names to the Goblet Ninja and the other Ninja warriors of the Secret Goblet Society! Thanks Micheal, Josie, & GMan 🤗 - @WaskaWaterDog
we think the SGS is cool too.
Excellent video. It is always a pleasure to watch Michael work!
He’s so smooth.
thanks, Walt! It is always a pleasure to hear from you!
Thanks for saying so, Walt! We hope you are well.
If you are a master of this technique and show this in a video then it seems as if everything is very obvious. This requires many years of experience and practice and a lot of specific knowledge of the different techniques to be able to do this. It is absolutely fantastic to see this excellent craftsmanship. Fabulous. You are the grandmaster.
We will provide more videos soon! Thank you for watching.
He makes it look so easy!!
Really great footage! Thank you for the video. Those slow motion replays are really helpful!
Great! Thanks for watching & very glad it’s helpful to see the slow-motion replays.
You bet! I’m glad the replays are helpful - I’m trying to emphasize the moments we normally get the most questions about! Enjoy...
