My First Ever DIY Pedal Board and First Partscaster Build
I have a baritone guitar with a 27inch length neck scale what strings should I use for drop C?
@@j.t.d.2586 drop C on a 27” scale length I’d get baritone 13-62 for that. And even with those it will be really tight and difficult to bend I think. My baritone I use in B standard as its highest tuning I wouldn’t entertain putting it in that tuning. Personally id use a fender scale 25.5” for drop C
Thanks for your HONEST review!! And quite frankly your really AWESOME noodling around on the guitar! This VERY SPECIFIC MODEL AND COLOR SCHEME is EXACTLY the same guitar that my son wants!!! So, again, THANK YOU for your honest review!!
My child overstates the 'DRAGON EYE' looks! I love it as well!!
No problem! I’m glad he loves it as much as I do!
I've always liked this series from Marshall. I know they're mostly "not good." And I've also struggled with Chorus as an effect as it always sounds like cheesey 80's vibes any time I try to use it. But when one of these popped up for $40 in my local shop I had to try it. I can't believe how tweakable it is. I can dial it so far down that it becomes more of a 'shimmer' effect without having to engage my Strymon El Capistan. I might have finally found a chorus pedal I love.
It’s so amazing I regret selling it massively 💔💔
It's cool but not a whammy dt
This is true 😂
More than 2 years ago. Where you at now?
Had numerous wrist problems and a recurring ganglion cist so unfortunately gotten a bit worse but I’m getting back up to it now
I extremely recommend the EMG EXG tone pot for their single coils. It boosts the high and low frequencies. It’s like having a pedal at your finger tips. I have the SV’s and love them. It’s like hotter vintage single coils if that’s not too much of an oxymoron. I find the SV’s brighter and the SA’s (which I also own) a little darker. The EMG DG 20 set has 3 SA’s and the EXG with a SPC (mid boost). Listen, it wouldn’t be my desert island guitar but EMG actives can be a great tool, or arrow in your quiver. I get the criticism. I personally do looping and experimental and thrash psychedelic hip hop beats and all the layering of different tracks with no 60 cycle hum stacking up on each track is very useful. Takes pedals and effects real well.

What guitar is that? Do you have any cheap recommendations? I live in Australia too and prices are bonkers here
The model number is the one on the video title so you’d be able to find it online on a retailer in your area if they stock them or on eBay. Cheap recommendations depending on what kind of style you want to play. I’d say see if you can go to your local guitar shop, and speak to the staff, when I got my first guitar they were really helpful in the shop. Hope this helps
Hello! Could you tell how high you have the pickups set?
Play the DAM guitar!!!!
Think I have 56 11 dadarrio drop C
Lovely ambient clean tones!
Thank you!
Picked one up for $250 USD. Sweet unit. And the flame maple top and playability are way beyond the price. Magic happening in Indonesia.
They’re a great guitar for the cash, their playability is insane
Thanks man!
Hello from germany great choice of guitar, I got the RGA42HPTQM-BIG and understand your fun
It’s great fun to play. Thanks for watching! And hello to Germany from the UK!
That discrepancy between the outputs of the neck and bridge on a Tele aides that squawky spanky middle position. Plus, the real reason (I think, could be wrong) but it’s that way because of the amount the string vibrates over the neck compared to the bridge.
Best review so far! It took some time until I finally found a video showing this pedal being used for playing chords (instead of just monophonic riffs). Thanks a lot, James!
Glad I could help!!
Don't be afraid to use more falsetto (if your pipes can handle it), you're doing more than well on those parts. Guitar should be much louder idd. Nice cover, boys
I passed the message on to the singer! Thanks for the comment and pleased you enjoyed it
You forgot to mention you’re using a schectre are you not or is it another guitar because schectre sounds good now matter what I have a question plzz answer I have a Jackson 22s dinky can that specific guitar handle drop c it doesn’t even sound good it’s not clear or anything it sounds really bad I want to give drop c a try but I can’t go out of standard or drop d without tuning issues
Nope I’m using a PRS in the video. It’s a shorter scale length. The only thing I maybe didn’t mention is the pickups in the guitar are a bulldog custom wound set of pickups. But the guitar actually has a shorter scale length than a Schecter or a jackson
I am fine with my drop d it’s nothing great but it’s good enough for me and I only own one guitar and would hate to ruin it you can technically play drop c stuff in drop d if you know you’re guitar
Trick for everyone with a stereo chorus pedal. As this pedal, boss ce-3, etc; if you want a vibrato effect, plug the cable only in the B output into the amp. There you go: a Vibrato pedal instantly. Cheers.
Defitneley 11s
Your sound is good, 💯 I bought the same guitar from Sweetwater!
Hello! I’m happy about your review with the clean tone. I’m picking up my new RGA42 in two weeks and look forward to it. Is it sustainable with the tuning? I’ve seen a few reviews on the axe and most are positive, but some dwell too much on the negative thoughts about it I think. Can’t wait to hold my new guitar. 😎🎸
For its price point it is an amazing instrument. It’s got no tuning or stability issues that I’ve seen. And is a great workhorse guitar! Hope you enjoy it!
It's a good guitar. It has a wizard neck. If you're used to playing a normal neck, it'll take some getting used to. I love mine. My channel has some videos of me playing it.
The neck dives when on the leg because of the location of the bottom body cut. It’s back too far.
Nice mate any chance of sharing the patch ?
The patch I believe was called bullet for my Valentine on the tone cloud on bias FX
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 ah right it could well have been mine 🤣
@@ItsBigJC Might have been :')
I can see why Les Paul would not allow them to put his name to it, the neck set angle is all wrong, which throws the bridge height to high to give the right string height and the tail piece is too close the bridge. You think after all the years that the sg has been made, Gibson would of resolved and perfected the design. The act of shifting the tail piece further away from bridge would help with nose dive issue. Other than that they sound great.
They could make them way better by making it a neck through. It would make it more stable
🤘🤘🔥🔥
Get a US Jackson with floyd rose and a nut custom made for the strings. It will stay in tune for DAYS!
I’ve now got a Chapman ML1 Pro Modern which is way more stable and I’m down playing 11s in drop C right now!
Obviously name it Smaug...
Not bad not bad, I’ve sold on the guitar now but a good shout
I'm buying that pedal after your video. What about your guitar?
Great! Enjoy it! What do you mean what about my guitar?
Why arent this pickups popular?I've heard so many of its demos and they are the best ones so far
Honestly I think it’s to do with online presence and marketing. Think about the bigger brands or ones who are trying to grow, they all have social media pages, they put the pickups in the hands of influencers who will help grow the brand. These pickups are better than I hoped for honestly they’re so good. They’re now in my Chapman ML1 Pro now and still sounding amazing
Nice.
Nice
Did you get your guitar set up for drop C?
I set it up and adjusted it all myself. I’ve now moved to a chapman ML1 pro Modern which is 25.5” scale length which makes it way more stable and comfy
Don’t do this with the wrong strings you will ruin you’re strings unfortunately you’re guitar is made for standard and drop d only unless you get different strings drop d seems to be fine you will pull you’re strings out of tune
Active emgs are synonymous for metal tones but that's the humbuckers not the single coil sa emgs. They can handle enough distortion for metal epically since their practicly noiseless no need for a gate with any of the active pickups . Playing srv with emg sa's yes you can get by but their not my pick for blues. If you lower them alot it works better for srv when playing through a tube amp like a 6l6 powered amp I find they drive the amp lots but not in a good way you'll have to use that eq in a totally different way . Even my ts9 tube screamer reacts very different with these in my strat . I've got a old ass set of emg sa golds from the late 70s with the oak backs I love them but they put out a really hot signal which is great for rock and amazing for country tones . If your after srv sounds go with a set of tex mex or I find the set of deluxe dive pickups I have do a great srv and any kind of rock really well
Thanks for your comment!! Yeah the single coil EMGs are pretty rare I think I’ve not seen many people use them and they were a little difficult to get a hold of but man they sound so sweet. I find using my line 6 helix floor now I can get any kind of tone out of them but they do all have a certain sound that I associate with active pickups. I know rabea is working on a set of new signature strat pickups with Bareknuckle pickups so I’m thinking that I’ll be selling the EMGs and getting a set of those
Great cover but why is the bass so damn loud? Turn guitar up and bass down - Jesus
Amen to that. I wasn’t in control as the sound engineer “did the sound” it might be where the person recording the video was sat. Glad you enjoyed!
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 good musicians and good cover. Hope you plan on seeing Volta on their current tour!
@@superwong6601 well now i know theyre touring we might be! thanks man!
nice
Thanks!
im struggling between getting this set vs the flat 52's...as far as im concerned the main difference is output. something about the 5k neck output paired with 7k bridge output on the 52's scare me but i prefer how the neck on the 52's are more "open". really struggling here
Hey thanks for the comment! the output shouldn't really be an issue. the neck also should be a couple K less than the neck in my opinion because of its position and the neck tones you want. you can also position it closer to the strings if needed to deal with any volume differences. for me i have those bare knuckles set just right for bridge and neck output and tones and the in-between tone (position 2) is a great sound with that blend. Hope this helps!
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 you're right, ill go for it and take some time setting the position up then
@@yourfriendlycynic glad i could help!
active pickups ?
Yes they’re active, they run on a 9 volt battery
Hi does need insert battery?
Yes it does. I have it in the back scratch plate
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 the battery how play it how long?
I’ve had mine in since I put the pickups in and they still work great but I’m sure they also work passive too so I’m not 100%
This is spectacular!!! Did you ever do tabs for it? (I can figure it out myself, but tab would be easier and faster.) Nice job!!!
Thanks! I didn’t end up tabbing it. I literally improvised it about 15 times and took the best one 😂
Hey what's the guitar you show at 6:55 ? It's really beautiful
That’s my Fender Partscaster. I got it free from a friend then upgraded the pickups, scratch plate and put some cool moon inlays on it
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 thanks for responding!
Best 3 single coils ive found...... 1. Wilde pickups 2. Emg 3. Lindy fralin
ive not heard of wilde pickups before. ill have to have a check!
Hey bro.. is that working if you use microphone is it have double voice? I want to buy this but i need to see the review first..
im not actually sure, but it should manipulate any kind of sound not gust guitar sound. although it is set up for guitar in terms of the way they've designed it to sound so running a voice through it might sound strange but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work
Sounds like the truss rod just needs adjusting the neck has too much relief, so every time you apply pressure on the neck the length of the string scale is fluctuating nothing wrong with a bit of relief to give the note abit of flare but deffo needs tightening
I'll try that, thanks man!
Bit of a weird one but my friend bought the same brand of guitar as your dad's and upon doing some rewiring work for him I discovered that the humbuckers were actually single coil pickups made to look like humbuckers, by the tone I'm assuming yours dads is the same I could be wrong though but deffo worth upgrading made a huge difference 🙂
Interesting! Next time I’m home I’ll take it to bits and have a look see. He doesn’t really play it any more so not really a point in putting money into it…
Sweet guitar and great playing i just bought one second hand in blue hasn't arrived yet cant wait
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the guitar 🥳
Nice guitar and great review ! Keep up the passion
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude any idea how far or bear should I keep them to the strings
Good question and short answer there’s no one size fits all. If I were you I’d sit with a screw driver with your amp and guitar and put them about halfway up. See how you like the sound. Then see what works best. Or look on a forum at the normal pickup to string height for a strat and set them there then tweak. It’s all about personal preference. I have the middle one a little lower than the others for 2 reasons. 1 it can get in the way if it’s too high and 2 when blending with a really hot bridge pickup, having the middle one a little further away when using both together should drop a little volume and mellow the sound. HAPPY TWEAKING!
@@jamesmcdonaldmusic1783 that's exactly what I did on the weekend. And I found perfection! Thanks mate... Oh and after that I tweaked my amp eq to bring out cleaner tones... Bliss!
Amazing! Glad I could help! Enjoy your guitar!
