    This is a very disingenuous conversation about "ai artists". Yes, you need to understand the ai tools and their limitations. And yes, you need spend the appropriate amount of time and invest in subscriptions to render until you get what you actually want without settling. That is all true. BUT! where this conversation is misleading is all of that can be learned in a day. ONE DAY. Not a lifetime. Not through decades of honing skill. Want proof? Some of these tools you see being used in commercial work had only been out for a week before they were utilized in that work. ai wasnt even real in 2022. I am a fan of ai and believe it is the future but there is just as much crying on one side from traditional artists saying ai isn't art as there are from people calling themselves ai artists defending their work. The responsible thing to do as an "ai artist" to remain humble and ALWAYS give the tools 80% of the credit. If you use them, you will never be responsible for more than that.

    • @XRAISpotlight
      @XRAISpotlight Місяць тому

      Another thing that came out from the conversation is that creating something that feels homogenous requires many additional skills like color grading, compositing and more that are not necessarily learnt in a couple of days. On top of that there is the curation that is a skill that is developed and refined in time. I don't mean to disagree with what you said but just add on top of it 😉

    • @reddjinn911
      @reddjinn911 Місяць тому

      @XRAISpotlight I completely appreciate what you are trying to say here but its all built on top of the 80% i was referring to. When someone colorgrades a feature film, they are buried in the credits of 400 other people for a reason (I colorgrade for a living so no knock there) but what's happening here is an ai artist is taking credit for all 400 people. It's only been out for 2 years and people are already defending the work they made with ai instead of just acknowledging how little they really contributed to the process.

      If all this can be done and learned in a day then: Why don't you go do it? Go outcompete me in the marketplace and secure relationships with music labels, advertising agencies and clients. It's so easy right? Just go do it then. We'll all be waiting.

    • @billybomandesign

      @@reddjinn911 So then whats the "problem"? If you mastered ComfyUI and Open Source tools, LoRas for product and facial training, Midjourney, Flux, Stable Diffusion, Runway, Luma, Minimax, Kling AI, Magnific, Leonardo and other upscalers, All then Gen-AI features in Photoshop - All in ONE day, thats truly incredible man. You must be some savant... OR, you're just vastly underestimating the tools and your own ability to use them. Go ahead, show us your AI video work, commercials, AI music videos etc. We're all waiting,

      @XRAISpotlight Місяць тому

      You made a very good point. The interview was done around a month ago and we still described for the major part the workflow he has been using to create the video before the interview 😅

    • @billybomandesign
      @billybomandesign Місяць тому

      Because this one done on the very first version of Lumas Dream Machine before camera controls were put in, back then there was no start and end frame. Runway Gen-3 Alpha was released during the project, and back then it was only text to video, which was also another big challenge as the entire ending is all text to video, color graded, edited, overlayed in several layers on some shots to get the sequences right. You always have to work with what the tools are at the time of the project - and they're all rapidly developing as well as new AI video models constantly coming out.

    Something important to this discussion I've realized about myself is that the moment I realize that a piece of content (vocals, textures, 3d models, or narrative text) is AI generated, I devalue it. It's not entirely a conscious decision, but it happens to me that when I realize something is AI crafted and not human crafted, it is instantly worth less of my admiration/interest. If instead I know that a human was very selective in using generative tools as part of a larger human directed and artfully human crafted process, it retains its value to me. I wonder if this is a common experience for fellow developers or even non-developers.

  • @beardordie5308
    @beardordie5308 2 місяці тому

    It's been a boon to my productivity. It has sped up things I could have coded myself, but why do that when it can generate it correctly (in one to three shots), understandably, and maybe even with a feature or two I didn't think about. It also saves me from time sucking documentation lookups just to find package method names or signatures. I also really love using it to paste something that I wrote and ask it for a critique that highlights any pitfalls I may have missed. Keep in mind that unless you ask it to be critical, it generally just agrees that what you're asking for is a great idea even if a totally different approach or a built in system can achieve your actual goals much better.

    When you mistrust yourself, you can double check your methods, when you distrust a coworker they can walk you through their process. With ai, there is usually no way of viewing the decision process, so trust can either be total or requires manual validation. Were far from total trust so its up to the user to decide if checking ais results is quicker and safer than creating the "list" (context?) by themselves

    Thank you for the interview. I just finished the game and enjoyed it a lot. The story, the humor, the animation and the interesting puzzles... everything worked really well. Also the acting/ voice acting of the characters was fantastic. For example the magician, when he changes character, hilarious :D That the VR 3D tools arent developing so fast has different reasons i think. one is, as you said that the medium you work for is the same you use as a tool to create content..and when there is not so much VR titles in developement, especially by the big gaming studios, then the tools also dont get the necessary attention and investment. it also might be a problem that it needs a new workflow and things are more experimental than with the classical approach. So even a lot of VR developer will use the tools they are used to and where they are sure that they have all functions they need. However i love that you did this game with Quill because the style is so unique. Quill creations like the "tales from soda island" series are still among the best VR Animations i know, they are timeless because you see when something is handcrafted with love and passion.
