Honda TRX250R Aftermarket 39mm PWK Air box intake manifold boot install trick

So I made this video after beating my head into the wall trying to figure out how to install an aftermarket 39 mm PWK carburetor on my Honda TRX250R ATV using the stock oem am air Box intake and manifold boots. After all the research I did nothing seemed to work until I found this trick using a heat gun. This is a take your time and don't rush it kind of deal but it works hands down. You will w...

Hows the upp holding up? I just out one on mine.
Holding up great runs like a champ
Hello, great video. I'm working on my buddies quad whom he bought from some guy. It looks like the original person also did this but I'm having issues getting this thing running. My buddy said he was riding this thing before but now it won't run. I opened up the carb and the idle screw is shaved down and missing the spring. Is there something I'm not aware of or is this commonly done?
As far as the idle screw, it shouldn't be shaved down; it should be just the stock screw with spring all oem parts, no Chinese parts or carburetor they won't ever run right. The oil mod is a personal preference. I am already mixing gas, so for me, it made it easier to mix one for all quads. Plus, you never worry about the injection getting clogging.
This is a great video! Very detailed and descriptive. It was exactly what I was looking for and very helpful. Again great job alot of the videos on UA-cam are just horrible with these types of videos. Some I've watched I honestly felt like I knew less than I did before watching 😂 liked and subscribed!
Hey you never said where you got that airfilter adapter!?
Where Oh Where did you find new plastics?
Purchased oem from the dealer
Is there a kill switch? Once I changed the carb the pull cord spins freely now, it worked fine before??
Kill pull cord on the back of the quad should have a cord attached unless someone bypassed it
@@quadjunkie007 thank you, that will cause the pull cord to spin freely?
No the pull cord will just kill the Ignition spark. If your pool cord is spinning freely something has come apart and not assembly where it attaches into the firewheel you've missed something putting it back together
@@quadjunkie007 I was in a hurry and trying it out before I left, forgot to put break on lol after I remembered I didn’t do that, it worked fine. But after it ran a few minutes (4-5minutes) maybe after it heated up it kept stalling. Any idea as to why? My guess is gotta adjust carb. Got late and stopped messing with it.
Also this is 2 cycle, very stupid question but you don’t pre mix the oil and gas on this fourwheeler because it has the oil tank that it auto mixes with right?
I removed the oil mixing tank and pump. I mix my own because I am making it for 3 different 2 strokes. Now I make 32:1 for the 250r lt80 and the 50.
@@quadjunkie007 that makes sense. So if I leave the oil tank and pump on there, I just put normal gas in it correct? I just bought this 2004 lta50 last week and I’m putting new carb on it so haven’t fully looked into it.
So you said the jet that came with the kit didn’t work right so you went bigger correct? If so what jet did you get to replace the jet that wasn’t big enough?
Actually the main jet it came with ended up being fine. I removed the restriction screw in front of the main jet and then it worked fine. The pilot stayed stock
@@quadjunkie007 oh ok, that was probably the screw behind the main jet screw in your video correct?
Where did you get the pipe and muffler?
So you just take out what you can and block it off and that's it?
Pretty much I wasn't going to split the case to do it wasn't needed
@@quadjunkie007 no problems so far?
@@POOL_EXCAVATIONS nope hade the quad for about 8 years
@@quadjunkie007 does it run any better?
It would be awesome if you could share it in a PDF...
I don't have it in a pdf but I'm sure you can find it on Google
I used a starting fluid cap
Lt50 is the same engine as the jr50 right?
Yes I do believe so
Good 👍
What ratio are you mixing for the guard now, tks
32:1 same as my trx250R
One question, in a lt50 there it goes 2 strock oil?
Yes it is a 2 stroke engine
I thought you were going to add a link for the K&N air filter? Am I just not seeing it?
My air filter came in a kit when I purchased the full mod kit for the quad. I don't have the info readily available at the moment. I'll see what I can do on finding it again.
We use that benol for bikes
I use benol for everything 2t I own.
If anyone wants to change the air filter on the lta50 Ebay go ped air filter intake and they have a 44mm machined aluminum adapter you can modify very easily. They are around 10 to 15 bucks
The transmission oil how change
There's a drain plug bolt in the bottom of one side of the cases. Remove that bolt drain oil and re fill from the top hole.😁
What type of oil did u use?

cuanto lleva de aceite que cantidad
did you change the stock intake manifold? I recently bought a 38mm carb but it does not fit in the intake manifold
No I used the stock manifold but you need to use a heat gun to heat it up and you can stretch it over the 38mm carb
I am doing this on my sons LT80 and I have read that the petcock filter/screen is so fine that it can prevent the oil from flowing through in the correct ratio. I am assuming that this isn’t true since you haven’t had trouble?
Nope 32:1 ratio same as my 250R
And what kind mix ratio are you recommend me to do it when I have my oil pump block
I run 32 to 1 ratio same as my trx250r so I only have to mix one fuel
What size jet did you change the lt50 in order to run 32:1?
Hello I have a 04 Suzuki 50 quadsport and doesn’t turn on what do you think could be I have a nice spark
For those curious, if you buy an aftermarket air filter mount (eBay or Amazon very inexpensive) / adapter stack for many GoPed scooters or similar small scooters you only need to slightly modify the holes to fit the Suzuki Mikuni VM12 carburetor mount. Takes only minutes to do. Then you can install a much better pod style filter like Uni or K&N 44mm type. Done. I have a video on my channel how I did it to my own 2005 Suzuki LTA50 mini quad.
Anyone know of any aftermarket bodywork for the 2002-2005 LTA50? I have been searching for days and no one offers it. How ridiculous. It's OEM only and a million dollars if all you want to do is install all new body and fender and hood and whatnot. Just ridiculous. And stuff for the KFX50 is even more expensive. Maier didn't have anything either. Anyone know of anything? Maybe something for a Chinese mini quad that will bolt right on? I need the footwell body and the complete frame cover bodywork. Can't find it anywhere other then OEM. :/
at 1:35, how do you remove that black round piece? I have tried everything including a Shop-Vac, and it will not come out. What's the trick???
I don't quite remember what the trick was o did it awhile ago. Needle nose pliers. It looks like it's just sitting in there from what I can tell.
@@quadjunkie007 Negative. It won't come out.
I think I just lifted straight up with some small needle nose pliers. I remember it slipping down a couple of times and starting over. It's a tight fit. I see there is a notch in the side of the black plastic but I don't think it has to align up with anything. I can look tomorrow closer at it. But very small tip needle nose pliers and pull up. Try turning the motor over and rotating it around. Make sure it's in the off position though.
@@quadjunkie007 The pump is dead. It hasn't worked in months. Which is why I want to remove it.
@horsepower house your part of the big dogs views program. Nice job.
Anyone find a good alternative to installing a better air filter on this model? I have been searching online for hours and finding nothing. I just want to install a better air filter and not use this stupid plastic air intake setup. Anyone? Anyone?.... Not seeking to pay a million dollars for the CT Racing one either. Surely there is an alternative... Same for exhaust upgrade. Anything out there other than the million-dollar CT Racing one?
Anyone have any alternatives to doing the air filter adapter thing? Something a wee less expensive than the CT Racing setup? I have been searching the internet for hours and I'm not finding anything. SHEEEEESHHHHH I just want to do a better air filter than the crappy stock one.
Nope I didn't find anything either so I broke down and spent the dough. You can buy the K&N air filter separately but you won't have the adapter to mount it.
@@quadjunkie007 Ridiculousssss
@@quadjunkie007 What about a different type of carburetor? Surely there is SOMETHING else that can fit that intake manifold and has some sort of air filter mount like many other bikes do.
@@HorsepowerHouse If you have a Machine lath You could turn one out of a piece of aluminum. The problem is there's not much demand for this small of a quad so most of the big manufacturers don't manufacture anything and the one that does has no competition. Welcome to motorsports none of it makes sense but we all do it for fun
@@quadjunkie007 ( if I had a device like that, I would not be here trying to find such a part...)
Doesn’t this bike lube the bottom end and top end... how does the bottom end get lubed if you remove?
This is for the oil injection on mixing the gas with the oil and sending it to the cylinder to get burnt and lubricate the cylinder walls with the gas. The bottom end has transmission fluid in it that sloshes around when the crank spins while running. There is a fill hole on the side of the case for the transmission fluid and a drain plug on the bottom. Hope this helps.
I’m wondering that myself, the transmission fluid is for the transmission not the bottom end/main crank shaft bearing. On regular 2 strokes, a small part of the oil air mix goes below the piston and lubes the bottom end when running. Since this motor isn’t made to allow that small seep,(assuming since it is plumbed to have that injection oil go there and to lube the cylinder rings) I feel that by blocking the oil injection off will eventually lock up your main crank.
@@christiantillman84 Fuel goes into the crankcase first and up through the transfer ports to the top of the cylinder. When you use fuel/oil mix it will lubricate the bottom end of crankcase first.
Do you recall what jets you have in it ? The kit is affordable but the want 200 for the jets
Main jet 80 Needle clip 3 down from the top
I don't remember the pilot jet I will have to check a d see if I can find the record on It
thank you much appreciated.. I’m going to purchase the kit now.
Jets themselves shouldn't cost 200 bucks. You can buy jets for like 5 bucks each from your dealer it's a stock OEM carb. Buy the jets from the dealership or parts store. I wouldn't pay 200 for jets. Now if you are buying the kit including the air filter and jets and air filter adapter different story. I was told the wouldn't sell just the jet kit though you had to buy the entire exhaust pipe kit including the carburetor kit all at once.
Actually jets are around 100 after looking more into it. Going to purchase the pipe and kn filter +adaptor and get a jet kit seperate on amazon.
Yes
good video however no need to go to all that work just block the pipe up and of course then premix at 40/1 mix as i have done that for 20 years on my track LT 50,s and LTA 50,s
OCD
What size jets are you running in yours right now I just got a 90 lt50 and I want to eliminate the oil injection system to run 40:1 ?
@@_.southern_cali_rc_5966 90 on the main jet stock I think on the pilot. Although I think I could go up a size or so on the pilot idles fine once started but must give it gas in order to start it.
I keep my oil injection and I put so much oil in the tank and itll cruise at 30mph all day with me and I weigh 250lb. My top ends last about 150 hours at almost max rpm for hours a day. Itll smoke out the whole street everytime I go by but at least my top ends last.
I don't ride it just my kids do and it does just fine pre mixed.
@@quadjunkie007 I beat the piss out of mine and nothing happens lol
Steve, I don't know if you'll see this but I have a dumb question. Why would keeping the oil injection tank and everything allow you, a heavier guy, to ride around all day? How does it help?
@@jeffglauser4108 Because me being a heavier guy puts a ton more stress on the little engine which means more heat and the more oil you can get the longer the engine is going to last because it’ll have a lot less heat with more oil so less friction
@@steve5912 and premix wouldn't provide as much oil as the injector?
What year is the quad? Is it 2 stroke, or 4 stroke?
It's a 2 stroke I believe in to 2002
I looked everywhere online for an aftermarket exhaust....i found nothing
CT racing Google it I pulled it right up. LT-A50 50 it's a package deal you have to buy the set up. They won't sell just the pipe.
ua-cam.com/video/OnwjlzpKjAE/v-deo.html
Where did you get the aluminum air /carburetor filter? Mine is smoking a lot of white smoke and ozzing oil out of muffler and oil injection has been removed? Any suggestions
Sounds like it could be time for a rebuild or it's just oil build up and a oil Saturated exhaust system. I bought the package from CT racing it came with the pipe filter piston and aluminum round thing that attaches to your carburetor for the K&N air filter to fit. You also have to send a head in to have it milled it's an expensive package but there's quite a bit of difference between that and stock. Plus you need to remove any of the restrict or plates that were put in by the factory if it hasn't been done already in the muffler and on the intake.
Why block it off?.
I am pre mixing my gas and oil together and no longer need the oil injection system. This way I can control how much oil is being used. The oil injection system run extremely rich and if they ever get clogged up you'll burn up the motor this solves that issue. I have 3 quads it allows me to mix one set of gas and use it across all 3.
I think Roybal engineering makes a nice boot still. I don't think I spelt their name right.
Hell ya dude. Nice to see new R content. 👍 I use the 86 boot. The 86 boot doesn't have the whole on the side. Check mine out ua-cam.com/video/Q90No5eRc38/v-deo.html
After having this done for awhile, have you seen anything negative from it?
Nope it runs like a champ.
Hi Robert, on the pull start housing is there a hose connected to it? I know a brake line screws in it but was wondering if there is a hose as well. Thanks in advance.
Yes there is the hose coming from the oil tank reservoir going into the pump to push it into the carburetor and get sucked into the cylinder. I blocked the intake off going into the pump and removed the reservoir.
That hose thats connected to that small inch or two steel cylinder, does that connect to anything or is it some kind of overflow or breather? I just bought one used and its spitting out some kind of gear oil and its not currently connected to anything. On your video it seems as if the little hose is leading to the pull start. Thanks in advance.
That's the oil injection hose. There was a hose coming from the oil tank to the injector pump that's what I removed.
Thanks for the quick response Robert. The hose that i am referring to is the very small one that is connected to the silver looking cylinder and on your video the hose seems to lead to the pull start. At .49 on your video you almost zoom in on it before you head back to the table.
At .49 on video its on the top left side of the shot.
That is the crank case breather tube connected to that silver cylinder.
do you have change the jetpilot carb to compensate the leaner air / fuel mixture with the pre-mix?
Yes the I had to re jet it and go up pretty big on the main jet.
What jets did you end up using and where did you get them from? Having a hard time finding bigger jets
@@quadjunkie007 Yeah what jets did you go with
Hey man, any other vids on the LT-A50? Buddy of mine gave me a 2003 that won’t start. Already have a new carburetor and one foam filter element on the way. I also plan to do what you’ve shown in this video.

Yes I changed the jets out on the carb.
