Windfree: Reverse Immelmann, sq loops, rolls. Wind 20+
Windfree can't do this! (wink wink)
Winds are far above prime so it pushes me out front more than I like.
I probably gave the wind more respect than I should have but "it lives to see a better day".
This Windfree is over 40 years old BTW. (maiden December 1983).
Sometimes here it looks to be tip stallish but it's not, it only tip stalls/snaps when I tell it/force it too.
2lbs 2 ounces, 99inches, only 540 sq inches, 18.15 to 1 aspect ratio
Cheers:

Le Fish: Powered Folk Should See This

Sailplanes on the slope Operate under a differing set of rules. It's literally a book to explain everything but: Rules 1,2 and 3 are the base essentials. Rule #1 At launch "do not" pull up but instead stay 2 degrees nose down and BION accelerate and climb. Note that I don't even bother to "throw it", just a little wrist flip and hold "2 degrees nose down" and climb out! (as above). Rule #2: The...

Last 5 min of 40 minutes of joy! You can't see it but I touched/brushed my left wingtip on landing which tipped me back to level and into the right wing hit on the knoll which... well you saw it. I meant to continue the sideslip and to slightly reduce my bank to land on the null that I hit the bottom of, so it also caught me with a right aileron input. A compounded Oops! lol I did catch down el...

What I was "trying to say" lol. Double flips should be initiated at no more than 20 degrees nose high. If you try to cheat to 45 Degrees nose high and then initiate the flips, you wind up flipping yourself into a downwind trajectory which screws up (takes away) the elevator authority for the second flip. Of course, the proper airspeed is "also key". Yours may be differing than mine (via set-up)...

20MPH winds, maybe skip to @1:30 as I was re-acquiring my visual and peripheral ques for this site. No sun so, no shadows showing the face features made it a figurative white cane read: avoiding brail lol. Though often obvious, Rudder action is "constantly active". Enjoy! Robert

Windfree and Light winds is no deterrent to having fun! The wind was dead on is why it was this good at 7mph, particularly in being able to climb that high. I'd still prefer 10-15 mph lol A Windfree is as pure and honest a flyer as it gets, there's no other way to put it! Maybe not the most exciting vid but when the wind is right for that chute, I'm on it. The larger chute used to have better lift, it has however flattened out into a great landing zone. I'll take it! Winds? Mmm 15-25 mph or thereabouts... Blowing! lol Just starting on the knife edge 360 turns, never thought it was possible before. Tried a knife edge falling spin but it keeps rolling out, working on it (if it's possible). Looks like it'll be a right wing down because here in trying a left 360 it rolled flat at 180. Something new! Gotta love Le Fish for what it can do! Cheers: Robert

This is my last vid on this Windfree for a while. It lacks a-bit of dihedral as compared to my other Windfree is about the only difference. This one just doesn't do what my other one does, done all I can with it barring major surgery, so I'll delegate it for Thermal flying of which It'll be just fine for. Giorgio: That's a very complicated subject to put to words in a comprehensible format. Let me think of how I'm going to do that. Your mechanical set-up on your aircraft will be different than mine so I can't just blurt out radio settings and expect the same or even acceptable results Thus my descript has to go far beyond just radio settings. I once wrote an article in our club newsletter on this subject and that's what it took "an article". Give me some time to think about how to convey a proper answer to what you are asking. I'm sorry but the subject is very deep in descript. Thinking: Robert

Hello Robert! Love this clip: it gives me lots of ideas to develop my skills and is very instructive. I once owned a second hand fish, but due to inexperience I lost him at the foot of the cliffs. What is the weight of yours, CG, lest in this case? Thanks for your info! And, please, do not stop posting!

    • @robertshaver4432
      @robertshaver4432 3 місяці тому

Weight is just over 1 1/2 lbs., CG is about 6" forward of the root trailing edge. The new Le fish is different than this one, it's faster but I've never seen them do double flips. Speaking of which: I just posted another video containing clips of flight #1 of this day (this was flight #2). Lots of double flips that I forgot to do in this vid lol. I would instead however recommend an AHI sailplane. It flies a-lot like Le Fish but maybe even better. It's a-bit expensive but so is Le Fish. I want an AHI because I believe it flies even better than Le Fish and I think it's tougher too. The old Le Fish (like this one) is a-bit fragile. Black foam wings means it's an older Le Fish, If you find one in the box let me know and I'll tell you how to toughen it up. I would buy another "black foam wings" Le Fish BUT to be honest... I'd prefer an AHI. Cheers: Robert

Yes I know there's no way that the fuselage flows will be laminar flow but, the late expansion or rearward thick point keeps the airflow properly "attached" for the critical length/portion the fuselage. The top ,bottom and side wings are all slightly toed in, the double box prevents trailing edge downwash as well as zero Leading edge upwash and that causes? Something wonderful to occur that can only be defined via wind tunnel testing! The glide slope achieved is "impossible". I'm completely befuddled. 🤔

Thank You! Yes miles of dunes here and every 100ft is different than the last 100'. I'm getting in what I can as I know I'll soon be moving away. I'm going to miss these dunes! Thanks Again! Cheers: Robert
