2003-2010 Porsche Cayenne Android Head Unit Installation Part 1
Переглядів 76 тис.6 років тому
This video is meant to go hand-in-hand with the instructional thread I am making at rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-955-957-2003-2010/1099819-955-cayenne-and-996-android-head-unit-installation-tutorials.html#post15315826
Wow, where do i start...not as easy as plug and play, I bought 2 + 64g android unit, then was told i needed fiber optic decoder, got that, but still can't get canbus to power. If there's anyone still following this post, I'd love to hear any ideas. I've been emailing Chinese seller, sent pics but no luck. Everything they recommend I've already tried. I took to a couple local audio install places and they laughed and wouldn't touch it. I've got about 10 days to figure it out or sending back for refund. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm in NC and don't mind a road trip. Thanks in Advance.

Great video, doing the install and for some reason my xtrons harness doesn’t have a blue antenna wire 😮
Honestly I wouldn't count on the radio working at all even with proper connections. Unfortunate but hey at least you will hear fewer commercials.
@@UltF1true… I wired my antenna to the blue/white wire for the amplifier… the FM tuner is the only bad part to this head unit.
Where is Part 2?
Looks terrible 😣
Hey thanks for your super valuable contribution to the Porsche owner community.
I just did my 2009 cayenne S. Man I thought I’d have it out in a hour and it took me almost 3 but bc of this video you saved me from breaking anything. One thing though them metal clips around the sunroof I got off by using a pocket screw driver and doing to from the inside of the truck.
Yes since making the video I've seen a great method of pushing them off from above. I wish I had known there were better ways! Thanks for sharing yours.
Thanks for this the other video didn't explain this as mine was stuck at the last bit 👌
With my MOST box wired to constant power my battery keeps dying. I wired it to accessory and now the speakers aren’t working. Any input?
Did you watch these two videos yet? photos.app.goo.gl/zeEWkQJHqs25tLz1A

Can tell me where you purchased the antenna adapter or a link to it
Honestly, best advice is to pretend like AM/FM radio no longer exists if you proceed with an Android head unit. I was optimistic and wasted a bunch of time but I never achieved decent reception.

Hi .. I'm at this point myself with my 2008 Cayenne GTS. My alcantara in the back is sagging. So, can the sagging alcantara in the back just be spray re-glued and then roller down with a foam roller? Thanks!
It's a messy process the old flaky glue/foam underneath gets all over everything. If upholstery screws hold it up there tight enough just go with that and don't bother. If you really want to reglue it you'll have to use a great spiderman-web-like headliner glue such as permatex makes. Some glues say "headliner" in the uses section like gorilla glue but it is unlikely to hold. Afterwards it likely won't look factory in some spots upon close inspection. Headliner fabrics are ideally replaced, not re-glued. Maybe your decision is whether you prefer the look of ten to thirty headliner screws or no screws but some imperfections after 6 to 14 hours of effort to reglue.
It can't really be resprayed while still in the car. The Alcantara wraps around the sides. I can makes a Google photos folder with some videos I made of my reglue adventure if you want
Great video. I had the same problem. I used "liquid nails heavy duty construction adhesive" to fix mine and didn't need to get the broken clips. I put a suitcase up against it for a day to cement it into place.
Thanks for sharing. I hope your fix holds up! I ended up doing this after multiple glue attempts failed on me in the Texas heat.
Thank you very helpful
May be a dumb question, but I haven't seen much DIY info on headliner repair: if you're re-gluing the same material, why remove the whole headliner? Why not carefully peel and re-glue, even if you have to make some cuts at the edges where material probably folds up into the trim?
Not a dumb question! Once you get to the point where you decide to tackle headliner reglue or replacement the headliner will just keep coming off once you start. The edge of rotten glue is probably not limited to where you currently think it is due to visual sagging. The old, crumbled glue/foam is way more of a mess than a Nature's Valley granola bar and it sticks like nobody's business to the good side of the headliner. It's hard enough trying to glue on level ground, I can't imagine trying it upside down. You'll need legit headliner glue that shoots Spiderman web looking glue like Permatex and it's super messy and sticky if you miss (and a nightmare if you get a bunch on the good side). Don't get gorilla brand headliner glue... it sucks I know from experience. I recorded a bunch of videos of the cleaning and reglue and reattempt after first attempt failed but I didn't spend the time to edit them into a UA-cam. If you're pretty sure you want to proceed let me know and I'll find them and throw them in a shared Google drive folder for you to look through and see some stuff and lessons learned. Something I got wrong making this video is the sunroof clips part. Push down all sunroof clips from above the car looking down, and don't try to disconnect them from in between headliner and ceiling like I did in this video.
Yoo do I need a wiring harness for mines if it’s just the raidio
Yes a wiring harness is required
I'm two days in with my xtron install and still have no sound, super frustrated! everything else works but no sound. I really need help but cant get anything from xtron
Usually that means the MOST decoder is wired incorrectly or you unplugged part of the MOST circuit. Did you unplug the CD changer? @@David-mf1bl do not leave the old GPS CD device unplugged unless you put in an MOST fiberoptic loop bypass. Maybe sure your grounds (MOST ground wire, canbus decoder ground wire, head unit harness ground wire) are all connected to each other or you may end up with a floating ground. Thank you so much for your reply and the videos.. Everything is perfect now. Except I don't have sound. I order a optical fiber loop to by-pass the cd changer. Do you had that problem too?
@@m4rcolm no sound makes me think the MOST is wired incorrectly; maybe not properly grounded. The fiber loop is only needed if you remove the CD changer from the circuit.
It is also possible your MOST decoder is bad but that wouldn't be my immediate conclusion. I think re-watch the videos and carefully trace your connections again. Happy to help however I can.
Thank you!
Where is part 2
See the comments on this video I linked to other videos in made that should help. Let me know if you still have questions after that
Where did you buy the material? Any link .. I have alcantara seem like I can't match the color or where to buy them
I ended up re-using the existing material. It wasn't my favorite car repair ever but it was passable. Make sure you use real headliner glue like Permatex 27828. Don't use gorilla glue even though it mentions "headliner" in the description. I think it would be very difficult to use new alcantara and stretch it to fit the headliner mold, but maybe there are decent resources that teach you how to do it easily.
@@UltF1 that's what I was thinking about reused the factory material seen I can't match it
Where the heck is part 2????
photos.app.goo.gl/zeEWkQJHqs25tLz1A
nicely done!
Hey, i struggled too. Do you know the part number for those front clips? Thanks
I don't believe you can buy them separately. My best advice is to search eBay for the cheapest head console where you can see in photos that their clips are unbent. Might be able to find one around $30 and you could even resell the console after removing its clips and transferring them to yours.
Dude! Look at these views

@@UltF1 I have a 2019 and a 2001 (C7 & C5). The C5 was normally my daily driver when I didn't have to haul crap around. When I needed to haul stuff, I use to use my 79 El Camino. That thing got way worse gas mileage that the Cayenne does but then it had a 500hp stroker-motor in it. I could only run super unleaded in it and I had to use octane booster in every tank. It got about 8-miles to the gallon and if you put the fat wrinklies on the back, it would try and lift the front end off the ground. The Cayenne is going to replace the El Camino. When I think about how much money I dumped into that thing, I could have bought a house. 😅 I've got videos on my channel of me driving the crap out of that car, as well as me in the C5 getting my need for speed at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. If you need the metal clips you can order part 000-043-207-18 for left or right piece or 000-043-207-17 for center piece from pelican parts. If you lost or broke the larger plastic pieces maybe you could use "standoff spacer screws" or ask on rennlist or renntech websites in the Cayenne forum if anyone has 3D printed replacements. The big plastic pieces are part of the seat back assembly =/ hope that helps

Fantastic video. Thank you for posting. I just followed it this morning to remove my headliner. Is there any special tool you used to remove the orange foam before applying new glue and fabric?
Glad you found it helpful. Spoiler alert: the glue sucks. I can prob edit and post a video today of everything I did to clean and reglue it. I suggest attaching a plastic cling film or even just painters tape to the fabric side before removing old glue because it's a MESS when it gets on fabric side...
So helpful even I could pull my headliner down to look for a pano roof water drip...found where the water was coming in but unfortunately I have no idea how to fix it since it’s not the hose as expected haha. Nice job
Take a video and send it to me or post it on rennlist and we can help you figure it out. Glad you found the video helpful
dsfhsdafhs oh man I already put it back together when I didn’t find the ripped drain hose I was expecting. Your video made it that easy. I didn’t take the back headliner down- just around the front of the pano roof and used the hose on it. Let me grab the photos of what I DID take while it was open. I believe the leak is coming from the roof rails even tho that’s the first thing I checked, sealed, and tightened last year....but upon checking today ALL the screws were loose again...so that’s the next part I’ll tear into. It’s so much water....making a big ass mess
@@michiganmilkyway5130 do you hear sloshing water when you make a turn? Have you cleared bottom drains? Is the water on the headliner or at the floorboard? Did you try pouring water into the hose to be sure it's not the hose?
dsfhsdafhs no sloshing. I take my cayenne off road a lot for my job haha. A lot is an understatement so I clean the drains a TON! Even the one in the drivers footwell. Did the water test today. Where can I send u the leak pic?
dsfhsdafhs oh yea and when I water test it I don’t get a stream on the left side behind the tire-but can feed a wire thru it. Most likely bc everything is going inside haha. Rt side stream is fine.

Hello! I'm sorry but I don't understand your question.
@@UltF1 like can you fit a 2020 cayenne steering wheel on a 2010 model?
@@umbertovanstaden2651 no I don't think it is possible to use a 958 or 9Y0 steering wheel on a 955/957 Cayenne. I just did some quick forum searches for you. Other people have asked but there are no encouraging answers. :-(
@@UltF1 oh damn well thank you my friend I really do appreciate, you do have some awesome videos.
The 958.1 from 2011 can be fitted with a new steering (2017). But you will need to replace the steering column control unit along as the new steering communicates with LIN bus 2.0, were else the old one uses LIN bus 1.2. Did it on mine, its on my channel. Same goes for Cayman 987.1 to a PDK steering.
I also need to the Part 2

I think because I shot the video as one continuous take and didn't want to do any editing. In other words, laziness. It hasn't fallen since that day, though!
Hi, loved the video. Was wondering if you had a chance to complete the second part. I also followed the rennlist videos but you mentioned you had a set back related to the back up camera pop up. Did you manage to get it fixed. Also I wanted to check if any of the following things are working for you. 1) compass 2) stereo surround with original bose amp 3) dash display for music/radio info 4) original TPMS Would love to hear from you. I have the head unit with me, just couldn't find a confirmed information regarding the points I highlighted above.
Hey thanks for the comment! Instead of finishing part 2 I posted more of my videos as replies to other comments on this video. Let me know if you can't find what you need and have further questions on the install. I suggest reading all comments on this vid because I made a mistake and some people broke the screw holes on their top AC vent where I mounted the GPS. I can confirm that the factory compass won't work. The others I'm not certain sorry but the speakers sound good with original Bose amp! My 06 doesn't give dash display but I'm not sure if 2nd generation (2008-2010) did.
Thanks for your quick response. The 09/10 model has a different instrument cluster center display. Not the orange back-lit lcd one. It shows tons of information including what track or CD you are playing. What more important to me is the pop-up camera function. I'll take a look at the comments. A lot going on in this post 😁

Hi again, Was just about to start my installation and I noticed that my PCM looks so much different than the majority of the posts on renlist. My pcm 3.0 looks like this. drive.google.com/file/d/17dV5TxubQQ9jF-Z6nVG0UBz1ccsDIXca/view?usp=drivesdk Main concern I have are the antenna connectors now. From the image, I suppose the black and the blue one are for GPS and radio. But what is the yellow one on the right? That doesn't look like a fakra. Could it be for the Aux, ipod and USB connection under the arm rest? Also regarding the camera Blue wire from the factory harness, I basically see Two blue wires. Like in the picture below. drive.google.com/file/d/17eZL8c5EBAxhvkB6uzr46mFNgPJFwwCE/view?usp=drivesdk Any idea which one would that be? Appreciate your help.
That's about the best mechanical fix you can make. Did you fix or replace the lower Hook Brackets at the bottom? Generally they get broken when the seat back breaks loose at the top, flops down and snap! I have an 06 that I re-glued several years back but one clip on each seat has released again. I had one broke lower clip, JB weld fixed that better than new. Great you found Black bolts to match. I have tan seat backs. Three Main causes for release are: 1) Heat. 2) When the second row seats are down the front seat backs crush between them when the seat is moved back for a taller drive. 3) When backing the Cayenne and you place your hand on the passage seat back looking over your shoulder... ie: backing a trailer.. what has happened to me. This will be my next re-fix like you performed... great job, thanks for posting.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. My bottom clips broke but I didn't do anything down there in this final fix. The car has enough little issues so I'm glad this is no longer one.

@@carolyngargano8781 Maybe you can plasti-dip the top of any color of bolt or carefully brush a dab of color-matched paint. I hope you fix it to your satisfaction! My first attempts to re-glue were increasingly frustrating as they failed again
Hi, thanks for the post. How did you manage to get all the cables in and fit the stereo in? Since my hand can not reach behind the stereo after its in its space, i cannot seem to remove the cables from the way. They get stuck between the back of the stereo and the wall of the stereo space (case) and the stereo does not go in all the way. The front face of the radio is always 1 cm front of the air condition and the other dash board controls.
I had the same issue so I made my jumpers fairly long, used a few strategically placed zipties to keep the cables organized, and I found some empty space up and to the right that I could lift the big components into before pushing the radio in. Hope this helps!
Where second part?
