Just Dig It is a place for me to share my metal detecting adventures. I currently live in east Tennessee and love to be outdoors.
Short Metal detecting trip looking for an old house and digging some old stuff | Minelab Equinox 900
Headed out into the woods today to see if I could locate another old house site that I saw on a map. I found the site of the house and had a little time to detect once I found it.

Actually thinking of retiring to TN. I love metal detecting.
I love it here. It's a beautiful place and there is a lot to do with a short drive.
It's been so long that you put out a video I forgot I was subscribed to you 😂
Yes, I know. Sorry about that. Between the weather and obligations, I've had a hard time getting a chance to get out metal detecting. The weather should be getting better now.
Cool Video 👍🏻🌲🌲🌲🌲
Thank you 👍
Looks like a pretty good spot with potential. I'm ready for the ground to thaw out so i can get back at it.
I think so too. I can't wait to get back out there. Around here, the ground doesn't freeze as bad under the leaves in the woods.
That tapered iron looks like a drift pen iron heads use to line up holes on steel beams. I used smaller ones to line up holes on large flanged ductwork and blow pipe when I was in the trade.
I didn't think about that!
Great vid sir all I'm gonna say is if your new and learning metal deducting don't plz don't ever never ever use a probe ok that's for skilled detector people a probe is stupid just cut a good plug and keep your hole round LMAO anyone using a probe is a environmental person that don't understand that if you cut C PLUG where you didn't break the circle it's fine i just got our of the hospital i will prove this post
Thanks for the advice.
Looks like a scythe blade.
That is what I thought too at first, then I saw some white paint on it. Also seemed a bit too thin for a blade. I'm still not sure what it is.
What do you do with all of those iron pieces? Good endeavor
Right now most of them are just setting in my basement. I plan to start using electrolysis to clean the rust off of some of them and put them on a shelf.
The piece with loop and a wider loop is the center part of old wooden single tree. Used to pill a plow or wagon with a horse.
Thanks! I thought that it might be something like that but wasn't sure.
Aren’t you afraid of damaging a coin when you use the probe.
It's made of brass so it shouldn't scratch stuff. I only use it in parks where most of what I find is modern clad so a scratch really won't matter. Not needing to dig saves a lot of time.
By the way, I am really enjoying your videos. Great job!
I really appreciate that, thanks for watching!
I'm also in east Tennessee, Greenville area, do you have any issues with folks telling you that you can't detect in the fairgrounds or parks? I'd love to , but I have been told it wasn't approved.
I haven't had any issues here and know of others that also detect local parks. I think it is up to the county that the park is in.
Those old iron rings are what I call, Appalachian donuts. My 10 year old grandson calls them that now. Got him started detecting when he was 7. Yep, we live in East Tennessee. Half way between Knoxville and Chattanooga
That is the first one that I have found. I just got started detecting last year and haven't spent much time at old house sites yet. I hope to spend more time detecting old house sites this year. Maybe I'll find some more Appalachian doughnuts!
The iron ring is horse tack I bet the other piece is as well
I thought that I might be. Thanks for watching!
👌
Thanks for watching!
VAMOS QUE VAMOS MEU AMIGO TAMOS JUNTOS SEMPRE NA BATALHA
Thanks for Watching!
Definitely cool stuff. Best of luck on the next hunt.
Thanks for watching, I'm looking forward to the next hunt too! I wasn't able to get out this week due to the weather.
Cool video and a pretty good hunt. I don't mind digging up old iron or anything old. It's getting me excited to start digging a 1817 farm. It's had a few houses on the property over those years. Can't wait to see what I find.
Good luck on your hunt, it sounds like you have a great spot to dig!
That square piece looks like a door off a potbelly stove.
Good point. I didn't think about that.
Came to say that as well, cool find
All that jumping and cheering makes the shiny stuff drop to the ground
Yes it does.
There's Nothing Better Then A Good Coin Spill, Great Video !! 🌲🌲🌲🌲
You just never know what you will find out there.
Good video
Thanks for watching!
Great show

The Lead Thing With The Wire I Think It Might Be A Bale Seal, Great Video 🌲🌲🌲🌲
I didn't think about that. I took another look at it. I can't see any markings on it, but it is worn really bad. I guess a bale seal would make the most sense. Thanks for watching!
Lots of coins out there awesome
Yes there is. Some of them are older too. Maybe I'll find some silver there sometime.
Nice technique with the probe!
It really saves a lot of time. Thanks for watching.
What kind of metal detector are you using
It's a Equinox 900. It's a good detector.
I have the 900 also. Really like it.
Interesting finds..
I had fun searching. Thanks for watching!
Cool hunt, with some nice finds. Glad you were able to get into the baseball field this time. Thanks for the video.
There is so much stuff in the ground at that park. I don't think it has been detected much.
Even though you didn't get into the baseball field, it was still a good day detecting. Thanks for bringing us along.
I've never had a bad time metal detecting. I look forward to every chance I get to go!
Lol I literally spoke too soon 😂
Thanks for watching!
That sink stopper is old if it's solid I think they are plastic these days idk tho for sure
Yep, all of the new ones that I have seen are plastic.
Boom let's go let's go treasure and adventure ✌👵
Let's go!
Best pinpointer IMO is the XP. Don't have to worry about batteries and it gets the best depth for any pinpointer on the market.
I would like to try one.
I like the probe, just ordered 1 from Amazon
I didn't use one for a long time, but I never hunt without it now. It saves a lot of time.
when you got your Garrett in The plug…..remember to de-tune it once or even twice ……. to narrow the pinpoint zone…..thanks for sharing
Thanks for the info! I'll give that a try the next time I'm out with it. Do you run the Garrett with the sensitivity all the way up or in the middle most of the time?
@@JustDigIt1819 most of the time 3 max …..must reminder to de-tune …..can be sensitive next (to close) digging tool and your detector so remember to keep a good distance
I started with a nokta pointer, the grey and orange one, it was okay, but if you held the pointer point blank to the target after a couple seconds the beeping would slow even though it was touching, I ended up gifting it to my mom when I bought her a detector, now I use the mi4/MI6, which I think is the best sounding pointer ever, but it has some quality control issues I think, I had one sorta break, and I seen other UA-camrs have problems with theirs too I've never used a Garret or Minelab pointer, but I would try them if someone gifted me one, the new nokta accupoint looks horrible to me, I wouldn't use the accupoint even if I got it for free
Xp is the best. Hands down
I like the Minelab profind other than the falsing when I set it down. I like that it can differentiate iron from non-ferrous metals. I've only used the Garret once, so I can't say much about it yet. They both have good range.
I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on an XP. I would like to try one.
1930's
I didn't realized it was that old. Thanks for watching!
Product promotion tokens
Thank you for letting me know.
boom let's go let's go treasure and adventure ✌👵
Let's go! Thanks for watching!
Cool video, all the minelab machines look the same to me, except the vanquish, i guess nokta has the same problem of all thier machines looking the same too, i didnt read your title right away and i was wondering if that was a xterra, a equinox or a manticore, i had no idea lol
They do look all look the same. I probably should start mentioning what I'm using. Thanks for watching!
The manticore screen definitely looks different from the others
Lots of clad! ❤
It's been a good park for finding clad. Some of it has been pretty old. I keep hoping that I'll find some wheat pennies or silver. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for vid.
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Nice find! ❤
Thanks! 😊
Really like that old U.T. Vols belt buckle. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
cut a plug.... the parks dept is going have cow digging holes like that...
I do cut plugs in the areas that has grass and I always fill in the holes and replace the grass if there was any there in the first place. I also avoiding detecting in nice grass when it is dry. In this video, the ground is really dry, so I chose to detect in a area that really isn't a park. It's a spot where there are lot's of bear spots in the grass and nobody hangs out. It's a spot where they park lots of vehicles and boat trailers and set up tents when they have regattas. I've never had any complaints from officials or private citizens. I've only received positive feed back for making the ground look undisturbed and removing trash from the ground. The only complaints I have received have been from comments on here. Maybe I should show more shots of the ground after I fill in back in. I usually don't record that just to save space and keep videos shorter.
You had me at East TN! I’m from Maryville but did’t detect yet when I lived there. Now I live in Fl and hunt the beaches and in the ocean around Clearwater. Great video. I subscribed!
I go to Maryville quite a bit picking up antique furniture for my wife. I've never detected there though. I wish that I could detected beaches more. I usually go to the Cherry Grove area of North Myrtle once a year. We are going there in October this year. Thanks for the sub!
I use a magnetic screw driver in my local parks. Not allowed to dig.
I like using my probe on shallow targets. Mine isn't strong enough to get deeper targets out. The soft brass just bends. I pack a screw driver and give that a try sometime.
To the person who asked the question about digging in parks. I live in Ohio and you definitely get away with it using a probe or hand tools. I noticed carrying a shovel even though you dig and replace the plug(but when the ground is dry similar to this video a plug is going to look bad) there is always a Karen complaining. Permissions are easier because they usually understand you are replacing your plug and the grass will come back after some good rains.
I try to avoid the nice grassy areas when it is really dry. This spot is a good example. There are lots of bare spots and it isn't an area where people go to play. They park vehicles and boat trailers all over this area when they have regattas.
A bad day detecting is better than a good day at work 😂
I agree 100%.
