A Very Bad Landing! New Years At Hilton Head Island!!
We kicked off the New Year with a trip to Hilton Head Island, where we enjoyed exploring the Harbour Town Lighthouse and the iconic golf course. We indulged in some fresh oysters before wrapping up the celebrations and heading back south to Tallahassee. If you enjoy these videos, be sure to subscribe to the channel and follow along for more adventure in the SR22!

CIRRUS SR22: FAILURE Over WASHINGTON DC! It's About To Get Messy!!
Переглядів 7 тис.Місяць тому
In a pinch to log some flight hours, I planned an unforgettable trip to see the iconic monuments in Washington, D.C. After completing the Washington DC SFRA course online, I felt confident and ready for the 3.5-hour journey. The aircraft was fueled, systems checked, and everything looked normal! Cruising along halfway through the flight, everything seemed routine-until a yellow CAS message popp...

If I don’t hear my three chirps from the stall just before touchdown on my 22T G7 then it will not be a smooth landing
Why is it odd for a jet like this to fly VFR? Is it because they usually go IFR and way higher?
Exactly
What kind of watch is the gentleman in the light blue shirt wearing?
Your dad is a badass.. lol.
Andrew, thanks for introducing us to your beautiful mom. I don’t know how she got hooked up with your dad?
Really cool
A little porpoise action goin' on there... a little fast?!
He's telling you to turn to a heading of 255° in order to get you set up for the final, and then you can, turn inbound directly on the final when you're ready. It's basically just a controller getting you turned in the right direction, likely to clear a portion of his airspace or continue to sequence in aircraft behind you.
I’ve had a bad landing after a long flight. Fatigue was definitely to blame. Flying for hours, with just a quick gas stop, is both tiring and boring. Small aircraft the droning engine noise does wear me out like a long car drive.
Any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing.
For someone like me who just got their privates, this is inspiring! ATX would be proud
lol. During perhaps the most critical phase of flight, dude decides to run a commercial…….
It was a good video, but I thought the same
Tallahassee approach control should not have cleared you for the visual until he/she pointed out the Cherokee and confirmed you had the traffic. Technically, once you’re cleared for the visual the pilot can maneuver in a normal manner at pilot’s discretion for the approach. Approach separation is not the local controller’s job. I also agree with you that the clearance was confusing. He gave you a heading and cleared you for the visual. Once you’re cleared for the visual, all heading and altitude restrictions are N/A unless otherwise instructed.
I agree, confusing approach clearance
Approach separation is controllers main job ! Thats what he is paid to do. Thats why they are called Controller!
Another good video, thank you. I was waiting for the 'very bad landing' but it looked pretty good to me.
Haha, I guess the camera stabilizer made up for it
What’s that plane? First time I’ve seen this channel.
Cirrus SR22 G6
I know right? How have i not found this guy sooner?
I'd be like wtf did you just say. Way too much chatter going on.
Good job of not fighting the Porpuise! I am a low time pilot (around 500 hrs) and tried to sit my phone on the dash to record a cool night landing, completely bothched it. Maybe you have several thousand hours and setting up all of the Go Pros is no distraction, but for me just a little thing I did out of the ordinary train of thought screwed up an otherwise fairly routine landing. Cool video though, great looking plane as well. Is that a G7?
The cameras certainly take some getting used to at first. G6. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed!
Another good one. Got my private in HHI when it was 49J not HXD, back in the mid eighties. Very low key, only 1 commercial flight a day from ATL. If you take off runway six as you did and fly 360 for about 4 mins you get to my home airport now ARW. Check it out sometime, cheap gas and close to historic Beaufort. Way more laid back than HHI. Keep up the good work.
Me living 5 minutes away from there is crazyyy
Another great video, boy, your good at your job, a few videos ago I sent a message, I got a reply from Francis, I assume that it was from your dad, best wishes, Scotland
Yes
@golfcoastpilot cheers, Scotland,
What dose it mean to have traffic that is option?
The traffic in front was cleared “for the option” meaning they can do a touch and go, full stop landing, etc. it matters for the pilot in the vid because if the traffic in front decides to do a full stop, it might take them longer to exit the runway. The controller telling this pilot that information allows him to decide if he needs to increase his following distance at all.
So, while generally radios like this have a limited range they work off line of sight, most public service agencies either build their own tower or contract a cell tower to install the nodes. However, these guys are up high shooting signal down, so their line of sight is further and that’s why they have connection from far away with a handheld. You can also assume the airport probably has a relay amp allowing their signal to flow out further and probably directional nodes allowing communication in line with the run ways to be more clear and stronger.
100% Trust 0% understand 👍🏻
such a calm pilot. superb video
Great video and views.
Save that Hobbs time!
I would love to ride in a Vision jet. I have to try the Sr22. Thanks for sharing. Cool video and views
Bro an iPad mini is like 3-400… a not pad is about a buck maybe. I prefer iPad with FF but to each their own.
I live 30 miles north of Birmingham in the UK. What a lovely name for and airstrip. Cool video , Love the shirt too. Our airfields here always have seem to have crappy names but they are cool. 🤗
Yeah... Maybe stick to a regular notepad. The way you struggled to write at that awkward angle, and had to remember what he said while still listening, making it take longer. If you just had a notepad on your knee you'd be able to keep up with the controller.
iPad kneeboard maybe with foreflight?
I used to be an aircraft mechanic at Auburn University.
New to your channel. Maybe you answer this in another video… but do you fly single pilot 135 with that Cirrus?
Nope, just a family airplane
I get the "gimme a break" part of it but I do like the Captain was reinforcing the aspect of "Having centerline pride" when taxiing. My instructors busted my butt about that too and it's second nature now.
How does maintenance on the road work? Don't they need to log it in one of the aircraft log books? Do you just keep those with you all the time?
Maintenance shops will just give you a sticker to add to the log books with all the necessary info. You never want to store log books in the airplane longterm.
@golfcoastpilot Thank you for the response! Great channel! I'm excited to watch more of your sr22 content
300 hour private pilot with tail wheel endorsement. Completed written and 35 hours into my instrument training. Just bought a cirrus with my brother. Looking forward to more cross country flights.
Congrats on the Cirrus! They are XC Machines!
Nice retrospective! I’ve really grown to love your channel this year. Keep it up.
That is where I got my pilot license. My instructors were Tom Miller and Ernie Porter. I got them in the late 90s. I wish I knew what they were doing now.
Its norm 2 white 2 red for perfect glide slope right? Or is it 1 red 1 white at that airport?
That tail is dangerous. I wouldn't buy that thing, not even crazy! That tail has been proven to not withstand very well the aerodynamic forces. With IMC or worse is a catastrophic structural failure waiting to happen.
You have no idea what you are talking about do you?
Thumbnail says “failiure”
I lost full Alternator which resulted in loss of AC, radio 1, flaps and trim capability (I landed no flaps immediately since they were lost). Be mindful of the differences in case it happens again. CAPS placard should be removed for flight. Good job overall.
You lost both 1 and 2?
@ Just 1, but 2 probably would have failed had I not landed 10-15 min later.
Two white lights means you’re too high! 😂
Just waiting for an AU flight student to have a mishap close to my house. They’re always buzzing those Skyhawk 172’s over my house. They use 7A3 for training.
Do you recall what the fuel burn was cruising along at 3,000 feet msl and indicating 230 knots?
Aren’t you supposed to have that caps cover off your whole time youre in the plane?
Just “pin removed”
I see the fence up from where they tore down the old terminal. Great walk through. 👍
Them legs are a bit hairy, my man. Especially in that sunlight.
When ALT1 failed, I would have diverted to the nearest airport for repair rather than fly 2.5hrs with an unknown electrical fault.
I mean it’s what the POH says… and it’s entirely daytime VMC
@@jvke.p The POH is a legal minimum. ALT1 is a gear-driven alternator. If you don't know how or why it failed, then your next question should be "what's going to fail next?" Stop the holes of the swiss cheese from lining up. There are at least two documented mechanical failures of ALT1 that led to a crack in the engine case, and one of them (N19BV) led to a CAPS pull after the engine failed to due to oil loss and the pilot was seriously injured. If I am 1hr from home and 2.5hr from a destination that I have never flown to before, then I am at a minimum returning home.
Definitely a fair point, I respect your ADM. I will continue to do what Cirrus advices as they are the experts!
Moreover, the 19BV failure was the result of a maintenance error! Not saying it couldn’t happen to again, but definitely a stretch!
Love the video. Gorgeous SR22. Not sure I personally agree with leaving the caps cover fully on but your the PIC. Keep up the great editing.
Save yourself the trouble of always having to refill oxygen tanks and get an oxygen concentrator. I have the Inogen one G5 and I love it.
Great idea! Thanks!!
