WHEN YOU THINK EL GRAN SENOR BEAT SADDLERS WELLS. AND THE ONE IN 3RD PLACE SECRETO BEAT EL GRAN SENOR ON THE LINE IN THE EPSOM DERBY.
Pat got the blame for the Derby defeat , but as you can see he has the class. , but only just doing enough .
I think he deserved the blame too, Grenville Starkey got the blame for Dancing Brave and I think his was more understandable.
Good filly that ran in some top class races

Ma Biche was a good filly, and Habibti turned out to be a great sprinter 🏇👍
I was loosing that day,down to 20 quid in my pocket,thought sod it ifancied saddlers wells any way so I thought do the French horse in a rev,forecast walked out with over a grand ,not bad considering weekly wage was 45 pownd a week,
this generation was very special

Shareef Dancer's retirement after this race was perhaps the most egregious example of the "whisk them off to stud" policy that prevailed at the time. What arotten shame.
Yes, The 80's -90's period of British flat racing were, The horse has won a Classic/Top Group 1, get them off to stud. We missed out on too many top class horses running against one another!! 😕
Didnt retire was entered for ARC withdrawn on morning of race due to heavy going

I have been looking for this race for AGES! Thanks so much for posting. Tolomeo was a favourite of mine- huge horse- always so game but kept on finding one too good for him in Europe. This was his day in the sun.
