    I am curious about FNP programs; hence, a search showed your video. I am a student of WGU, presently in the MSNED program. I was not aware that WGU now offers BSN- FNP. ( my BSN was done at a brick-and-mortar school, SUNY, Downstate).----- Congrats!

      Thank you. I have a friend who did the MSN ed and loved it she went back for FNP and a friend who did FNP with me and went back for PMHNP. Depending on where you are in the program you can switch if you've done the core MSN classes you can start the NP. Speak to your program mentor. It was as difficult as any other program and you will need 3 preceptors in Family or PMH. You will need 600 hours which is 100 more than any other program and that 100 is a lot of hours. I would still recommend the program but the price has risen. ANd I graduated in 22 so I would call the school for updated information. Good luck to you :)

    Hello, I am completing my BSN through Capella and should be done in roughly 6 months. I am trying to decide on an FNP program and WGU looks like it will be the winner. I was hoping for more of a hybrid option, but the "brick and mortar" options are few and far between. And EXPENSIVE. I am also a Floridian and wanted to know how you went about locating preceptors? I am concerned about this as I have read horror stories about this online. Also wondering about the job outlook here in FL. I see that the salaries appear to be very low just doing general NP job searches. Is this what you found as well? Sorry for all of the questions, but I was excited to see someone from FL take this path

    • @ItsDanaKay
      @ItsDanaKay 7 місяців тому

      Hey thats fine totally good questions! The school was online except for preceptors. I have a whole video series on preceptors because it was tough. Check them out and let me know if you have more questions. But I was able to find what I needed. The salary for fl ranges anywhere fore 100 to 120k for family practice office new grad. But there are other options if you wanted to work in hospitality type role or you have specialty experience like oncology/GI/ surgery experience you may be able to tailor your resume for a better acute hospital role. Hope this was helpful.

    Hi. How do employers feel about an online nurse practitioner degree? I have heard mixed reviews but I’m really interested in the masters in fnp from WGU.

    • @ItsDanaKay
      @ItsDanaKay 8 місяців тому

      That is such a good question. I guess it depends on the individual state and employer. There are more online degrees in many fields today. Also it’s not 100% online. I did have to do over 600 hours of clinical rotation. One trick you can do is look up the company that you were applying for on LinkedIn and look up employees in the field from that company and see where they have their degree.

The terms are six months long just like the terms in the BSN program you can accelerate the first term. If you look closer at the video I talk about how and what classes I was able to celebrate in my first term the transferable msn classes that are found in other courses for wgu i was only able to accelerate those nothing NP reLated. @@eli3102 i think in the beginning at the start of the program it mattered more. People who get their degree from WGU are familiar with the format, and how to complete the assessments and papers in the APA format. Now that the program is popular it’s been two years now. I think it more depends on your recommendation letter, your application and things like that however i personally think people familiar with the WGU will find it less challenging there is a small learning curve to get the hang of how straightforward WGU is. But anyone can do the program.

    I am FNP and considering the PMHNP , is there a support group of other students or study group. How do you feel getting a job with this degree since theres no GPA, do think it’s respected. Thank you and congratulations

      Yes there are several Facebook groups for wgu. Both programs are new so I would recommend joining all the master health related classes and the FNP groups as some overlap. There IS a GPA. As a graduate from an accredited school I received job offers were I applied. Only the rate was lower than I expected but I am in FL. Also there is a high need for PMH nps in all states even need grads are given bonus to start so I do not think you will have and issue. And Thank you!

      @Mrsdanamae ok great thanks, yes unfortunately with the FNP the salaries are low this happen to me but now 2.5 years in and I'm finally making a decent wage. I'm going to apply because this school appears most cost affordable. People were reporting no GPA I guess that's other classes

      @@dahliadobson4283 it’s kinda hard to find it on the bottom of transcript and it includes the transfer credits. Mine state 3.6. But wgu states passing and graduating will sit between 3.0 and 4.0 all passes classes are considered a B. But I underhand I just wanted my bsn then my FNP and it was affordable.

      @@ItsDanaKayI'm also in Florida and on my last term doing clinicals. If you don't mind me asking, was the rate offered by employers less than a 6 figure income? I'm expecting it will be a paycut from my previous job but hopefully it won't be that much lower.

      @@LD-vu2li so you would have to make over 48/hr 40 hours weekly to make min 100k year. On job was 46 an hour primary care it did Offer 2 weeks paid vacation ceus certs etc decent benefits but would not budge a dollar. On job was 50/hr per diem GI rounding in hospital full time hours but no benefits no overtime no extra anything. One job was outpatient in various settings under their name but they had a tier no matter how much nursing or prior clinical exp etc they had annual of 97k starting no negotiating.

    Thank you for this video! I’ve been trying to get some insight on WGU’s FNP program. I finished their MSN Leadership program in 2021 and I plan on applying to their post master’s FNP program. I’m glad to know that clinical is in the final semester. Do they allow students to use clinical placement companies such as NPHub if students have trouble finding a preceptor?

    • @ItsDanaKay
      @ItsDanaKay Рік тому

      There have been so many changes I would clarify with the clinical team. I would feel horrible about giving the wrong information. I did have to pay for one of my preceptors but there was no paperwork stating I could not at the time. Also if you have connection or option you could “secure”your clinical before you started. I did not use the hubs. It was so expensive.

      I'm currently on my last term of the FNP program, and unfortunately, WGU does not allow us to pay 3rd parties for clinical placement.

      How was the msn leadership program?

      @@DevTheDudeRN it was pretty straightforward. I was in the program during COVID so they had to make adjustments. Before I graduated they made changes to the curriculum for the incoming classes. A previous coworker of mine completed the new program and did just fine.
