Plato's Radical Vision: How To Build a Society
This idea of a philosopher king has always interested me. I explored how different people thought about this throughout history and the ways in which different nations tried to implement it. We begin in Ancient Greece and weave our way throughout history until we get to the 20th century. A bit of a longer video so let me know if you guys like this style (with me talking mixed with pics/videos, music, captions). Trying to make the best videos of philosophy, history, and self-improvement I possibly can.

Carl Jung: The Archetypal Journey (Child, Hero, Warrior, King, Wise Man)
Переглядів 392 години тому
According to Jungian psychology, people inhabit stories and archetypes that correspond to different stages of life and psychological development. This pathway isn’t fixed, but there seems to be a general progression of lived archetypes. Hope someone finds this enjoyable/informative.

You often hear people talk about "escaping the matrix" in terms of gaining financial freedom. This is obviously super important, but there are other mental shifts you need to make to truly escape the matrix. Today we explore three different ways that people become locked into systems they don't feel in control of and the ways in which it may be possible to break free.
I Meditated 2 Hours Everyday: Something Strange Happened
Переглядів 59919 годин тому
On my journey of self improvement I have dabbled with meditation in the past but nothing anything like this. My roommate challenged me to try this out and I wanted to see if it was even possible. It turned out to be even harder than I expected, but I came away with a bunch of valuable lessons. Nietzsche is not a nihilism
in what way did you anchor your practice in your own mortality? You simply thought about it or you imagined certain things, or...??
1. I imagined the world without me. I saw that my family and friends were distraught, but the entire world still went on. I think we often feel like the center of the world, combine that with a deep sense of duty, it’s a lot of pressure sometimes… this helped. 2. I thought of non existence. Everything I do everyday that feels mundane I will no longer do, and thus that I should savor all these days I still have - make every day, breath, class, lunch, random interaction count. It’s all meaningful in the context of death.
First this is not nearly every Philosophy. Also, Alchemy is NOT a philosophy.
@@PhokenKuul what is it then?
@@maxdepthpodcast Alchemy was a system of techniques that were used to attempt to control and manipulate the physical world in order to attain certain unattainable goals such as eternal life, coming back from the dead and transmutation of base metals into precious metals. Philosophy is the study of fundamental concepts such as knowledge, ethics, or existence. If you wish to lump in alchemy based then you'd need to add in physics and psychology.
@@PhokenKuul I was thinking about the non physical alchemy that i think the acts you mention were an embodied form of, and I was defining philosophy more as an overall system of thought than thoughts on a particular topic. Using these definitions do you think alchemy counts as a philosophy? Like “being kind to people is a good life philosophy” and “self exploration and searching for my purest soul is a good philosophy.” I am definitely over discounting the actually pre-chemistry alchemy.
@@maxdepthpodcast I dunno man, do you have some evidence or reputable source expounding spiritual alchemy? Because I suspect it's an apocryphal invention of the late modern occultists. Philosophy comes from Greek words, philos - love and sophia - wisdom, therefore love of wisdom. It is generally understood to be the systematic study of questions about knowledge, reality, ethics, aesthetics and politics. Whereas "a philosophy" is a way of saying, more or less, the way that one believes a person should live their life, the principles and ideologies to base one's life on. Assuming that there is such a thing as spiritual alchemy then according to the latter you could call it a philosophy. But your video stills mentions concepts such as utilitarianism and existentialism, which are more like the former being systems by which to examine questions of ethics and reality respectively.
thank you

Why do you think that whatever God is, hasn't changed since the last records of God's interference occurred?
@@myfte 1. They talk about God being eternal and unchanging in lots of religious traditions. 2. If you talk about “Spinoza’s God” ie. Nature, then God is constantly changing. 3. When do you consider the last time God “interfered”? 4. If you are asking me what I think… I think we are all splinters of God (the monotheistic perspective of the Upanishads) and so we try to build the world in a way that is consistent with our knowledge of what we think the highest power would see fit.
@@maxdepthpodcast I don't know what God is meant to be, I wanted to understand why you agree that science replaced God.
@@myfteWell there are two views, that God is a comfort mechanism and that God is a meaning mechanism. Comfort in having an explanation for the strange world we live in, meaning is an understanding of why we live. (This is my interpretation btw). Science replaced God in many of the ways we used to use God as a way to explain the deeper questions: Evolution, astrophysics, neuroscience.
@@maxdepthpodcast I see where you are coming from. But God could also be a child playing with a toy, and we are just a simulation that God is currently toying with. We can outright say science replaced God if we start with the idea that God is limited to just an idea in our mind.

Really like the content and you have an interesting perspective! I would suggest looking into Ian McGilchrist’s book «the matter with things», and also Itzak Benthov’s «stalking the wild pendulum» for an interesting handholding experience from just thinking abstractly to going deeper into mysticism and real direct experience from reality
