How I Made This Construction Timelapse in Blender
An animation done for Huntsman Cancer Institute and Alvey Media Group that shows the construction of the Hospital Campus.
Definitely not perfect but a very fun and challenging project. Encompassing the modeling of the campus buildings using only visual reference. Then taking GIS terrain data and editing it inside of Gaea, before setting up the final animation inside of Blender.

Bukhansan - CGI Blender Environment
My only problem is that it looks like the building was built in a few hours (no night sky and the clouds are too slow) despite this everything else is amazing !
yep, we considered it but we were worried the flashing of day to night time might've been distracting for such a short timelapse. We opted for a more artistic depiction of the building appearing. Not a 100% realistic for sure!
Thank you for the breakdown, how many samples did you rendered? Did you use any temporal denoiser? Did you use the camera culling system in geoscatter?
I was wondering, do you take real life scales to make giant environnement like this ? When I do that I feel like it would be better on smaller scale, like a smaller model
Merci beaucoup pour cette excellente mise en pratique
Do you know how to get this over to a heightmap format for UE? TIFF - GEOTIFF - PNG - R16(RAW) Then i mean with the small micro displacement for cliffs and even smaller rocks/Slope rock cliffs/Slope gravel rocks/RiverBed Rocks/ and so on. But also with splatmaps/weightmaps/masks that can be used to import on the material layers of the landscape later in UE5 or Unity even. Point is that you no longer need a displacement map and tessellation in the engine, since it is already "baked" on the landscape.
Just export an obj or fbx mesh from your terrain creation software
So pretty
hey hi I'm facing onr issue while rendering my trees got smudge because of volumetric fog please help me to resolve this issue
Thank you very much for this video. An inspiring work indeed!
Hello sir can you give some closeup tree plz
can you tell me please where you render this? and how this is even possible that Blender VIEVPORT dosnt explode? I have rly Strong PC, but blender and Vievport easily kill him, sadly Same scene in Unreal Engine runs easily and smooth, tbh i Love blender - but ihave no idea what to do Unreal vs Blender thats the problem. Maybe any tips from you? Great video and great skill !!!
Amazing work keep going!!
Thank you! Will do!
Hi Maarten. I'm looking at buying the pack on your gumroad. I looked for contact info there to ask some pre-sales question, but I didn't see one. So here goes. 1) Will this pack still work in Blender 4.1? I don't see why it wouldn't, but I thought I'd ask. 2) Some of your bigger packs have different licenses. The pack linked above only has one. Can I use the meshes commercially with that license? 3) Are the only payment options credit card and Apple Pay? I didn't see a PayPal link, but perhaps I missed it. Thanks for your help. All the assets look great.
1. Yeah the pack should work in 4.1, most of the files are just image files and some objs (I havent heard anyone with issues yet) 2. Yeah its the full license 3. The pack is available on Gumroad and Artstation, im not sure what all the payment options are for those websites but if PayPal is not one of them I can sadly not add that payment option.
@@Maarten-Nauta Awesome. Thanks.
Fantastic
Very cool! Thank you for showing us how you did it, also the preparation process, with the references 👍🏻
Thank you for posting the finial work so we can see what the completed project is.

Garagefarm - they do not have SideFX Houdini. Hard pass
you are brilliant my dude
I see Windows, I leave.
Do a bunker instead then, or a tent. A ton of options that don’t involve a building with windows.

@@callisoncaffrey it’s just a bit of fun CC
Great job! at 16:31, you could select the whole road vertex group, create a new shape key, S Z 0 it (or loosely flatten it as per your liking), then G Z bring it back up/down a bit (could be mid value of your S Z), and then use the shape key to average it with the rest of the terrain. Loved the breakdown!
Thanks for the tip!
Amazing! how many samples?
around 180 i think
This is an amazing explanation! Thank you so much! You are incredible! Can’t wait to watch all your other vids! UA-cam sucks for demonetising your vid for having a drink on screen lmao what jokers
Bravo
At 20:00, you can first select all and then goto select and choose select boundary loop. Search the funtif not find.
Good job, nicely done 👍
AMAZING!
This will help me of refference in solving terrain stuff, its really the hard part for me, im actually building a tool in geometry nodes to make that kind of roads in a non destructive way, its comming together nicely but im not a GN god so its not perffect lol
Im really shocked by the music volume. It was totally fine in premiere. My apologies if it's sometimes hard to follow my commentary due to the volume.
Music is good anyway, don’t worry
wow
Garagefarm are truly MVP when its comes to customer support
Naughty naughty drinking apple juice
Thanks for making this breakdown, its very informatively entertaining!
Amazing ❤
I have some problems with the Box 18:47. When I turn it on from flat to Box it gets these wierd round stripes ? Can someone please help me I really have no clue🤷♂✌
So basically I´ve found the mistake. I scaled the Mountain to high and converted it into a mesh. I fixed it still a great Tutorial :)
So beautiful! Would you recommend investing in Gaea and GeoScatter? I'm following your tutorials and trying to learn with the free alternatives so far.
Keeeeennyyyyyy
Why my laptop can't handle such huge scenes although I have RTX 3070, 16 gb ram, and i7 12th gen? Is it the GPU, or the CPU, or me?
16gigs of ram is quite low for 3D
@@Maarten-Nauta Thanks! So do you think that if I upgrade only the RAM to 32gb then it should work fine after Allah's will?
I can just second what most of the people already said: so much value in this tutorial, filling a lot of gaps for people new to the whole environment topic. I struggle a bit with one thing though and I dont find it mentioned so far. When I try to rebuild the custom snow map out of normal z, I dont get all this normal information from the pbr normal maps, only from the object itself and the information from the displacement map in the material output. This seems logical to me. Yet it looks like you have all this info from the combined normals and bumps and I wonder where it comes from, when this separate XYZ is outside of the shader stream?
Hi, Awesome mountains! I'm looking to purchase these in the near future, I'm just wondering if the Icelandic ones are in the Lite version or if they only come with the full version. I only need the Icelandic ones...
Its a mix, so LITE version has some of everything.
@@Maarten-Nauta does it contain what's shown it the video? They're the ones I'm after, the rebirth inspired shot mainly. I don't mind getting the full pack but it will be a while longer than if I get the Lite.
thank you for the information, as someone who uses C4D and vray there is a lot of info that helped me make my landscapes that much more realistic especially when it comes to the gaea part
Are you dutch?
Ja, eigenlijk maar half, maar wel opgegroeid in Amersfoort!
How can I play this in slow motion? It’s super detailed!
Im afraid slow motion would expose the effect haha. Plus its only 24fps so it would be a slideshow ;)
bro i am going to buy your course if you have
The detail.... amazing!!!
incredible
finally decided to get your patreon!! It was so worth it
Thanks so much for the support! And I'm glad it was worth it :DDD
Awesome. How long did this take you man?
I wish I had more time but as its a client project there was a deadline. I spent a week and a half or so modeling the campus and the terrain based off of purely visual reference, no real schematics. Then another week and a half putting the whole animation together, rendering, compositing etc. Not a lot of time and there were a few 15 hour workdays near the end.
@@Maarten-Nauta Care telling how to get client project like these? Any advice? Was it an agency contacting you? Was it via social networks and such? I'm just curious how to get more client work.haha:)
Very cool! Will we also get a tutorial for this? 👀 Really interested about the building part.
Yeah ill do a breakdown of how I put this together.
@@Maarten-Nauta very cool. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
