hell, i'd give $20 in the 80s if i saw this on tv. I don't see Justing Bleeber or the Swift Tayler doing anything like this. Crosby, still,l nash & young, the traveling willburries, the honnydrippers, the Eagles and halen! you had a damn good era of music.
As someone who was in attendance, TV didn’t do Sammy or the live crowd justice. To say that stadium was electric was a huge understatement. That place was almost asleep from all the country acts of the day. And then the lighting bolt known as Sammy struck
Thanks for posting. I got a bunch of Concert footage on my Channel, including Sammy Hagar, Ozzy, Def Leppard, Journey, Queensryche, Stryper, etc. I'm doing a series called "Behind the Barricade". Some behind the scenes & backstage stuff as well 👍🏼🤘🏽🤙🏽
I remember during live aid the American version had to have a TV announcer just like this. The Wembly stadium version left it alone and let the music do the talking. Can't understand it.
I watched this live. When they cut back to Brenda Lee after Sammy said Tractor pullin; MF'rs,,, the look of utter shock was about the funniest thing i've ever seen. I hate they cut to a commercial right when Eddie cut loose on his solo but Sammy's performance was by far the highlight of the event!!
Lone Justice was on next, and they never forgave Sammy for cursing and having them pull the plug. They were supposed to knock the world on their ass, but they never did anything.
I didn't know Sammy Hagar rocked like this. Im 29, i wasnt alive then. I was always under the impression that he was just average, I'm happy that I now understand. Sammy is a rockin machine. Legend.
He was known in my generation as a top-level and by some, the best solo concert performer in hard rock. People used to always say they knew nothing about him until a friend took them to a concert & they came out amazed, including myself at one point. Three Lock Box tour & VOA tour were Sammy at his peak. You can find the Three Lock Box MTV concert, just search. Sammy worked his way up the ladder, rung by rung. He played in cities who didn't play many of his songs. He earned his stripes.
Saw Sammy interviewing Willie on axe tv and this performance came up in conversation and Sammy remembered it very well cause he was scolded very firmly for saying fuck on stage and was promptly told he would not be ask to return to another farm aid lol , so he told will now I finally after all these years have the chance to apologize to you ! You can only guess willies response , frigin hilarious !
I still get as pissed as when I watched this live. The biggest attraction of this event at least for everyone I knew was EVH and Sammy and they cut away to commercial. As Fred Sandford would say "You Big Dummy"
Eddie was a gigantic fan of Sammy way back when Montrose did their first two albums with him. Sammy was the greatest thing to ever happen to Eddie Van Halen. You are welcome. 🐸
These were very promising times. YOUNG 30 year old Eddie about to create one of the best records ever pushed out in 1986 All songs in the key of C Major.
That's how you rock. Play the fuck out of some shit, have a great time doing it, go out and get laid! RIP Eddie. F***! I can't stop looking at that cigarette...
Sammy's cussing is on live tv and may have gotten them fined. They had no way of bleeping him!lol But I remember watching this live! He was one of my favs starting with Montrose and still is!
I still listen to Montrose with Sammy !! Sammy even covered a few of their songs when he first started on his own !! You have to agree that Sammy help make Ronnie and Ronnie help Sammy likewise !!
a motherfucking legend. name one contemporary frontman that even comes close to Sammy's energy and talent? ....Well, and Eddie is a pretty good guitar player too, so I've heard ;)
Nothing quite like Bill "The Electric" Church looking like a giant with that tiny Steinberger bass. He was always badass with it in concert, especially on "One Way to Rock" and "Bad Motor Scooter."
They cut the feed early because Sammy Hagar was cursing on live television back then they weren't allowed to do that. I watch this live on TV when I was a kid. And I was so pissed that they ended Eddie's performance like that.
Why doesn't the FCC allow words like the f-word on broadcast TV? Even radio stations have to play butchered songs that have language in them. But, it's allowed in movies that are played in theaters and on pay movie channels like HBO, Cinemax, etc.?
Before Sammy, the only people you saw using those headset mics was keyboardists and drummers, which I think is what they were designed for, originally (acutally, they were designed for television technicians, cameramen, directors etc to communicate). Sammy was the first guy in any genre who I saw wearing out at the front of the stage so he could do stuff with his hands besides holding a mic or worry about getting back to the mic stand in time for the next verse.
@@ColtraneTaylor wait, you expected government to care about the people? We just need DC to leave us all alone and we'll do fine, like we did for the first 200 years
Farm Aid is held every year. America still cares to an extent. It just doesn't get on the TV like it did when there were only 4 channels for most people.
It seems 1990's and up singers get more press nowadays but older singers and deceased singers like MJ and EVH get mentioned every now and then. 80's was the better decade for music. 90's and 2000's sucks.
Sammy's always played a lot of different guitars. I remember seeing him play a Roland G-303 guitar on the 3 Lock Box tour, without the synth module that went with it.
6:54 ...Probably not what you want to call an audience full of Midwesterners and country music fans.😂
I saw him in 1982 opening for ZZTOP.

This was so good. What? What a heck of a relationship to begin with, but it just shows you what a star sammy already was

One of the top five rock vocalists ever IMHO.
his solo stuff was better than the bubblegum VH stuff he did

I know they did Wild Thing, (I was there) never been able to find it.

"This is for all you tractor pulling mutherfuckers"

Eddie Van Halen was the best thing that ever happened to Sammy Hagar...

If it keeps flooding it’s in the needle assembly Need a full new carb kit. Welsh plugs and all.
Lol apparently he got in trouble for calling them tractor pullin mofos 😂

Yes Sammy there's only one way to rock. And you ain't it!!!!🖕🤢🤮
This is a song for all you tractor pullin mother fuckers

The cigarettes didn’t cause his death. He stopped smoking many years before he passed away and didn’t die from cancer. Just for the record. -Mrs.$
What point in the video does he announce his VH gig?
12:52 Funny !!
Wonder if Sammy's band knew this was their last concert with him.
Yes, they were. He even gave each a big bonus after this show. Read it on 'Red'.
Nope 😅😅😅

80s dance
In case anyone wonders what 80’s TV was like....this was it. Going to commercial break while freaking EVH is playing Eruption. 🤦🏻♂️
We be right back you hear.. Yeah hah.. They were so out of place for this but they donated their time to raise money.

Yes kids, there was a time when America cared about Americans.

Whoa, Sammy playing something other than a Gibson? Dean made some great stuff back in the day. Jackson, too.
Sammy's always played a lot of different guitars. I remember seeing him play a Roland G-303 guitar on the 3 Lock Box tour, without the synth module that went with it.
I love how Eddie told that bass player to get the fuck out here.
Truth be told, if you noticed, Eddie was hard wired to the amp, not using a wireless transmitter. I think he was giving himself some slack.
Back then This was the First "reveal" Of Van Halen's New Vocalist (Post Roth)
bruh.. i heard there was more to this gig after this song.. where eddie and sammy played a few more songs... im DYING to find them..
Every video / song ive seen ends at this song :(
@@FailingForFun dude search “Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen Farm Aid 1985 Rock and roll.” They play rock and roll by Led Zeppelin
@@FailingForFun Don’t know if they’re on UA-cam or not. But, as someone who was there, I can tell you they also played Purple Haze.
Hagar's comment at about the 6:54 mark is why he was never invited back to Farm Aid.
Well Van Halen become so big. And they cut Eddie solo off for a break. But he wasnt using MF as a bad context.
