Elton John - Live At The Hammersmith Odeon - 12/19/1982
Plenty of upgrades are emerging from the woodwork (thank you to a very kind person by the name of Mike and the hard work of one @Gregsynthwizard, who also has extra goodies from other places), so any full uploads on this channel from now on will solely concentrate on those.
With uploads from the earlier Hammersmith shows (12/14 & 12/15) going down well, here's the full 12/19. The show is almost complete, barring a few minor cuts, and in very good lossless quality without the tape stretching issue that plagues the old copy. The tape does slightly degrade during Bennie And The Jets but it's nothing too drastic thankfully! I'll dedicate this upload to @GregsynthWizard, who really had a blast transferring this show, and Tommyg, a big fan of the Prime Live era.
1982 is renowned for the tempos on songs to be flying fast and this concert is no exception to the rule. Elton is nearing the very end of the tour with this being night 11 of 16 at the Hammersmith Odeon and he, along with the band, remains in strong shape, despite a gruelling touring schedule with no sign of the energy on stage relenting in the slightest - it's admirable how Elton's voice was able to stand up so well singing night after night. This show would strongly compare to 12/14 and has performances that are arguably better with a notable aspect being Dee Murray's bass playing which contains some of his best work on the tour. To the performances....
Love Lies Bleeding boasts some terrific playing from Dee and Elton warming his voice up (albeit he isn't as coarse as other versions during the era), All The Girls Love Alice features a small cut in the first verse but what we have is excellent, Someone Saved My Life Tonight is a strong version for the year with the harmonies being more on point, Better Off Dead has Elton flubbing the words and an audience member whistling along for good measure, Empty Garden is another fine rendition with Elton's strong vocals a highlight, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road sounds great, The Bitch Is Back boasts a powerful vocal from Elton, Pinball Wizard is flying fast but again has some brilliant guitar work from Davey Johnstone, Song For Guy shows off the awesome Steinway to best effect, Elton's Song is yet another rock-solid version from the year, Chloe showcases the prowess of the four-piece group and Where To Now St. Peter is one of the highlights of the show with the band giving it 110% and Elton's vocals being superb.
Blue Eyes shows off Elton's lower range along with the tightness of the rhythm section, Where Have All The Good Times Gone features Elton and the band tearing through the number with great enthusiasm, Rocket Man has everyone firing on all cylinders and Elton going all out in the improvisation section, Bennie And The Jets is thankfully less eventful than the previous version on the channel with some amusing phrasing in the third chorus, Elton having fun during the call and response (to the point where you can hear him clearly shouting off the microphone!) and delivering a smooth solo. All Quiet On The Western Front sounds a lot better than a single currently 148th in the charts, Your Song features plenty of powerful singing, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting has an aggressive delivery from Elton and the band match with a ton of energy, Daniel contains some fine guitar work from Davey, Crocodile Rock is like an express train in terms of speed with strong vocals and the Rock And Roll Medley is a very fun way to end the show with Jingle Bells referenced.
ENJOY!
Note - With Dee Murray having a stellar night at the office, he deserves pride and place alongside Elton in the photo used!

Because @EthanThompson-Murray is extremely lazy and cannot be bothered to put full concerts onto UA-cam, he decided to ask me to do a favour and upload from one of his all-time favourite Elton tours - The Reg Strikes Back tour! After everything that had occurred so far in the evening, you'd be expecting a simple end of proceedings. Unfortunately that wouldn't be the case as this upgraded audio highlights. As is the norm during Bennie And The Jets during the early/mid 1980s, a piano bench would go flying in one direction or another, usually backstage, but on this occasion Elton would throw this towards an orchestra pit...

When thinking about what to preview from this gig, a song renowned for flying tempos during this era had to be top of the list. This version underlines the strength of the harmonies and Davey Johnstone's superb guitar playing with Elton trying to control the tempo. Enjoy!

"This is a song from the Captain Fantastic album..... Which would apply to Nigel Olsson if I get my hands on him at this very moment it's called Better Off Dead!" The infamous gig where Nigel Olsson failed to turn up which left Elton no choice but to soldier on with Davey Johnstone and Dee Murray as a three-piece act, leading Elton to set the tempos throughout the evening. The whole show is an ...

To end this fine concert's brief appearance on the channel, an Elton classic that always rank highly in terms of go-to performances. Despite this being relatively early in the stretch of the 16-night run of concerts done at the Hammersmith Odeon, Elton throws little caution to the wind with an assertive vocal delivery. The third chorus features him singing "diesel train" all on a C5, randomly r...

An integral part of @GregsynthWizard's excellent Discord page is a more recent feature in the shape of Cover of the Week which allows members to showcase their many musical talents. One of the highlights from this era would be the combination of Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Parts 1 & 2 with the earlier versions having Part 2's tempo be closer to the album version. I wouldn't usually be a huge fan of Sad Songs (Say So Much) from this era as the extended introductions and Elton thrashing his voice into the ground isn't quite my cup of tea. The vocal performance here is fantastic, with Elto...

@@theeltonbootlegs5281vocal rest is an amazing thing. Was not suggesting he had nodes. I know as I aged it became much easier to "blow out" my vocals with strain and fatigue ... I always recover with vocal rest. You can hear how hard he was pushing on the nights he was struggling. Essentially yelling ... Sometimes the artist can't hear themselves if the mix is not good. And pure energy can cause one to push too hard. You would think he might know how to navigate all this after so many years ... But I hear Mariah Carey strain, and no doubt she has great vocal technique. Sometimes age, health, sound and energy dont work in your favor.

@@debmurray2734 He does have nodules here - that's the main cause of the voice sounding like it does. The rest of the American tour sees his voice yo-yo in terms of condition & quality and that, along with the following Australian tour, resulted in him having vocal surgery in January 1987
