Great vid, thanks very much. As a future vanlifer I'm fascinated to understand the possible challenges you face when wild camping in the UK- and you are always honest and drama-free, which is brilliant. I really get what you're saying about sometimes constant moving can get a bit tiresome. I've been travelling for the last 4 years on my canal boat, and there are those times you want to stay still for a couple of months. Some people are true nomads, but there are also people also like a break from the nomad life now and then. I do still think you should consider a separating toilet instead of a cassette, for wildcamping. No need to visit elsan points, just dig a hole and bury your solid waste in a compostable bag every few days (which is much less horrible to deal with when its separated out). And the urine (as long as there no chemicals added) can go into rivers or just use a public toilet. I'm really impressed how you manage to get around with such a long vehicle train, and you never get stressed. My thinking is to use a smaller van, so I can get into more places, and I'll put most of my tools and gear in storage. Essentially I want to travel like a tourist, with only food and clothes in the van, plus a few emergency tools and bit of kit. For example in summer, my heavier winter clothes will go into storage, and vice versa during winter. This is a bit left field, but have you considered a very small log burner? I have diesel heating in my boat, but the coal stove transformed it during cold weather. Coals in a stove will keep giving off heat all night long, so the boat interior still has a lovely dry heat when you get up in the morning, and you never get condensation It might look a bit weird with a chimney, but it is removable for when you move, and the steady all-night warmth is a real contrast to the heat I get from the diesel central heating system.
A possible challenge in Scotland is that "wild camping" laws exclude motorised activity. Disposal of human waste as you describe in Scotland is also illegal.
@@theamateurboater5892 Thanks buddy for the kind words, I do think a smaller van would be better for off grid, and your idea about storage is great, we are putting a lot into storage on Friday, as the caravan idea hasn’t happened yet, we haven’t really found a problem emptying the cassette up here, there are lots of aires and free elsans, not sure it will be the same in England and Wales, love the idea of the coal fire, we had one in our tent, it was brilliant, look forward to seeing you when you get started on your vanlifer journey, have some good chats then, have a great Christmas and new year 🙏👍👊🏴🚌🐕🎄
I know exactly what Laura meant about that forest walk being eerie. Lovely though and great for young Chancer 👍 Great park up too. I bet that would be a good place for spotting pine marten. I can’t stand being too hot. How people have their central heating on all the time I have no idea. I can’t bear it when I go into a shop and it’s like a furnace 🥵My house is cold but I light the fire and once I’m warmed up off it goes 😂 I’ve always been someone who’d rather be too cold than too hot. Wishing you both a very merry Christmas. Hope you have a wonderful time with your family. Nikki x 🎅🏼🎄🏴🚌🌨️
@@Remonyyork Thanks Nikki, we are exactly the same about being hot, we fell asleep earlier and woke up feeling like we were in a sauna it was horrible, that was a great park up, I never mentioned it but I got lost on the way back, I was panicking because it got dark, have a great Christmas and the best new year,🙏❤️👊👍🏴🚌🐕🐕🎄

@@Garyandfiona Thanks Gary and Fiona, really enjoyed it there, safe travels 🙏👍👊🏴🚌
Great vlog guys. On the battery front it looks like your BMS has got confused. Maybe needs draining the battery and recalibration once it’s full charged again. Is your Stirling charger on the standard lithium setting or have you set it to some custom settings? Our Victron setup when we had the Comanche was a bit flakey on the settings too and needed the occasional recalibration.
Hi Steve, thanks for the information, I hadn’t thought about that, maybe I can do that, as for the Stirling charger I’m really not sure as it was already in the van, and it’s very confusing as to how to reset it, but I will look into it, thanks again for the ideas and safe travels 🙏👊👍🏴🚌

Steve don’t waste your money!! With the Sargent system you will never see your batteries at 14. I have agms and have only ever seen it when they were brand new. I won’t have lithium when they fall off the cliff your out of power. After living in my Autotrail for 5 years I’ve just bought a generator. I will say I use it if I need the power it’s out. I’ve learnt not to be sucked into the add Solar shite after summer just gone where it was our worst year for solar. I have just bought a noco so if they need charging and repairing I can do that. These Autotrails can be constant money outlay if you let them. The Sargent system will always lie to you so better to use something that stands alone from it .
@@jellytot9838 your right but we don’t have the seargent system anymore, it’s all victron for charging and inverter, we use our generator a lot it’s great, have you got a 2kw or 1kw, ours is only 1kw but thinking of upgrading it, no more room for more solar on our roof and it’s useless now anyway, I think a lot of my trouble is not understanding what voltage I should put into the victron app, I will get it right one day, thanks for your help and advice, stay safe out there 🙏👊👍🚌🏴
@@wanderingbychoice we got a champion 2200 so you don’t have the seargent box with fuses and the control panel above your door along with the truma control? All I can say is solar doesn’t give the power anymore. In 2021 I could run my tv with solar coming in all day. That stopped 2 years ago. I bought a 400 quid inverter it knackered my batteries it requires to much power. Since I ripped that out my batteries now charge properly. The most I ever see is 13.6 even plugged in for a week the odd time I use a site. If I want plugs my generator works all my power needs. My all powers services when generator cannot. Your inverter is probably sucking the life out of your batteries but we all have different needs. I hummed and rrd because of people being pc on the generator I’m sorry if I knew 5 years ago I would have just bought it. I had to replace my batteries because of the inverter I’m not a fan of lithium and the agms have been superb. Good luck with it though Steve 👍
@ cheers buddy, I have still got the sergeant unit and control panel, just not the charger, been disconnected, fortunately I can turn off the inverter, as you say it uses to much power, that side of things works really well, did some research and seems that lithium hate being on hook up constantly, which for our first year they pretty much were, so might be damaged, you have convinced me to upgrade our generator when we can, I have no qualms about using a generator, been nice chatting and thanks for taking the time to help me out.🙏🙏👍👊🏴🚌

@@DesmondsDonders I Think my whole set up needs a look at, been on hook up all week, never gone above 13.8 might try your settings, we really enjoyed Lybster and watching the fishermen sorting through the catches, Lorna has selective hearing, don’t blame her lol, stay safe guys 🙏👍👊🥰🚌🏴
@@wanderingbychoice What on board charger do you use?
@ victron multiplus compact, 👍
The chargers in caravans and I assume it's the same for motorhomes stop charging at a certain point ,never charging to capacity. If you want capacity you need to take out the battery and charge separately. This should be done any way periodically for battery longevity. Just for info tho because it doesn't help much
@@keith4881 Thanks Keith I never thought of that, think I would need a lithium charger to do that, our set up is a bit weird to us as it was all done before we purchased it, which doesn’t help, thanks for your advice though, safe travels 🙏👊👍🚌🏴
We love that part of Scotland, know it quite well.
@@maryfennell9672 we hadn’t seen much of that part Mary, we really liked the north east coast, safe travels 🙏👊👍🥰🏴🚌
